Review The Devonshire Hotel - Grassington

'The All Creatures Great and Small pub' Just had a lovely family meal. Very tasty pies and great value pulled pork burger. Eton mess was given a 10/10 by our daughter. It was really busy with only 3 staff but they worked so hard and were polite and courteous throughout. I would thoroughly recommend but book ahead as we did online. Very easy process. Spot on!!

Lovely old Inn situated right in the centre of Grassington. We only stopped for a drink on a hot day whilst walking in the area. Nice seating inside and outside. The bar service was okay, not super friendly but then I guess they have been really busy with the recent James Herriot filming. The coffee came quickly and politely served. Prices are a bit on the steep side, 2 lime and sodas, 1 coke and a coffee over £12 but could have been worse. I'd still stop here again, we've been visiting Grassington for decades and love the place for the atmosphere and the beautiful walks and stunning landscape.

Just had a fantastic meal at The Devonshire this evening. 6 of us had dinner together for a bit of a family reunion. Portion sizes are large enough to satisfy the hungriest hiker, but the quality of the food doesn’t suffer for that. The chips are good enough in their own right to deserve a mention, in terms of both flavour and texture, even though they were “just” an accompaniment to the baby back ribs. The back ribs - pictured - really are not for the faint-hearted, as the menu suggests, and were plentiful enough that the two of us who ordered them needed help finishing from other members of the party. The halloumi starter is delicious, with good quality halloumi cooked to perfection and served with flavoursome tomatoes and basil oil. The duck breast main looked and tasted fantastic, and both risottos hit the spot for their respective recipients. The beef and dumplings also surpassed expectations, with a delicious, thick gravy that perfectly offset the tender dumplings. We rounded off the meal with some of the locally made Northern Bloc sorbet, and a cheeseboard with Harrogate Blue. Unusually for one of my reviews, given I’m coeliac and so usually speak to the availability of safe gluten free options, I’m only mentioning it as an afterthought. That’s because there are plenty of options, clearly marked on the menu, and front of house staff are knowledgeable and helpful enough that for the first time in ages, my dietary requirements didn’t feel especially onerous. I absolutely cannot fault The Devonshire. This may have been our first meal there, but we will most definitely be back.

Excellent! We had only ever been in the pub before but last weekend booked a room for the night to attend a wedding in Burnsall. We arrived at the Devonshire at 11am which was a few hours before check in but the staff were very friendly and helpful and we were able to leave our bags with them which were then waiting for us in our room when we got back that evening. The room was lovely and much bigger than I expected, and breakfast was delicious. The whole place just has a lovely atmosphere and we will definitely stay again, thank you!

We had Sunday lunch here, it was delicious. Our daughter's dietary requirements were catered for. The entrance and immediate area around the bar are wheelchair accessible, but the ladies toilets are up a few steps. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet at the carpark, a few minutes away.

The hotel was ideally located and had wonderful charm. The rooms were clean and bright and ours afforded us views of the main street which was entertaining but not too noisy. The restaurant is excellent and as a result, we ate our suppers there. The complimentary breakfast was much better than the usual hotel fare with a variety of items you could order. We are so glad we booked an extra night!

Absolutely fabulous in every way. Excellent service. Loved the English pub atmosphere and the 'Snug' was adorable. We had the Sunday roast which was a hearty, well cooked meal and utterly delicious 😋

Very good indeed! Quick, friendly, efficient service; excellent food - and lots of it. Very comfortable surroundings, inside and out, and famous as the Drovers from the telly too. If you're coming to see Darrowby, you can be sure of a very good meal.

Had a family get together on Sunday we booked and pre ordered our food. The staff were really good as two from the party couldn't attend and they were fine with cancel food. The food was really good we all enjoyed it the puddings were amazing and really good portion size. We will be back

First the good stuff: lovely room, comfy bed, nice bathroom. Dinner good value, obviously freshly prepared, decent and fairly priced wine. HOWEVER! Place seemed to be run by kids, didn’t see a grown up, ie someone over about 23, for the whole time. This led to some bizarre things, such as them taking a table reservation for dinner at 8pm, and then when we came down for a pre dinner drink, just before 8, being told by one of the kids that “sorry, but the kitchen closed at 8”!! Another kid intervened and got the kitchen to do dinner for us! There was a big sign up in the bar saying “sorry, cash only”. When I asked about paying our bill when checking out there was a big kids conference, followed by “ oh, we hadn’t thought about that”. The outcome was that I had to go to the one hole in the wall in Grassington and get cash out to pay a hotel and dinner bill! What if the auto bank had been out of order? Only hotel I’ve ever stayed in where the front door remained locked till at least 10 in the morning, had to knock on window to be let back in att 9.50 am, having had to ask to be let out at 9am....weird or what. We liked the place, honestly, but it needs a grown up presence and the application of a bit of common sense.

We have just returned from an overnight stay to celebrate our 20yr anniversary - we couldn't fault a thing! As our 7yr old asked us in the word of the tv programme 'four in a bed' ; would you stay again? The answer most definitely would be yes!! The staff albeit young were extremely helpful and super efficient, the food was amazing and the room was spotless! Would definitely recommend!

11 of us showed up without reservation at lunchtime - we were accommodated with no fuss and had great service! The staff ensured all the kids were seen to first and orders came out timely. The food portions were substantial and the quality amazing!!

I stayed over night and was shown my room which I felt was beautiful. It over looked the square but I was not really bothered about the busyness. It's a pub!!! Had a great night sleep, then went for breakfast. I was served by Ann who was very pleasant the full English breakfast was hot and a good choice of pastries and juices was included in the price. I found the staff pleasant and I would stay here again.

We stayed there last Friday the room over looked the village square. We were going to eat in the restaurant but the special on the black board had been sold out and it was very quite for a Friday evening so we walked across the road To Grassington house. The breakfast we had on Saturday was Lovely And well presented by very nice staff.

A lovely welcome from extremely friendly staff. We only had time for a quick drink, but could have happily stayed longer next to the roaring fire. We'll be back.

Been to the Devonshire before and had no problems, this time it was not as good/organised. Ordered 2 adults meals 2 children's meals drinks. When the kids meals arrived not as discussed at the bar literally bit of a burger in a bun, then two additional kids meals arrived, something to do with the till system not set up right??! then ours, there wasnt any vegetables or sides on any of the meals which i feel is a little odd had to send the bowl of wedges back as the bowl was dirty dried food stuck on side, had to ask where our drinks were, we were told they would bring them to our table. Pub wasn't busy it was mid/late afternoon, lovely place just needs a little shake up and tweaking in places.
