Coming from Linthwaite in Huddersfield , but work in Halifax and the surrounding areas , this is the best fish and chip shop i have come across , i took the wife there after a visit to Calderdale hospital the other day and she said it was the best fish and chips she had ever had . you wont be disappointed . 5*
I’ve only had the pleasure of eating here once but wow, what an experience. I’ve never tasted fish and chips like it. Crispy batter, fluffy chips, and absolutely incredible customer service. Top 50 in the UK? No, Hirds is by far number 1. Thank you, I can honestly say you’ve gained a regular customer!
Well located along the main road and they are such lovely family run Award winning neighbourhood fish & chips shop! Everything is freshly prepared and cooked to order! ONE OF THE BEST we have eaten.... such Delicious flavour 😋! We tried a few things on the menu and everything is amazing 👏 highly recommended if you are around the area and we would be keen to visit again 😀
A sneaky Tuesday lunch at Hirds chippy with my girl - what a pleasant surprise!? We were greeted by friendly staff, ordered a chip butty and small fish & chips & mushy peas (plenty big enough for us)… Everything was cooked quickly to perfection and whilst we waited we had a giggle with Max over his tight-fitting women’s top. I can completely see why they’re award-winning (mainly for the fish, of course!). We’ll be back! Thank you.

They have quite an extensive menu for a chippy with some options for those that want gluten-free. Loyalty cards scheme is available so I advise you take advantage.
The BEST Fried fish I have EVER had. That was delicious the fluffier golden light GLUTEN FREE battery and a huge tasty fresh fish. Needs 10* I have bought some "bake at home" GLUTEN free pies too can wait to try them. 10/10 all round
Delicious as always. Can't reccomend a better 'chippy'. Reccomended it to a work mate and ge travels to come. Chips were nice, large and tasty. On previous visits I've had a veriety of the loaded chips which again were proper tasty. The fish batter is like nothing I've ever had. It's light and really crispy, just how it should be. Sometimes other places it can be quite soggy and heavy but not here. 100% would recommend.
A nice fish & chips, especially good batter and easy parking. I wish our local fish & chip shop could make it as tasty as this one can.

So, many people know that for the best fish & chips you have to go to Yorkshire. But once in Yorkshire, what then? Go to Hirds Family Fisheries. You will be amazed how good it can be. The Hird's are the ninja's of Fish and Chips. They make it look easy but don't be fooled, they are on a different level than everyone else. They really deserve 6 stars.
Pro tips: go when it's busy between 5 and 6, skip lunch, don't try try to dislodge chips that are stuck to the paper with a plastic fork.
