Nice small intermediate restaurant. Good food with lot of selection and reasonable price. Very good service by staff and owner.

Love this restaurant. Food is always excellent and service efficient and friendly. Fixed menu or à la carte. Fixed menu has a very good selection and most people should be able to find something that they like. Good varied dessert trolley too. Also had a bottle of the House sparkling rosé, which was first-class.

We were invited here for the birthday of a dear friend. The food - for starters, two of us had fish soup, one vegetable soup, one French onion soup, while the youngest chose the lightly battered calamari - all the choices were pronounced excellent. For mains, two had venison, one confit of duck, one lamb shank, and our young friend went for the lasagne. I have to report we all enjoyed ourselves. We passed on the puddings (except the youngest had Cheesecake) as we had brought a rather large birthday cake, for which our waiter provided plates, and yes the service was very friendly indeed!

Neither my partner nor I had eaten at The Old Etonian before, but after friends had raved about it & dined there on special occasions we joined said friends for delicious food & excellent service. Some will find the decor dated, but we found it charming; besides we were more interested in the food/drink than the furnishings 🥂🍾🍾🥂

We really enjoy coming here. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is delicious. Has a dessert trolley which I haven't seen in any other restaurants for a long time!

Friendly staff, warm and welcoming. Excellent prices. Only problem... no disabled toilet access... i am sure that is the same for many restaurants on the hill because of their historic buildings.

With more than half century of providing excellent friendly service and tasty French/Mediterranean cuisine. Summer time the terrace has scenic views of West London.

Good establishment.
Been in Harrow for years. Good fare at reasonable prices, the staff can be a bit moody.... (well they were on our last visit).

Reasonably busy for a weeknight so he had to wait a little to be served, however the food was incredible from starter through to dessert and we're looking forward to returning

Ate there only once nearly 30 years ago. It still holds fond memories. Glad it is still in operation. Well worth your visit.

A secret that only the locals know about, great food for a great price. Wonderful view looking out Westward.

A wrong turning took me heading towards Harrow rather than Alperton (those of you in the know won't be in the least bit surprised) and by the time I'd travelled a mile or so I hit upon Harrow on the Hill, home to the famous school and its magnificent surroundings.
It's also home to The Old Etonian Restaurant, normally rammed on a Sunday with parents taking their privileged offspring to lunch in this terribly old fashioned dining room; it was relatively empty however, due to the Christmas break.
Apparently the views from the terrace are spectacular, but this being the middle of winter we were installed in a cosy corner and were duly handed the Sunday lunch menu by our young and enthusiastic waitress.
Two courses for £16.50 seemed pretty reasonable and there was plenty of choice - I was just a tad underwhelmed by the menu, written in French as well as English.
I know, one would hardly expect a Heston Blumenthal affair blaring out at you in all it's experimental weirdness and I guess tradition is everything in these parts, but at the same time, does one have to stay steeped in safety either?
At any rate, asparagus and moules for starters, the chicken in port, mushrooms and cream and sea bream for mains were ordered, along with a Carte Noir Provencale Rose.
Little touches can really add to a place and I am often rather miffed at how little attention is paid to the quality of the bread, especially when you're handing over a decent sum of money. Sadly It tasted like a cheap baguette in all its nasty wooliness.
The wine arrived and all negative thoughts were duly banished. The beautiful rose hue that is classically Provence in all its delicate lovliness was a truly elegant, dry wine with a long and wonderful finish. The asparagus arrived, served in a pool of butter and some grated parmesan. Despite it not being in its short season, it had a wonderful texture and had just the right amount of bite. The moules were served in a very creamy, rich sauce and a 'French' amount of sliced garlic, something which always pleases me.
The chicken, moist and tender, sat in a most wonderful mushroom and port sauce. The tang of alcohol and the richness of the sauce really made a wonderful marriage.
Now for my second gripe, the veg; I wish I'd taken a photo. A tiny plate arrived with 3 sprouts, two potatoes and a broccoli floret all looking rather sad. They were bland and utterly uninspiring. I just don't get it. I'd just tasted a sauce to die for.
The bream, served in a tangy, citrus sauce would have been lovely with a dollop of mash and some spinach. Bream with sprouts however, just didn't do it for me.
Never having room for a third course sometimes leaves me jealous of fellow diners indulging in wicked looking puddings and I have to say, the good old fashioned trolley groaned with delightful looking desserts. Looking at the diners who indulged, they seemed to be a very sated bunch indeed.
Here I have to mention that the service was prompt and very professional indeed throughout our meal, always an added bonus.
I don't know whether The Old Etonian takes a look at itself now and again, or whether it gives a hoot, as their customers are on the doorstep, they know their audience and on a Sunday they have two sittings for lunch. Their website is lamentably old and doesn't even have a wine list to look at. Again, do they give a hoot? I expect not.

NEVER AGAIN!. I have never experienced such shoddy and ungracious service in the many years I have been dining out.

What should have been a nice family occasion was ruined by the abysmal organisation and attitude of ALL the staff, coupled with the lack of apology for the multitude of major mistakes.

I would strongly advise anyone considering a visit to this joke of an establishment to seriously reconsider as there are many far better local restaurants to choose from.

Read the reviews, save your money and visit elsewhere.

THIS" RESTAURANT" IS A DISGRACE - ENTER AT YOUR OWN PERIL

Visited January 2014

Really liked this place. The view was great, the waiter friendly and recommended the best dishes rather than the expensive ones. The food was very good quality and the traditional styling made for a relaxed romantic evening. Don't know why this place doesn't have a higher rating.

Lunch Monday 27 February 2012. Lovely lunch yesterday (Monday). Wonderful French onion soup. Just as it should be. Had that, and a salad. Reasonably priced. Waiters polite and efficient.

Fine dining with a fine view. Spent a lovely evening at the Old Etonian. Walked up past Harrow School through picturesque old Harrow village then sat on admiring the sunset from their hilltop terrace. Starters were great, we had succulent Prawns in white wine sauce and fried calamari. Had the main course in the simple but elegant restaurant, venison and lamb both well cooked, lamb was delicious, venison sauce was excellent. £53 + tip for starters, mains and mineral water, good value for a special evening out.

This is such a gem of a place. To go back one step actually, Harrow on the Hill was a gem in itself! To come across this village of sorts in the middle of Harrow is not something I had expected and then came the Old Etonian.

Again, do not be fooled by the exterior, walk-in and you will want to make this restaurant one of your warm locals. Unfortunately when we went, the weather wasn't on our side to use the lovely outside seating area they have at the back. Ordered the Lamb Shank which was very well cooked, almost coming off the bone. Went for a work lunch and even though I was quite full already, I could not bear to leave anything on my plate.

Definitely going back sometime soon.
