I attended a college in the NE in the 60's that is the double.of the Oval.it was v exciting to visit the Oval & the cafe was a special treat w excy coffee.
Lovely, friendly and relaxing place to go for excellent coffees and amazing cakes. A family favourite!

Nice little place, handy for a coffee and cake during a bike ride, seating inside for cooler or rainy days but my preferred option it one of the benches scattered outside. Nice place to bring children as it has a massive central green and playing fields out the back with a nice woodland walk and a virtually traffic free perimeter round around the green for youngsters on bikes or scooters.
The atmosphere in here is great BIG open rooms in a vintage building with subtle modern decor, beautifully made coffee with a good customer service and a quick but pleasant chat while my latte and cake were prepared for me to devour I had chosen the apple and cinnamon loaf cake and a ice big slice of chocolate brownie neither disappointed and were topped off with a beautiful latte.

I discovered this place through a Google search and concur with others. The coffee is excellent. The cakes and sandwiches are really good too. Add to that the genuinely warm and friendly staff and it's a winner. Will keep returning. Thank you Eduardo from Brazil for the super service.
I hear the staff is voluntary. They are young, smiling, offering great service and professional.
I enjoyed sitting outside in the summer, reading a book on a sunny day, and sipping my caramel latte away.
I visited again recently, and the atmosphere inside the place is just as cosy. And the coffee with a heart design from a kind lady was a nice artistic surprise to receive. :)

Very lively and cosy - a quiet room available. Nice view from the window; looking out over a village green. I take one star off because the tea i ordered was £1.90 and was in a tiny cup.

Everything about this place is beautiful, not only the location but also the buildings and the work that it's carried out at YWAM Harpenden. The Oval Café is no exception, it's a very cosy environment, the service it's excellent and everything that is sold at this place has a distinctive seal... Love. I couldn't recommend this place enough ❤️
Hidden away in Harpenden it offers great coffee and a small selection of cakes and Panini.
Service is slow but friendly. WiFi and mains available for those who wish to work, and a large grass area with benches outside for a picnic and kids to run around.
Bring your kids' scooters and let them wear themselves out while you get your caffeine fix.
Favourite cafe in Harpenden... if not England! Quality staff and probably the best atmosphere. You can plug away and get work done, or you can allow yourself to be interrupted by the wonderful friendly-family like vibes that the Oval Cafe offers.
Not to mention that there's beautiful grounds surrounding the cafe! Open fields, football pitches, and woodlands around. Who wants to drink coffee in a stuffy, cramped, city...

Love this quirky, warm and friendly cafe at the heart of an important international initiative and community. I meet a friend here occasionally and the coffee is excellent, the staff polite and friendly and interior clean and tasteful. Well worth the journey away from the chain companies.

Great little cafe, always a very friendly welcome! Delicious savoury croissants, cakes and sweet treats and good drinks. You've got to try the hot apple steamer! Our go to place for a drink and snack, and also a fab location for sunsets outside the front of the cafe!

Such an easy, calm place to visit with children. A room just for families and a space for working too. Great coffee and always greeted with a smile. Beautiful outdoor space to soak up some sun and a forest walk behind is the cherry on the top. Love the Oval! X
