We came back to Poppylands today after coming two years ago as remembered how wonderful it was. We drove from Lowestoft and it was well worth the drive as it is such a great place and all the staff are so genuinely friendly and helpful. The food is delicious and the little gift shop upstairs is like a treasure trove. Will definitely come back soon. The Biddiss Family.

We stumbled across Poppylands purely by accident whilst we were out cycling on holiday 2 years ago. We were looking for a cup of tea but when we walked through the door, we were taken back by the beautiful 40's decor and ambience. The collection was truly amazing. We were greeted by the owner who looked like he'd stepped straight out of the 40's too along with all his staff. The menu was 40's themed, but there was nothing wartime about the portion sizes. I had the most delicious Vera Lynn cream tea. The scone was huge and tasty with fresh clotted cream and jam. We have revisited there time and time again and never have the high standards dropped. Today we went for the Sunday carvery of which booking is highly recommended, and I can see why. The food was just like my mother used to cook and we had a proper old fashioned dessert too. It all added to bring back happy memories of my childhood. This has got to be one of my favourites eating places in Norfolk without a doubt.

Lovely staff, amazing cakes, authentic surroundings and treasure trove gift shop upstairs. If you haven't been I highly recommend paying a visit and you will return for sure x

We've driven past before but this time under recommendation we knew we were going in! The 1940's theme is fantastic and as you walk in there are a few displays which are great and then into the main cafe which again is just fantastic. We were greeted by the owner Darren with a welcome smile and asked to take a seat. We were then greeted by a lovely lady in 40's attire to take our order. The food was great and plentiful, service was second to none. All the staff were courteous and had a smile. Upstairs is also a gem with more seats and a wee gift shop. We will be going back and would highly recommend a visit to Poppylands.

My school friend and I used to come to Poppylands about 10-12 years ago when in the area with our dogs and not been since. We liked it as it was a bit quirky and nice cakes! We visited today after all these years and we wondered what it would be like now. We thought they had done a great job with the theme, keeping some of the original Poppylands feel but very tastefully done. The staff wearing period clothing was a nice touch. We had 5 dogs and they were very welcoming. The veggie breakfast was perfect, includes tea and then we followed with lovely lemon curd cake and all for £10!

Visited Poppylands today after watching the seals on nearby beach. What a fantastic place! War-themed restaurant, excellent service and friendly staff. Topped off by a lovely little gift shop where I was so pleased to find an old fashioned Robertson’s golly and a knitted tea cosy.

Such a sweet little place! So much effort has been put into the 1940’s/dads army decor, there was a great selection on the menu at reasonable prices, the staff were attentive and looked great in 1940’s gear!

Living on the doorstep and today we just stopped by for breakfast and it just reinforced our intention to drop in more often on this our local unique amazing eatery. Super breakfasts (and veggie ones too) gallons of tea and cakes to die for that we had to take home because we couldn't eat any more! Wonderful staff and a nice chat with Darren.. Best advice don't drive past or in our case don't walk past!

delicious, cute and fun. Especially appreciated the lovely waiter we had who was extremely chipper and professional. He's a real asset to the place. Afternoon tea treat for the last day of our hols . Was extremely busy so it must be a very popular eatery.

Today I had the pleasure of having lunch with my mum at Poppylands, I have to say the decor and atmosphere were fantastic and the food was just perfect! I had homemade sausage rolls with chunky chips and beans, delicious. Loved my tea cosy and enjoyed a syrup sponge pud too. I think this is a true gem and would and will highly recommend. Very attentive and pleasant staff, all made the more special with their dress. I will most definately be back as Id love to sample the afternoon teas! A massive thumbs up 👍🏻

We are from essex and were recommended poppy lands by family friends who have been here a few times. A truly nostalgic venue, part cafe/part museum/ part shop, which really makes you feel like your back in the 1940’s, excellent food and home made cakes to die for. Well worth the trip as it’s not on the beaten path and we will definitely be back again. Thank you.

It's definitely worth going out of your way to visit. I took my 88 year old mother, and she loved it. Surrounded with so many memories, she enjoyed regaling me again with her evacuee stories, too😉. Loved the fun menu and the food was good - no rationing on the amount of beef from the chosen roast👍. What I was really impressed with and wish so many more cafes and restaurants would adopt, was the 'veterans lunch menu' with smaller plate portions - it's called understanding your customers - well done!

This place is a real gem. Not only is it fully decked out in WW2 style but even the music and the menu are reminiscent of WW2 British culture. The food was tasty and service was super quick too. The staff are all lovely and fall over themselves to help you. As a bonus dogs on leads are allowed inside - we have 3 and they were very happy for us to bring them in with us. There is a lovely little shop outside where you can find fab handmade gifts too. Recommend booking the day before as it was really busy when we went - mid April, post school holidays so technically quieter part of the season. A note: I know some people have commented about them taking payment once you have placed your order. Unfortunately they have been victim of people ordering, eating and leaving without paying (what kind of people do that?!) so it’s fair enough this is the policy they have adopted. The staff were at pains to tell us this doesn’t mean they expect you to leave as soon as you have finished though.

A surprising find, and a must visit either before or after seal watching. Amazing collection of 40's memorabilia both downstairs and upstairs, with additional gift shop with loads more tea cosies (before you ask, as everyone does, they don't have any spitfire ones). Food was lovely (would probably recommend a little less batter on the calamari), and the only point (which is almost insignificant) would be to take payment either upon ordering or when people finish. Ordering, sitting down, then a minute later (before the food/drinks have arrived) someone turns up at your table with a card machine and the bill asking you whether you want to add a tip, is a bit strange/unique, but not marking anything down for that...and doesn't impact the experience. Will be back.

Wonderful 1940's themed cafe offering coffee/tea and cake or cooked breakfasts of varying sizes, lunch or afternoon tea. Delicious food, 1940's music and staff dressed appropriately for the era. We sat downstairs but there was more seating upstairs. In warmer months you can also sit outside. We went in to thaw out after a walk at Horsey Gap watching the grey seals 🦭🦭🦭. Reservations are taken and, as busy as it was on a Friday morning in February, I would advise it in summer months. I can 100% recommend the food and beverages, the staff were lovely, just an all round great experience not to be missed!

Wanted to try this place after we saw a YouTube review by "Gary Eats" and weren't disappointed. What a lovely place 😊 full of nostalgia and loved the themed background music too. Staff were friendly, and the food was tasty. Had a mooch around the gift shop outside afterwards which had some really nice items, and we came away with a "Pike" Teddy bear 😍

Great fun, war time memorabilia. friendly service, nice welcome. Dog friendly . I'd advise seating downstairs if you don't want to have to dine amongst dogs at other tables as this place,as it attracts dog walker's ,which are sat upstairs. Food is great 👍 tradition cooking & baking at its best. Generous cake portions! Would recommend.

What a brilliant homage to a wartime life style. You'll be surrounded by memorabilia of the 40's both in times of peace and war. The theme is carried inside and outside the premises with a touch of humour. Loads to learn for the young and reminisce for the elders. The food is great, plenty of choice and good potions. The service fast and efficient with a free smile. A little gift shop outside the restaurant is full of fun bibs and bobs and watch out for the UXB! Plenty of parking with a watch tower!

Brilliant place to eat. Interesting decor and superb staff. Cannot speak highly enough of Jess who went out of her way to help us in everything. Wonderful lady. Loved the kindness and fuss shown to our Border Collie who really enjoyed her sausage lunch. We will be back and if you're a dog parent we can't recommend it enough. They even have a doggie menu. Thank you so much Jess and everyone. Fabulous cider, easy to park.

Smashing place way out in the sticks on the Norfolk coast. Themed with a wartime 40’s feel, there are some interesting features and memorabilia. We had breakfast. A nice plate of food well presented the sausages were very nice. The menu states clearly there are no substitutions for items, that’s a bit mean. Also extra items are expensive and when you are served soggy fried bread and complain, no offer of if being replaced. Or offer of the item taken off the bill. We were presented with the bill before it was served. So for us disappointing but our server was helpful. Rules here it seems, must be followed.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the World War II-themed cafe/restaurant, and it was an extraordinary experience. The service was impeccable, with a staff that was not only friendly but also well-versed in the historical context, adding depth to the visit. The food was outstanding, with a menu that paid homage to the era, offering classic wartime recipes with a modern twist. The flavors were nostalgic yet uniquely delicious, and the presentation was top-notch. What truly set this establishment apart was the immersive decor and environment. From the outside props that instantly transported you to the 1940s to the interior, where the walls were adorned with an extensive collection of wartime memorabilia, it was like stepping back in time. The attention to detail was awe-inspiring, and it created an atmosphere that was both educational and deeply moving. I would highly recommend this World War II-themed cafe/restaurant to anyone looking for a dining experience that combines excellent service, delicious food, and a captivating journey through history. It's a place where the past comes alive, and you leave not just well-fed but with a greater appreciation for the sacrifices of that era.

What an amazing place, fabulous food, service and the wartime memorabilia was great. Was very busy so best to book if going for lunch. We had afternoon tea, had to be the best one I've ever had. So much food but took what was left home. The menu is set out great with some lovely dishes from the past. Not many places you can get a Spam or corned beef sandwich nowadays. Top notch every way. Will definitely be back soon.

Lovely little gem of a cafe, a proper bounce back in time, world war 2 vibes and nicely done. Tea cosies hand knitted and all different, we loved Winston! Planes on the ceiling. Great cakes (even the very modern, 1950's! recipe cherry, raspberry and coconut cake) which we loved, and a good selection from traditional recipes. Has toilets and lots of seating. Parties over 4 advised to book, particularly in winter. Little shop to take your own seal or teacosy home with you if you want!
