Review Steam Cafe - Grosmont

The Geall Gallery and Steam Cafe was our accommodation while doing the Coast to Coast. A lovely friendly environment and had some fantastic coffee when we arrived and awesome pizzas for dinner that night. really makes a change from all the terrible pub food we had along the way. A++

Chris Geall is an exceptionally good oil painter. We admire his work with a palette knife. It is rare to find a collection that we liked thoroughly.

I stayed here on my coast to coast walk. Grosmont is a lovely village in a beautiful location and The Gallery B&B was a great say. at £80 a night it was one of the more expensive places I stayed. However, it did not disappoint. The staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was well cooked and very generous and the rooms were immaculate. The interior design of the building is really nice and there is also a lovely balcony to sit out on and enjoy the views of the village. Expensive but you get your moneys worth.

Lovely place! We stayed in summer 4 nights. Lovely hospitality. Wonderful people. Tasty fresh breakfast in the way we love it! Pizza was fantastic at evening. Most recommended. Would love to come again! Please keep on the excellent work. Much appreciated.

I find myself having to somewhat defend the Gallery from a somewhat shallow review, based on negativity alluring to the fact of a lack of coffee drinking facilities ... truth is there is a coffee machine there, however ... the Gallery itself is filled with artistic charm and elegance, unusual art but tastefully and skillfully executed. The paintings and ceramics are high quality and hand fashioned ... and therein lies the cost. Future treasures are to be found here, by local artists. Not your usual junk shop fare. Enjoy

Popped into the cafe for a coffee. Had a lovely big slice of brownie and a flat white. Lots of choice and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be going back to try something off the pizza menu.

A beautiful Art Gallery full of stunning paintings and pottery. Chris Geall can be seen painting during the week as his studio is within the gallery. I live just half a mile away and regularly walk down to this friendly ( and dog friendly) place. A haven for the senses. Highly recommended.

Best pizza I have had in Britain, though that is a pretty low bar. Stayed in the associated B and B. Very comfortable room. Bit pricey. Would definitely recommend however.

After taking the train from Pickering to Grosmont, we had a wander around the village. We came across this gallery and my wife fell in love with a small pottery item. There were two artists painting at the rear of the gallery and it was one of them who served us. They were really friendly and chatty and were happy to spend time discussing their work. Well worth a look.

We came here by train from Glaisdale where we are staying in a pub. Our friends had stopped by this fun cafe and thought we’d like it so they texted us and we came over. We did like it. A lot. Ordered the £35 special which was 2 pizzas, salad and wine for which we substituted a couple of beers. The pizzas were the “smoky” which had a sauce of creamy horseradishy white bbq sauce, smoked chicken, mozzarella, and tomato sauce. We also had the “blue”-tomato sauce, blue cheese, walnut, prosciutto, honey and figs. Their sourdough crusts are precooked and frozen, but are actually good because of the flavor of the sourdough. The toppings were fabulous. We were generously supplied with a lightly (and perfectly) dressed salad of mixed greens, fig, walnut, cooked winter squash, & artichoke hearts which we also happily devoured. In summary, great place, excellent food, lovely staff.

This is a little gem. Four of us enjoyed really nice coffee, drinks and homemade snacks. The staff were so nice and the artwork is great. Lovely place to stop at if you are visting the North Yorks railway.

Beautiful gallery. Wonderful paintings of the moors. Inside you will find Steam cafe, great coffee and food. Amazing owners. Was a great experience.

Loved the pictures...lots of different styles of artwork and pottery. Beautiful landscape paintings by local artists. Scrumptious toasted sandwiches and delicious cakes in the cafe, perfect for a soggy Yorks afternoon.

What an amazing find in the heart of the moors. Utterly transfixing to watch Chris Geall paint. The atmosphere was wonderful, the food gorgeous and staff utterly charming. Can’t wait to come back...

I love Chris Geall's paintings and pottery. Good to see the man busy with some new pottery and another large landscape. One day i will go back and buy a large painting. Beautiful drive over to Grosmont from Saltburn.

This place is absolutely fantastic... We could,nt belive how comfortable the place is and how welcome we felt after a hard days hiking on the coast to coast. Everything was just perfect and that includes the freshly cooked breakfast... Fantastic
