I went to see Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde last night and it was fantastic, I never really used to go to the square chapel in it's old format but this new one make it looks fantastic. The reception area is large and welcoming a perfect place to meet and have a drink before the show. The theatre is a nice size so that everyone can see but also feels personal, I was sat on the back row and I still felt as though the actors were talking to me. I really enjoyed it and I will be back

The wedding on Saturday of Andrew and Jess was just amazing. The venue was just very special and unique being only the second one since refurbishment. The staff led by Mo & Adam were so helpful we cannot speak highly enough as nothing was too much trouble in making this day a long lasting memorable occassion. Another mention to a staff member,Will Brook who went over and behond the call of duty to help in anyway possible. Thank you Square Chapel and all concerned. 🏆

Fantastic arts centre adjoining the beautiful Piece Hall. Staff could not be more helpful and friendly and certainly go the extra mile for everyone. The small menu is excellently cooked and very enjoyable. With a wide variety of great beers who could ask for more when out to see a band, play or film.

Great place, food a bit pricey. But the cinema, live theatre poetry etc excellent. Most of the staff are great, maturatity needed behind the bar.

Great, intimate venue. Prefer it to the Victoria theatre. Decent bar on the entry too with cask and craft beer

Welcoming, pleasant surroundings. Great cafe/ bar with good selection of food and drink for snacks and meals. Complimentary for a night out for the theatre.

As excellent cafe and craft ale facility beautifully placed near to the main entrance to the Halifax Piece Hall. Tge Piece Hall itself has been superbly refurbished as a continental piazza and open sir concert venue. A real must for the visitor to Halifax.

Lovely “airy” café within the arts centre, right next to the Piece Hall.
Enjoyed nice coffees at a reasonable price. It’s licensed if you want something stronger!

Lovely new place with lots of potential in a great location next to the reopened Piece Hall. Food and drink menus are great, particularly the nice selection of local beers which have always been in great condition. My issues are the poor levels of service with inattentive staff, usually plenty of staff but doing the wrong things, 6 people at the bar waiting to be served with 1 person serving while the rest not doing anything useful, wrapping cutlery! Tables weren’t cleared and cleaned, food was at best warm on my last visit. Overall there just doesn’t seem to be anyone in charge, directing resources appropriately and prioritising customer service. This place needs managing better otherwise customers will get fed up and go elsewhere or not return and that would be a great shame.

By far the best place for lunch in Halifax, we've eaten here so many times and it's a great place to try new foods. Great beer too

The Venue was brilliant, just buying the vouchers to purchase food, drinks etc, which I thought were a bit steep! And a pain. The food definitely was not worth the £5 for a tiny box. D.j in one room and live singing in another, surely the live music would have been better piped through so all could enjoy it and not be confused. Nothing like a food and drink festival I've been to before. Different.dont get me started on the free glass, you couldn't take it if you didn't have a bag to carry it in!

What a let down the restaurant/bar is, we went Sunday to enjoy the festive platter advertised on the menu before seeing a show at 4pm, we arrived early so we (family of 5) could enjoy some food beforehand, when we asked for a menu, the bar staff told me there is a delay, kitchen staff have stopped any orders for 20 minutes, ok we had enough time so decided to get a drink and wait, after 15 mins I checked again if we could order, conscious that the film started at 4, none of the staff had any idea what was happening or if we could even order, no one seemed to be in charge, they then told me they couldn’t take orders until they got an “ok” from kitchen, no timescale so very unhelpful. We ended up finishing our drinks and going elsewhere, taking the children back out in the cold, not leaving us a lot of time to eat and be back for the show! I love Square chapel and would rather pay money to them instead of the big complex’s but this experience has put me off returning! It wasn’t even full surely they should be more prepared when they have events on!

The bar is nice and decent beer choices. However there was only one person tending the bar and a massive queue waiting to be served. More staff required at busy times please.

Firstly, this new building is a fabulous addition to Halifax - Well Done! And the staff did do their best to be welcoming. However, as with anything new, things needs tweaking, as it were. My family and a couple of friends, recently visited to watch a film in the Copper Auditorium: we had pre-booked tickets as we knew there was limited seating. We arrived an hour early to enjoy a drink in the bar. Unfortunately for us however, we arrived as the live performance was breaking for intivel. As the designated Driver, I wanted a coffee, but was informed by bar staff, that they, 'Don't make coffee during an inteval', and so while my friends and family queued for 15mins to get their alcoholic drinks and juices, I got my coffee nearly 30 mins later - the wee lassie who eventually made it for me having given me the wrong drink entirely. I have a debilitating, health issue, and by this time I felt quite exhausted by the whole thing. The doors opened earlier than expected and so had to go in to secure what I thought was an appropriately comfy seat on the back row - with sufficient leg room (disability). Well I'm afraid there wasn't sufficient leg room, for me or, for my fellow patrons. All of us struggled with our knees pushed up to our bellies. We all ended up at different times, having to stretch our legs during the film. What a shame. What a disappointment. I fully intend to give this lovely place another try sometime, but cannot help feeling disappointed. Details have been sorely, over-looked, and need addressing. First World problems!

I was more than impressed with the new Square Chapel. Lovely bar, food great albeit a small menu and plenty drinks to choose from. Reasonable prices. Saw Borg v McEnroe (excellent) in the Copper Auditorium. Comfy chairs. Good audio. My only criticism is there is a fine line in one place across the screen which was more apparent at some times. Hope it's fixed. We'll be back 😀

The all-new Square Chapel Arts Centre is a fantastic cultural and entertainment venue. On Sunday 13 Sept we hosted the poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy and her Court Musician John Sampson, to a sell-out audience. They were terrific, and want to come back! The Square Chapel is THE place to enjoy the very best in live theatre, comedy, dance, poetry, and wonderful food and drink too in our brand new cafe bar.

Well, I would give the building and the bar 5* - lovely atmosphere. BUT we came to see a film and a more uncomfortable couple of hours I have never spent. Honestly I struggled for leg room, my hubby was very uncomfortable. Why on earth are the seats so uncomfortable and so little leg room. They have really missed a treat here. I would hate to be a large or tall person because that would have been torturous. We sat at the back, fortunately hubby had an end seat. Such a shame. We will not be back for another visit to the film or show venues, but we will come back for drinks & food as that was super.

Only went for a bite of lunch but the food was good. Not a huge menu but enough for lunch.

Was there for the Embrace Q&A listening party yesterday. Really lovely and warm location. Bar/restaurant presents a tasting and various menu. Loved beer too. Just perfect

A community supported event location, that also offers food & drink. Some great & different happenings (check out the indie movies) as it is a tour venue. Decent beer & food on hand if you just want a calmer place to chill at

Nice atmosphere in which to eat or drink. I had already sampled the ale on a previous visit so I decided it was time to try the food menu & also their coffee. I was fairly satisfied with the outcome & the price of the food was certainly reasonable. As you would expect from a relatively new establishment, it has a very modern feel & the staff are pleasant in a refreshing way as well. Will definitely be visiting again in the near future.
