My brother highly recommended the Shepherd’s Arms and we were not disappointed! From entering the chef Michael came to speak to us and told us to sit anywhere.. very comfortable pub with a great menu from main meals to snacks.. I had the crispy belly pork which was amazing! My husband had fish and chips which he absolutely loved. All cooked with a lot of TLC. Michael came back to ask how we’d found the food and told him it was outstanding. We will be back very soon, great to have found this gem of a place 👍😋

Went for my birthday. Plenty of choice, but I don't eat meat but eat fish, so a bit limited. Hubby had muscles, the sauce was quite tastles. I had scampi, some piping hot some only warm. Chips were lovely and portion size was good. Quick service all round. A few comments, to add Please bring the bread in a basket rather than on top of the muscles- would have been a better option as hubby had to put the bread on the table. The table were were seated at was right in front of the kitchen door and by the till so, a bit like the M62 on Monday morning! Starters in menu and mains on the boards near the bar, a bit odd in my opinion The waiting staff were lovely but a bit "cafe" calling us "love" a personal thing, sorry. The owner / chef (not sure) came out to ask for feedback, which I gave - as listed above, he offered to let us eat free, we didn't accept his offer but really appreciate it. He was genuinely interested in my feedback, thank you. All in all, it was ok but, not sure I'd hurry back, sorry

Went here for valentines night, and what an unexpected treat it was. The food was outstandingly good, the chef Michael Oldroyd came out to introduce himself and ask if everything was okay, adding a nice touch to the dining experience.

Food is good, home cooked and as the name of restaurant suggests sort of old fashioned and the comfort foods we like. Have been a few times now, the last time was 20th Feb at lunch time 12.30. The waitress appeared a little nonplussed because we had not booked and 'they were going to be really busy at 1 pm' yet there was a good few empty tables at that point with a second section with no one in. A table was found. The food was good as always. A comment later by another waitress as more people walked in was the amount of people who had just turned up with no booking (not unusual is it for a restaurant). Must admit we had felt a little awkward at the initial reception. I have not marked down but hope the restaurant see this and rectify the reception.

Want to start of by saying that the team are very kind, caring and generally nice people. It was probably the best service I have ever had at a restaurant. The food is also excellent- I had the pulled pork. I would highly recommend! A family restaurant with excellent staff. Please go down and show it some support and you won’t leave disappointed!

Booked for sunday lunch, choice of set menu, or a la carte. We mixed and matched. Starters Tomato soup, garlic mushrooms. both delicious, served with fresh bread. Mains Steak & Kidney pie was best I've tasted in ages, Roast beef was tender, all with homemade yorkshires, fresh veg and mash + roast potatoes, extra gravy supplied as standard, we asked for extra mash, large helping supplied FOC. Puddings Apple and caramel with ice cream delicious Good hearty food, well presented, perfectly cooked. Service was friendly and helpful. We will return

Michael Oldroyd the chef here is wonderful, he makes good wholesome food, freshly cooked and is clearly passionate about his dishes. Today had neck of lamb in garlic gravy with seasonal veg and it was cooked to perfection. Not a cut I would usually have had but it was delicious. I have never had a bad meal cooked by him. The Resteraunt is always clean, the staff are friendly and helpful. This is truly a gem of a place

I tried to book a week ago but this place was booked up.so tried again but a few days earlier. Got in at 4pm Sunday. I received a phone call at 10am to say they had a leak and it blew the electrics so they could provide food only. I did not cancel. We arrived and they had done a sterling job and was able to get a pint of black sheep. I had the trio of lamb, chicken and beef and father in law fish pie and wife had pork. Meals were delicious and good value. No room for desert. Can't wait to go again. It had been 40 yes since I had been to this pub. It was great then even better now.

Visited here on a busy Friday night with 11 of my family. We had a fabulous night, with food that can only be described as “comfort food at its best”. The shin beef with Stilton was divine, and the chips were just like “proper” chips. We joked that the only thing that could improve this place was if they let you take your PJs and warmed them on the radiator for you, just like teatime at your Nans on a Saturday night, watching Blind Date and Gladiators. The food was like a historic hug; warm, comforting and familiar. Well worth a visit. Also, just have to comment on the waiting staff. They are a massive credit to this team. Well done!

We visited this restaurant on the 8th Feb Friday evening we booked over the phone for 5 30. Was lucky to get in as this is a very sortafter venue. When we got there we were greated by the chef and the wonderful staff. There was my self and my wife and our granddaughter. We all had 3 courses. And every course was perfectly presented and the staff were brilliant the food was all home made so there is a little wait between courses but we'll worth waiting for. They also have special night so when you book see what the have on there menus. The food was to die for from the starters to the sweets I would recommend this place all day long, remember to book early as this gets full very quickly.

Ate here earlier this week Hubby had 3 meat platter which he said was really tasty and I had the fish and chips. The fish was enormous and the chips were so good The portions were so large we could not manage a dessert All the staff we met were very friendly and courteous Give it a try I’m sure you won’t be disappointed

I was looking forward to trying the "nostalgic kitchen" given lots of positive reviews. We called in across lunchtime and parked in a litter strewn, almost deserted, car park. Unfortunately first impressions can affect your feelings towards an establishment so I have tried very hard to be fair and constructive. The atmosphere inside was also lacking partly due to the absence of other diners.....just one table occupied in what is a large dining area.....and partly due to dreary decor and very tired looking place mats etc. As we arrived a member of staff shouted through to the ?kitchen that "a couple have just walked in" The staff however were helpful and courteous and advised that it was unusually quiet. The menu is quite large and imaginative for pub dining and is at the pricier end of the bar meal spectrum....somewhere between pub food and restaurant prices. We did not have to wait long for th food to arrive and when it came it was hot and of very generous proportions but lacked in presentation and flavour and therefore was disappointing given all the glowing reviews on trip advisor. We will try it once more to check that we didn't go on an off night but you can only report what you find.Sorry.

Called with friends for the first time since it relocated - were not disappointed but then with Michael at the helm we knew we wouldn’t be. Three of us chose the smoked haddock in a creamy sauce - was wonderful. The fourth meal was pie of the day with gravy - I’m told it was superb. Sweets and coffee rounded off a lovely meal in a great atmosphere.

Once again outstanding meal !! We had stew, belly pork and toast dinner in our group and all were delicious!! The chef makes a point if personally speaking to his customers which is lovely and in my opinion confident that he is serving quality meals! Service was great The rest of the menu and special dishes all deserve a try The rice pudding is delightful!!! Can’t wait to go back!! What a find!!

Booked at short notice. Great menu with some unusual choices that made the final decision tough. The shin beef and Stilton was anything but tough - you could eat this with just a fork. Beautifully cooked, rich sauce. Sticky lemon sponge was as light as you like it. Chef extremely personable and made you feel genuinely welcome. First visit, will not be the last.

This place is a dream for foodies that demand provenance. Food that is sourced locally & then cooked to perfection by Michael, the chef who really knows his art. There’s no corners cut, expect your tastebuds to be taken on a timewarp. Nostalgia is exactly the word. You MUST book. The place has ‘sittings’ of two hour intervals on Sundays. The menu has a good range offered & includes a vegetarian option. Yorkshire puddings are cooked to perfection with beef dripping being the base used in the hot tins (exactly as it should be). Portion sizes are just right & again, even the ‘big eaters’ can’t complain as there’s lots to go at. Produce for the fish pies is delivered direct from the docks in the morning, immediately prepped & cooked the same day - no other word for it - just exquisite. As Michael says, you don’t look for the fish in his pies - the fish immediately finds you. This is true Yorkshire based comfort food & set in a homely vibrant pub setting. In true Yorkshire style it is open, honest, unpretentious & all together a hostelry that we feel is the epitome of classic Yorkshire fayre.
