Review Angel And Harp - Great Dunmow

Dr Niki Hartney
Stopped with some girlfriends for dessert and tea, and it was lovely. We even wished we'd been hungry enough for dinner, but alas... Luca was particularly attentive and bubbly. We'll definitely return for a full meal. Thank you Luca.

Lovely pub. Great friendly service. Lovely beer. Food was good, however for me personally, the dippy drippy burger with added bacon sounded better than it tasted. Everything cooked to perfection. I loved the separate cheese sauce to dip in. However from what I could taste of it, I think it needed a bit more of that secret sauce. I know everyone else enjoyed the food and drinks.

Lovely pub, I haven't been for a number off years but popped in on a Friday night, around 7pm, for a couple of drinks. Very lively. Lovely outdoor space, good choice of drinks. Will return to try out the food, as was good on a previous visit and what I saw go past also looked delicious lol.

Only a brief stop here but staff were very pleasant. Food was good and food coming out of the kitchen looked very tasty as well. Traditional pub . Lovely garden with seating as well. Parking a bit tricky when busy.

Wonderful food so so nice it’s out of this world! Desserts I love! Staff so friendly and helpful. Quick service, clean and good environment and atmosphere. Highly recommend a much deserved 5/5 🙌👏

Had a great meal here with a friend. It was quite busy but it didn't seem to put a lengthy wait on being served or anything. A good drinks choice which included a few local 'ish' breweries. Food was very nice, couldn't fault it. Will visit again as there was plenty on the menu that looked good. Parking out back of pub, and when we left I noticed they have a big marquee set up for table covers (bit cold at the moment though!) I would recommend...!

We had a family party in the marquee last Saturday. Our choice of venue turned out to be an excellent one! Genty and her team looked after us so well and the food was delicious. Everyone had a great time! I would thoroughly recommend the Angel and Harp for a family celebration.

We have visited here many times, and the food has always been excellent. This time however the roast beef was tough and roast pork tenderloin was, anything but tender. Roast potatoes were hardly roasted. Veggies were lovely though. Bit disappointing.

I had the best Sparerips of my whole life. Very friendly staff....nice place. Will come again.

Probably the best place in Dunmow to eat. Good menu options, tasty food. A little expensive but you get what you pay for. Lovely outside sitting area as well as a quaint inside. Helpful staff.

Booking a table for 1730 hours on Friday, I thought it would be before the rush. How wrong can one be. I could not even get in the car park. Once the food ordered came, I could see why the place was so popular. Very varied menu as an equally extensive gluten fee selection. Could not quite finish the mixed grill even though I was hungry. Will be visiting again but maybe no Friday evening.

We have lived in Dunmow for 25 years + and have always visited this pub through its various ownerships. We had not been for a while, until after I had a life saving major heart operation last year and this was the first place we chose to go for breakfast when I came out of hospital. We have continued to go since then on a regular basis and it never fails to satisfy. We have always been served by Lorraine since the first day we went and she has been fantastic. Last weekend was a year since I had the operation and we chose to go back for a small family meal to celebrate the success of the day. Well what can I say, my wife had other ideas and with the help of Lorraine she organised a surprise gathering of family and friends in a cordoned off part of the marquee with buffet. What made it even more special was that they don't normally do a buffet on a Sunday as it is normally roast dinner only. After Lorraine explained to her manager the importance of the day she was more than happy to help make the day happen. For this I am really grateful, and despite not getting the steak dinner I thought I was having it was so much better. Thank you to everyone involved as I know the organisation for this on a day you would not normally do it would have been a challenge. We will continue to go for breakfast whenever we can and hope that Lorraine is always there.

So, we happened to be in the area and arrived ravenous, early on a Sunday evening in a boiling hot a September's night. After a a couple of swift cooling halves of Lager we ordered one of the best beef roast dinners I have eaten in a while. Large Yorkshire, loads of veg of the day, crispy outer fluffy inside roasties, bathed in delicious gravy. Nice thick slice of tender beef went down very nicely indeed, especially with some added cauliflower cheese.. This topped off with an ice cold drink, a glass ofred and then a last minute coffee and complimentary biscuit, proved to be spot on. All in all a very pleasant stop over on a beautiful warm evening where we could dine outside on one of the many tables. Staff were friendly, locals welcoming and toilets were still pretty presentable after what must have been a very busy pub day. Would highly recommend a visit to this 16th Century hidden gem if you are hungry, thirsty or both. Ps the kids there seemed to be having loads of fun too. Ideal family gathering and feeding spot in beautiful Essex countryside.. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

A good roast dinner. I agree with the other comments though, that the roast potatoes seem like frozen ones warmed in the microwave?? Service was quick and the staff very nice.

Beautiful place to eat, the food was outstanding. Staff really helpful. Great to have such a varied menu on a Sunday

Just had a finger buffet and drinks there today after my mum’s funeral. Food was tasty; the staff were friendly and helpful. All reasonably priced. Really happy to recommend them. Thank you 👍

We visited for dinner as we stayed in a hotel nearby. The food was delicious and it looked like a lovely pub with loads of seating inside and outside. If we lived locally we would be visiting all the time. It looked like a popular pub as we had to wait for a parking spot.

I think the reason it’s so popular is there aren’t a lot of comparison pub/restaurants in Dunmow, all I can say it’s ok, never had a meal that I could really rave about. But then again never had a grotty meal. The service as always is quite poor, asked for tomato sauce for my daughter and it was brought to the table when she’d nearly finished her meal! Fish cakes were bland. Staff could do with better training.

For a small village pub the prices do need a review which seems to be general trend in these reviews. £22 last night for two burgers with chips and one drink! Don’t get me wrong the burgers were outstanding but for £9.50 I would have expected a plate at least and not a polystyrene box! Lovely place but staffing for such a busy day/evening should have been better as 30 minutes to queue for a Diet Coke was not good! Come on guys the locals are your business but the prices/service don’t attract us more regularly.

This place really could be so so special ... good food , lovely location and beautiful venue .. the only thing that lets it down is the staff just such a shame , as we’ve been twice now and unfortunately won’t return again

How poor on a nice Saturday afternoon being told you can only order food if you sit inside..no free tables in side free but there are 20+ tables outside... whats the point!! May have been refurbed but once again disappointing!! Take the trade while you can.?!?!?

The food was excellent. Loved the pizza. Very very thin crust and served straight from the oven so boiling hot. The staff fun and friendly. All in all spent a lovely afternoon there.

Had dinner tonight as wanted to take my father out and new the food was great. But tonight was very poor service freezing cold in the dining area we had to keep coats on another table even asked to move due to the coldness. Food was very low standard nothing like we had before drinks took ages to arrive considering it has just been refurbished should have put heating on the list. 1 bowl of veg between 3 people very poor as you are paying £15 for a plate of food steak pies wear in tins which u had to remove yourself.had to change menu choice twice as they kept running out not very good experience at all.

Nice place, although really noisy in the dining room due to a couple of groups with little kids,so we asked for a bit quieter table in another part of the place, which they kindly found us. Good menu and all what we ordered came up well cooked and very nicely presented. We sat and has a nice chat with friend near the bar area and all was nice until a group came in with a couple of manly little dogs and thought they should take over the area...even the poor waitress had to climb over chairs that they had moved around them, and I'm sure one of the dogs kept farting! I would return here but would try and book a table out of the way a bit.

Had the fish and chips off the vegetarian menu the haloumi in beer batter was gorgeous with peas and chips think it would have been better with salad 🥗 and new potatoes 🥔 as very filling . Service excellent brilliant choice ,would go again.
