Just Subs

A Hillsborough Institution. Just Subs has been around for as long as I can remember, and with good reason. Their subs and toppings are delicious. A lot of great memories from this place, from prom weekend to just this past Friday. I'm a huge sandwich/sub eater and can confidently say that these guys make the beat sub around. If you're in the market for something new: sliced Buffalo chicken, pepper jack cheese (toasted or not, depends on mood) blue cheese dressing, black olives, diced cherry peppers, lettuce, tomato, onion, salt, pepper, vinegar, light on some Chipotle mayo. Wish I could know other people's orders. That's one of the best features: the subs are so customizable. If you're ever in Hillsborough, you have to visit the Just Subs that started it all.

Awesome. Just Subs does gets very, very busy during lunchtimes but the employees are friendly despite the rush, highly professional, and most importantly -- keep everything moving with astonishing speed and precision. They have many options for different subs and sandwiches. Their bread was always awesome. It was always a great portion that would leave you sated and possibly with leftovers. I greatly enjoy their turkey and their roast beef subs. The menu is clear, and easy to read and see as you are waiting in line. The dining room is small but always clean with good tables and seating.

Stopped in to get a sub last night. Unfortunately, I saw some pretty gross food handling procedures while I was there. Though the employees were wearing gloves they were touching a cellphone with the gloves then turned back to making my sandwich. Had I been ignorant to the fact that cellphones are usually multitudes more disgusting than toilet seats, I would’ve eaten the sandwich. I paid and threw the sandwich away. Wasn’t feeling confrontational as I’m pretty sure the older gentleman was either the owner or a manager. I have done experiments taking samples from bottoms of shoes, toilet seats, doorknobs etc, and the cellphone petri dishes are always the most disgusting as far as bacteria

EDITED 5/10/22 Not sure why, but I half-heartedly decided to try them again the other day because I wanted to HOPE it wasn't the same as about a year ago. I am so glad I did! It seems the "young punk" problem has been taken care of. Hopefully this edit will inform others that might have stopped coming in because of that one employee. YOU CAN GO BACK! It felt like it used to. Everyone was friendly, the "assembly line" was as smooth as always, and of course the sub was exactly as I remembered. DELICIOUS! Damn I missed their bread!!!!! I am so glad I have my fav sub shop to go back to again when I get home from my trip. ________________________________________________________________________ Well, I normally don't write these things, but man good food isn't worth being disrespected. This Tuesday, the 20th, this young punk behind the counter was muttering comments under his breath the whole time, making all sorts of obscene comments directed at me. I don't even know if he knew I could hear him, I couldn't believe it. I will not be coming back, which is really sad. I will no longer be a positive mouthpiece for Just Subs. I've been a long time customer, and that is just unacceptable for anyone to have to deal with, let alone someone that has been loyal to this place for so long. Thanks for everything, up until now. Disappointing.
