The Wortwell Bell is back in the best way possible.
Gone are all the cheap, tacky furnishings and plastic flowers installed by the previous incumbents, and we're back to where we should be; a traditional, atmospheric, warm and welcoming public house serving good beer.
Food isn't available yet, but apparently is coming shortly and it really sounds very positive; a focus on traditional pub food, sourced locally and cooked on the premise - will update this review as soon as this becomes available.
On tap are Madri, Becks and Aspalls cider; a couple of decent popular lagers and a nice local cider.
But the stars of the show are the ales brewed locally at Stow Fen Brewery by the landlord. Three beers have been on tap so far; Stock Bridge Best; a really good example of fine traditional best bitter, Broad Water Gold; a nice, slightly malty golden ale, and Angles Way Amber; a really great session ale that I could drink all evening (and have done). As well as all being great beers, these are less than £4 each; when was the last time you bought a round for 4 for less than £15?
All in all, a really great return for The Bell, once again run by someone who is enthusiastic and cares about how a pub should be including great beer and really looking forward to seeing how the food offering develops.
Lovely lunch when travelling only place doing food. Nice and hot The guy working that day was friendly and helpful.
Visited today for a quick drink. Good choice of drinks for adults and kids. Loved the outside seating. The menu looked good for food with a good range of roasts for a Sunday.
We stayed half an hour away and found this little gem en route. Bar staff were really pleasant, food was really good and pub felt really clean, spacious and well decorated. Would definitely recommend.
Great pub , very freindly staff , made to feel very welcome and food was 5 star and also very dog freindly
Excellent service and excellent food really good value for money still excellent service and excellent food
Not been to this pub before but passed it and thought it was worth a visit, so glad that we decided to try it out. The pub is clean and comfortable and nicely decorated. We decided to stay for a Sunday roast and wasn't disappointed. The food was lovely. There was plenty of it and it was delicious. The restaurant wasn't too busy so made for nice dining and they was playing good background music which added to the atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and attentive. We had no complaints, thoroughly enjoyed our visit and we will be back.
Found this pub while staying nearby (about a 15 minute drive away) and I’m so glad we did! The food was absolutely delicious (proper home cooked pub food as it should be!) and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. If you’re ever up near Wortwell it is definitely worth a visit.
Cosy little pub with bar food and restaurant, good selection of ales and made welcome. Lost a star, for a couple of the meals were cold inside and had to be sent back. Saying that try there steak and kidney pudding absolutely delicious.
Very impressed with the Bell. Very nice food and all at good prices. Will be visiting again.
Good wholesome home cooked food. Definitely will return to choose other meals from the extensive menu. Excellent value for money and good service.
Beautiful country pub and friendly staff. We arrived a bit close to food service end time but were lucky to be just in time for an amazing and tasty roast dinner each. Definitely looking to return, wish we had a local pub like this in Long Stratton 😢
Stopped for Sunday lunch on the off chance as we hadn't booked. Very welcoming, no issue there. Sunday roast was served promptly and all round excellant. Very generous portion of beef topside which was very tender and tasty and no fat wastage.Veg cooked perfectly and the desert was delicious. Very good value for money meal served by a delightful young lady. Will definately come back for another Sunday lunch sometime soon.

Welcoming place
Good country pub filled with all sorts of interesting items.... Good food, good ale and a warm welcome!! Pate starter.... On route to Southwold 👍
First meal out since lock down eased. Very full menu and value for money food led to an enjoyable night out. Although a warm evening I couldn't resist the Steak & Kidney Pudding which came with chips, peas and a lovely rich gravy. The 4 of us all had different main courses and all plates were picked clean. Good social distancing measures in place. Would recommend highly.
