Ancient abbey site dating to 1132. Ruins but it gives you a good idea of the size and layout of the abbey. Free to visit.
Nice place to have a walk or picnic, a site with a long history. Whilst the abbey is ruined there is plenty intact, enough to get a good idea of the layout of the building when it was in use. there are a few plaques around the site with some of the history details on overall a good free to visit site
Great place for walks, there are lovely wooded areas that are well maintained, lots of historical buildings to learn about at Greenfield Valley Heritage Park not just the abbey. For dog walkers, you can go off lead (responsibly) and there is also plenty of dog bins provided. Shop and cafe facilities available.
Lovely ruins, seem in good order, and nice to walk around if you're interested in medieval history and buildings. Free to access. Not well signposted, I only knew about it through the Cadw website and didn't see signs on the road I came by, but it is only small. There is a visitor centre for the area and cafe nearby, though I didn't use them myself.
If you're interested in history then it's worth a visit. We liked it, you just have to do some research, great for walking with the dog 🐕 as well.
A free to view set of ruins near Hollywell. There is a free car park and it is a short walk away and it is also dog friendly. Also close by are Greenfield mill ruins and St Winifred's well.
Nice set of remains from what you can tell was once an impressive place.

We went to visit Basingwerk Abbey on a lovely sunny morning to take our dogs for a walk. There is a cafe in the grounds called the Bakehouse and we just loved sitting having a coffee sitting in the sun with all the birds singing around us. I recommend trying their toasted tea cakes 🥰. We have not tried the Museum there yet so maybe on our next visit. There is a lovely long walk where you can go off on other paths to look at the ruins. It is well worth a visit.

A free abbey ruins to look around & very interesting.
There is a shop & toilets near it with the heritage museum that you pay to go in.
The car park is on a main road near a bridge & free to park & walk up the path.

Lovely, well preserved historic religious building.
A slightly magical place where you can allow you imagination to run riot about what it must have been like to believe strongly enough for the members of a religious order to undergo the hardships of life within these buildings.
Think also about the dedication of the pilgrims who trudged many miles to be able to reach this very isolated and rather beautiful place.
People stayed here because it was one of the many sites on the pilgrims route. It provided guest accommodations to those who may also have visited Saint Winifred's well and for those who could afford it whilst earning indulgence through pilgrimage.
In the Middle Ages the Christian Church encouraged people to make pilgrimages to special holy places called shrines. It was believed that if you prayed at these shrines you would be forgiven for your sins by earning indulgences and therefore have far more chance of going to heaven. Others went to shrines hoping to be cured from an illness they were suffering from.
A wonderful place to visit - best done on a warm sunny day.
Lovely peaceful day. We got perfect fish and chips from the village chippy and ate them in the shade of the ruins. Bliss!
Well maintained Cisterian's abbey ruins (noting particularry special even in scale of Wales) but as a Park funcion nice to walk and get rest.
Some interesting Heritage Park next to it, well worth to visit

The Abbey is in a well maintained park and apart from a few cans was wonderfully presented. A credit to Holywell! There is a cafe and information building nearby. Brilliant. You've lost a star as we found it very difficult to park our motorhome in Holywell.
