Driving down a country road thinking I must've taken a wrong turn ,then Rievaulx Abbey sits I the distance. Such a beautiful sight. The museum really gives you an insight of how the monks lived and how the Abbey must've looked before the Great Suppression. So much to see and do all in all a beautiful day out. One more point. The cafe served up good honest food and raises money to keep the Abbey looking it's best.

Brilliant place. Loads of nooks and crannies for kids to explore. Been loads and it's still fascinating. Beautiful place and surroundings. Plus the drive down to it off the A170 is stunning too. Probably one of top 5 places in Britain, if not wider!!!

We had a wonderful time visiting Rievaulx and was lucky with the weather in February! It is fantastic for all ages as my children loved exploring the place and finding hidden gems around the abbey ... picturesque scenery and a great place for taking pictures! Would go back again as well worth it but I would avoid driving through the Sutton Bank route as my heart was in my throat! The staff were brilliant and helpful too.. thankyou for making it memorable for us all.

A fantastic place for the kids to explore and stunning setting for a picnic. Loved our visit yesterday. Even managed to get the kids to listen to the history of the place by an amusing man dressed as a monk!! Excellent place, shall be returning soon !

My Dad died in 1995 and his ashes are scattered around the high altar. Rievaulx has always been an incredibly special place for me and my family, but now even more so. My wedding was blessed at his beautiful place in August and we have a lovely bench now dedicated to his memory. Dad loved this place... And so do I.

Despite the weather being cold & wet we had a lovely visit to The Abbey today. We started off by warming up with a nice cappuccino in the cafe with a lovely view of the Abbey, followed by a Falconry display by a couple dressed up in medieval clothes who were funny & entertaining, treating the 4 beautiful birds they displayed with great respect. We were taken by all the birds particularly the golden eagle, an elderly bird of maybe 19 years old who had a very majestic demeanour. After the display we walked around the Abbey Ruins where we were presented with some beautiful architecture and a very serene atmosphere. We also visited the museum which told us the history of the Abbey & where we discovered some interesting artefacts. All in all a good visit with nice friendly staff.

Everywhere peace, Everywhere serenity. Stunning place, very well preserved in places and fascinating to walk around led by a Monk from centuries ago on the free audio guide. Really is quiet and peaceful with only sounds coming from birds and sheep and was not many people about on a Monday afternoon. Made me think what life was like as a monk in this wonderfully located abbey.

What a magnificent site and sight. The clouds were very black which added to the atmosphere. One can't imagine what it must have looked like when it was first built, the skill and ingenuity is breathtaking. We loved our visit and to top it all I want able to buy some plants which I haven't been able to get down South. A memorable end to our short stay in North Yorkshire.

Ticket price: Join the English Heritage and ticket entry is free! Parking: Plenty and the drive there is beautiful, Staff: All amazing really friendly and approachable, The place itself: beautiful and well looked after, Dog friendly, has picnic tables and onsite cafe. Gift shop: loads of wonderful trinkets purchased ourselves some lovely mead! Not sure if disabled friendly, the shop and the path leading up to the abbey is accessible, think there are steps that prevent access through the but not 100% sure.

This place is amazing and so well worth the drive. The drive itself was so beautiful with very narrow and winding roads, but then you come around a corner, and there it is in all its glory. It's so unreal that it actually reminds me of something you see in Lord of the Rings. I would suggest using Greg the tour guide we used, as he was very knowledgeable and even had an extra large umbrella for all of us to share when the rain started to fall. Very considerate of him. The staff and everyone in the concession area were so friendly and welcoming. Thanks for a great visit.

A nice place to visit for a few hours tucked away in the North Yorkshire Moors. A huge ruin with tiny museum and exhibition space. The audio guide was really helpful and the museum was small but interesting. I think a few more seats would not go amiss, perhaps in a sheltered position for those ‘rare’ Yorkshire days when there is rain. A few more info boards illustrating daily life would have been interesting - the bus load of kids who were visited at the same time were fascinated with what a communal loo for 30 people looked like! An excellent shop and nice tea shop too!

Lovely place to spend a few hours wandering around the plentiful ruins, followed by a bite/drink in the pleasant ‘new’ (2016) cafe. Clean toilets. Small museum displaying mainly stone carvings and some implements found on the site. Car park being improved for more parking.

The route to the village from York can be renamed therapy route. It was such a scenic and dotted with cute villages all along the way. The village is quaint, green and not invaded by tourists yet. The village has a free parking area that accepts only donation. Walk around the village and you will find yourself transported to a different world. Lots of fowls flying around. Best time to go - Just after a mild rain in spring, it brings out the colors. ( haven't tried Autumn yet).

This is a 5 star place to visit but loses a star due to the insanity of the suspension, tracking wrecking potholes in the car park. Sorry to the trust but sort out that car park access before someone wrecks themselves and their vehicles, imagine a cyclist or someone with walking difficulties, think you get the point here Lovely site to visit, nice little cafe clean and very tidy, we stayed for coffee and cake There is a little museum on site up to the right of the Abbey with lots of history of the place in it It once must have been such a building in its heyday and thanks to English Heritage for keeping these places for us to enjoy and soak up the atmosphere of what was once something spectacular As for that carpark.......

Really nice cafe with beautiful viewing area (of the abbey ruins), in case you don’t fancy the £15 entrance fee. Good sized car park (charges apply) and very friendly and helpful staff.

Rievaulx Abby is definitely one of the best English heritages sites we have visited so far, the site is massive. We spent hours there looking around its located next to the river and a beautiful forest. The site has a very well laid out museum, cafe with outside sitting looking over the site. It’s packed full of historical relics highly recommend doing the audio tour we will definitely be visiting again.

A beautiful place to visit, even on a rainy and foggy day. Greg gave us a lovely overview of the abbey’s history seen as it was quiet, which we really appreciated. Very informative. Highly recommend visiting at opening time in the morning (10am in October) as there were only a few other visitors at that time. The little museum was an excellent visit too!
