I came for a working holiday. It was a great experience. So, I came for a retreat. It went well. I helped with a bit of cleaning here and there. Anyway, I want to talk about the pros and cons. Pros A pretty good community. Nice rooms for meditation. Nice Soup. Apply for working visit. Teachers available for different meditations. Meditations include lunch, evening and advanced classes. Day courses Ordained and lay living together Chanted prayers and meditation sessions are free Different types of membership (could be a pro or con) Classes can be paid for individually Cons Different teachers - need to find the one to suit your needs. Teachers, admins and coordinator roles can change, meaning that who you deal with can be different. This can be an issue because some of the volunteers may not be so professional. Can require patience at times.

This is an unusual and rather special venue to meet friends for a coffee or a light lunch. Set in beautiful gardens, the World Peace Cafe is part of Hove's Kampala Buddhist Centre and serves really fresh and wholesome dishes. Today my friend and I chose a spinach quiche which came with a variety of salads and an optional dressing. We attended a half hour meditation first, which was very restful in itself and it also meant we got a meditation-and-meal deal for £6.50 (drinks extra). The cafe is a restful place with friendly people serving and you don't get badgered about Buddhism. Customers can also park for free and get free wi-fi. There are some mean cakes too!

Came for lunch and chance to gather my thoughts. Excellent spicy tomato soup served by friendly bods. It was lovely to get away from busy streets and sit in garden reading book for a short time. Would come again.

A sanctuary to allow me to catch my breath and remind myself of the inner peacefulness within me. Love the friendly cafe staff and calming meditation classes here. The soup or the chef special in the icing on the cake for me! I am mentally and physically nurtured completely!

A beautiful peaceful place to learn meditation. Everyone is so friendly and kind and the teachings and meditations are practical and easy to implement in daily life. Wonderful news that the Centre host their popular weekend course "Worrier to Warrior" at the end of March - and guests can stay for the first time since before the pandemic!

I love this place and have been going here for years. I went here in labour as it was the place of calm I needed to be just before having my daughter. 2 days later I took my daughter to meditation in my arms and took her to mum/baby meditation then kids meditation-can't get enough of the place. The negative review of the place..it seems as though this person needs to work on him/herself a lot and understand about how Buddhism can help to alleviate stress in the modern day. The Buddhist centre is a place of calm, not a business and not a place for lots of negativity and stress. Maybe Buddha has a way of deciding who should and shouldn't be welcome.
