Review Ye Olde Windsor Castle - Great Bookham

Pretty standard chef and brewer pub. This is a very niche comment, but the Korean chicken starter was not as good as I've had in other chef and brewer pubs - it was missing the sauce and vegetables. It was literally just a skillet of chicken wings. That aside, the pub was fine. Not much of an atmosphere as there weren't many people there (so great if you like it quiet). Food was fine, nothing really to comment on. Service was fantastic, our waiter was charismatic and friendly and even gave us a free bottle of prosecco to celebrate my grand-in-laws wedding anniversary. Good menu, good service, good experience. We had vouchers so got a significant discount!

Mel, Alice and Emily was so attentive and we had a delicious meal. We will be back very soon. The manager Steve couldn’t have been more helpful and welcoming. 👍🏻💪🏻

What can I say? Absolutely fabulous little pub. I attended solo and was very impressed with the service I received. Personal preference, I wasn't a fan of the sauce that comes with the garlic mushrooms but other than that, delicious. The dishes that I ordered were both from the non gluten menu. I then ordered ice cream and the chef asked the waiter to check that I don't have an allergy to the gluten as the Eton mess contains gluten. Very speedy work, efficient and clearly know the standards of food hygiene, health and safety. I'm extremely impressed and felt very welcome in this place. 100% you should attend and enjoy :)

We only stopped there for a very welcome cuppa during a walk. It seemed pleasant enough with friendly staff. No complaints about my cappuccino either.

Friendly staff. Comfortable pub with no loud music. Tasty food. A wait for the food as they only had one chef although they are trying to recruit. Good atmosphere.

The Korean chicken wasn't what we were expecting, and as such, wasn't eaten. An offer of a replacement meal would've been better than the offer of a free dessert.

I cannot thank the staff enough for a lovely lunch with my old mum. I asked for a quiet corner and it was perfect. Food was great and reasonably priced and the staff were amazing. So polite, accommodating and smiley! It was great, thank you so much, made my life so much easier!! Wish we lived closer!

We moved into bookham on Saturday and on Sunday evening we decided to try this pub for a late dinner. The meal took about 30 minutes to arrive but was worth it. I had the gourmet sausages and mash. The sausages were absolutely beautiful. And the red wine jus which accompanied it was really really tasty. My husband has the steak and ale pie which was equally really good. Lovely pastry with lots of tender steak filling. The only gripe was the crumble was cold but was soon rectified. The pub is absolutely beautiful with lovely character. It's our new local so will be back many, many times :)

Just wanted to say thanks for a great lunch today celebrating my father's birthday; I was a bit nervous that the place was full of huge groups celebrating Christmas meals and was concerned about speed and diligence of service but everything was great, the food was excellent, lots of choice on the menu and service from our waitress was very good. Love the refurbishment too.

This pub was my local some 40 years ago. We decided to pop down for dinner yesterday as the sun was shining and fancied eating outside, we haven’t eaten here for a year or so as very disappointed with the food but was willing to give it another try. This wa s probably one of the first nights of the year that you could sit outside and it certainly needs a spring clean the tables are very rough and not that nice to have dinner on, the door to the bar was filthy everything needs upgrade. I ordered a steak, medium and it came out well done and very tough, the vegan burger looked awful I was told tasted of cardboard. We appreciate the food is not too expensive but you do expect a reasonable meal. We will go back for a drink but nothing else, thank goodness for the Plougn at Effingham and Grumpy Mole.

Awful service. Took 50 minutes to get a a few pots of onion rings. Everyone in the pub complaining about the wait and then the actual food when it arrived. No one seems to know what they are doing. They are so slow and awful customer service. Never again, rubbish. Food not nice either. Real shame as been going to this pub for over ten years. Who ever is running it now has ruined it. Will not be returning again.

I am a care worker and brought a client here this lunch time. I was very disappointed by my burnt jacket potato and the side salad wad dry and stale. Which is a shame as the staff were lovely. If I wasn't with a client I would have complained.

Glass with lipstick on. Toilets currently being painted so smells so much we left and ate dinner elsewhere.
