Have been coming here a few months now. The place exudes a homely atmosphere, managed by an eccentric Southerner ("an agent of the company he calls himself") and some lovely, always pleasant and helpful staff behind the bar. The manager, known as Damo to his friends, will often be found pacing the pool room like a tiger - where the Royal Oak is home to a strong pool league team - but he in fact looks after the flock of old and young players alike much like a pigeon looks after its newborns, with encouraging remarks like "are you alright?" The Royal Oak is doing extensive renovations upstairs for a private members club (a nominal monthly fee will give you access and discounted drinks) which will see brand new pool tables and big screen tvs installed and some magnificent views of town. The upstairs part of the pub in fact shows off just how old the pub is, with beautiful old stained glass and timber beams which originate from HMS Newcastle. Karaoke on Fridays from 8pm whilst most Saturdays are given over to a DJ. Friendly locals and good prices with a good selections of gins and real ales. Transport by luxury bus is regularly arranged for away games of the towns football club. The pub is easily accessible from the train station on foot and a stones throw from Shay Stadium.

What a brilliant place, from the outside look to the old fashioned interior. Open fires a fine selection of beers at good prices. Harps back to the days when pubs were pubs. Brilliant staff, a warm and comfortable place to sit with friends and talk.

What I particularly liked about this fine establishment was every town had somewhere like this up until a few years ago. Now finding one is a rare treat. Proper community pub. Beer was spot on as well. Loved it. Can I take it back to Ruislip?

Great pub. Usually go in after the football at The Shay. Very traditional pub with a good array of drinks at very reasonable prices. Got a TV screen up as well and it is very cosy inside. Staff are always polite. On a bit of a odd note, the men's toilets have got proper old school urinals. You rarely see them these days. I actually like the fact they still exist. Old school!

Returned to it after the concert DJ in full swing dedications taken and Great ska /punk music played with punters getting up dancing. Good atmosphere and easy going people out to have a good night. Went in on a Tuesday teatime. Quiet. Plenty of seats. Very reasonable prices. I had a Pale ale which I wasn't keen on but it was my choice. Mates had bitter which was fine. Can't comment anything about food. Bar staff friendly and served quickly.

What a wonderful gem of a traditional pub we stumbled across after going to a gig at Piece Hall. Traditional old pub, very welcoming, great to chat with the locals. Awesome ale, try the signature brew called The Royal Oak, so tasty and was only £2.65 a pint, after spending a month down South that was music to the wallet ❤️

Now this building has its own amazing features plus it’s a very warm pub but from the outside it just screams history and the old days . Inside absolutely how a pub should be just spacious also not a bad pint and good bar staff
