The French House has been on my list for a while. It's different than a regular American diner that everything is jumbo size and typical, yet everything here at the French house is exquisite. The portion, ingredients, and atmosphere will make you feel that the owner really has a good taste. Their weekend waffle is good, crispy outside soft inside. Their omelet is very flavorful and satisfying. The biscuit that comes with the omelet is something that caught my attention. Creamy buttery taste and is not dry at all. Their salad is something that I would like to try out next time. Everything here looks tempting and tasty.

They have an original recipe for chicken salad that can never be duplicated. I love it.

Cold cucumber soup with dill on a hot day hit the spot. $6 and small bowl was filling.

I’ve been going to French house for more than three decades. Great food and the atmosphere is laid back. Very old school. The demeanor of the staff could be better, but they’re always nice once you get to know them. They’re at least cordial. One or both of the owners is always there. It’s just great place all around. Plenty of parking.

A great crispy waffle, perfect over easy eggs, but as with most restaurants, bacon is baked in the oven and sits. Not the best by the time the customer receives it. This is a great neighborhood gathering for brunch. Was happy to see elderly patrons enjoying their meals.

Update 7/23/23: Still OMG AWESOME. Tried the bread pudding. Best I have ever had. THE BEST. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Update 5/21/23: STILL the best breakfast spot in Houston. Everything spot-on Excellent. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Original Review: Our new favorite breakfast place. First time here based upon high recommendations from multiple friends. The French House lives up to its stellar name and reputation. This place is THE REAL DEAL. Incredible breakfasts. INCREDIBLE. Everything spot-on excellent: Waffles: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ French Style Omelette: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Eggs, Sunnyside Up: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Biscuits: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hash browns: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bacon: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Coffee: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cleanliness and ambiance: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Owner & staff: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The breakfasts are simple but elegant. Flavors incredible. Would rank this as one of the BEST breakfasts ANYWHERE. Look forward to exploring the rest of the breakfast menu and their sandwiches, which get accolades from those in the know who just want great food without all the flashing lights and self promoting hoopla. If your ego requires a hip, trendy, razzle-dazzle, cutesie menu that holds up and stands the test of time like a 1980's "Flock of Seagulls" haircut, this is not the place for you. Summary: Understated elegance and culinary finesse. Pristine/Clean. Genuine. Honest. High quality food. It's about the food here, not the photo op. The French House is genuine and excellent. They know who they are and they are not trying to be something they are not. Rock solid. Real deal. All about the food. Sure, it looks simple but the cook on the food and the flavors separate The French House from other breakfast restaurants including old school diner fare, like Avalon as well as trendy spots like Snooze. Simply excellent. NOTEWORTHY: 1. Omelettes are French styled omelettes. More refined, more flavorful than traditional American omelettes that are filled with ingredients. MOST ENJOYABLE. A real treat. 2. Biscuits are the best we've had in Houston, EVER. Not 2nd best. THE BEST. 3. YUM to the tenth power times seven divided by one. 4. The people are awesome. Owner and his staff are super nice. Customers also friendly and acknowledge one another. Kind of like University days. Actually saw and visited with people we knew on our first visit. Enjoy!

Been coming here with my family for over 30 years. Clean, delicious and meticulous standards for quality. Plus the entire staff have been there for ages, so it says a lot about the work environment; you can tell they make everything with love. Firstly, the egg salad sandwich was delicious. The bread was fresh and toasted to perfection, and the egg salad filling was flavorful and satisfying. The fresh crisp lettuce and tomato was piled high giving the sandwich that extra crunch. My cup of cold cucumber soup was a refreshing and light addition to the meal. The soup was chilled, with a refreshing flavor that complemented the egg salad sandwich well. It was the perfect choice for a warm sunny day and left me feeling rejuvenated and satisfied. The service is also outstanding, as the owners are there running it all. They provide wide array of menu options, which includes both lunch and dinner. They open at 9am and close at 2:00 pm. Overall, I would highly recommend The French Cafe, especially if you're looking for a cozy and welcoming atmosphere with excellent service and delicious food. Their sandwiches and cold cucumber soup are two options that I would definitely recommend trying.
