The Drum and Monkey is the best sort of Harrogate institution. Delightful owner who is front of house. Fab menu of fresh fish and shellfish. Thoroughly recommend King Scallops with Cauliflower Puree. Hake and Halibut also delicious and perfectly cooked and presented. Need another trip to Harrogate so can eat at here again. If you like fish this is a must.

Intimate restaurant. We had the fish soup and the hot seafood platter. It was really tasty and would recommend the restaurant to anyone. Quite expensive but for a special meal it is totally worth it. Booking advised to avoid disappointment

Day trip to Harrogate and passed a few seafood restaurants while walking through The Mews. Made a mental note to go back to Drum and Monkey for a late lunch. I was not disappointed! The roasted sea trout with summer veggies was excellent and I could hardly finish it, the piece of trout was that big. I had just enough room left for ice cream, which was an excellent variety, whatever it was. I know you're sposed to drink white wine with fish, but I prefer red, and it, too, was excellent. The service was great, place was small but lovely (and clean); had a lovely view out of the front window. If you like seafood, I can highly recommend the Drum and Monkey.

Poo and I were utterly amused to see a celebrity comedian sitting in a corner of the ground floor bar when we entered the Drum & Monkey. We did a good job of suppressing our excitement though as he looked relaxed and content on his own, immersed in some reading/writing (I’d seen him ‘live’ before on the London comedy circuit – first at the Chuckle Club around the millennium then at the Hackney Empire – before he made it big and went on to TV, so there was something pleasing about seeing him post-success and clearly enjoying a moment out of the limelight… oh go on then I’ll tell, it was Alastair McGowan). Poo and I had a glass of prosecco for aperitifs before being shown up to our table on the first floor where we had a window view. Avocado + crab starter @ £6.45 Seafood mornay starter @ £6.95 For starters, I had avocado and fresh crab on a bed of green leaves @ £6.45, while Poo had croustades of seafood mornay – rounds of garlic bread filled wi

The food was off the chart fantastic. All of the staff who welcomed us, served and engaged with us were all suitably chatty, friendly and lovely. In terms of atmosphere we were sat downstairs, felt a little loud and busy for us. Cant say what upstairs is like but might have preferred it.

Spot on! Great place for seafood located in a nice and traditional building. The food was really good and fresh at a reasonable price. We had only starters as we spend the day eating but the whole menu sounds amazing. Good & quick service. Great selection of wines. We had 6x oysters, small scallops, lobster bisque, lobster Tortellini and Crab with Brioche Bun. All sharing. Parking available around the city.

Quick lunch as had a train to catch. Food was very good. We didn't have time to experience the atmosphere as we dined at 12.15pm, just us in. Definitely worth a try if in town.

Very good food. But silly prices for what it is in my opinion. While very tasty, I would say my steak and lobster were over done, as was my partners lobster and £73 for two bottles of 'screw top' white wine was ludicrous. Service was good, but the atmosphere and general ambience was a little flat the evening we visited.

Super relaxed lunch. The Lindisfarne Oysters were so good I ordered more. Flamed mackerel followed by Halibut and a couple of glasses of very drinkable house white.

Couldn't fault it, I've been to the south of France and gone to seafood restaurants and they were not as good as this one. The mussels were amazing and the Halibut was superb washed down with a decent bottle of wine of course. They have an extensive menu and the seafood is so Fresh. The Service was also brilliant 👍🦐🦀🐟🍾😁

Superb fish and seafood restaurant. Food that has a sense of occasion. Had an outstanding trout with a delicious almond and caper crust along with perfectly cooked seasonal veg. Great attentive serve. Look forward to returning again.

Visited at 8pm, 05/03, table for two. The food was absolutely amazing. Salmon pate starter and 10oz sirloin for me, mussels and Nidderdale trout for my partner. The pate was absolutely superb (actual pieces of salmon in there, too!) And the steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The mussels were "the best i've ever had" (and he has them a lot!), and the trout was perfect! Very fairly priced given the quality of food and generous portions! To our shame, we can't remember the names of the two wonderful waiting staff who served us (the fantastic lady and gent working upstairs, where we were seated). We could not fault them. If we had our own restaurant, we'd want them to work in it, they were so good! Absolutely phenomenal. A perfect evening, will always recommend to friends and family!!

Oh my gosh, this beautiful little find is the gem of Harrogate. The food was absolutely delicious and with no exaggeration, the Pan-Fried Hake Chowder was singularly one of the BEST meals I have ever tasted; and I am in my 40's! A substantial serving, exquisitely presented, full of flavour; the type of food that make me giggle because it was so good. The Chef could easily work in a Michelin starred kitchen because the offerings are out of this world. The only thing that let the place down was one of the staff, who seemed almost offended when we had walked in querying availability. Fortunately, her colleague was friendlier if a little cordial. But overall, hand on heart, if you visit Harrogate, the Drum and Monkey is an absolute must; a beautiful little seafood restaurant close to the centre of town.
