Excellent food and hospitality was passing through the area in our camper van phoned to ask if we could stay on their car park overnight in our camper. Can recommend the chicken liver parfait starter and gammon as a main. They have special meal deals on Monday to Friday. Will definitely visit again
Called in for a pint whilst on a long Sunday walk, food was lovely and the staff were fantastic. Even our dog got a large piece of Turkey for the walk home, well worth a visit.
Went last night for a meal, the food, service and value where really good. Totally recommend this venue. They offer early bird deals plus themed bogof each weekday!
Been a few times, it's nice in winter to sit by the fire and enjoy a nice meal, the food is lovely, highly recommend x
Lovely pub with character. There's at least one fireplace in there. Also a room devoted to pubgoers with dogs, if you are one of them, it's best to book a table as it gets busy at popular times. A few picnic benches outside, right by the road but on the southern side, if you like to feel the full power of the sun. Good selection of typical pub food and pleasant service. The pub has a parking lot for somewhere around 40 vehicles. There are quite a few walks in the area including the ones around Blackmoorfoot Reservoir (10 minutes walk from the pub, you can park along Reservoir Side Road).
The new menu is fantastic, one of the best meals our family has had in a very long time, the service was great, I wish we got the waitresses name to give her a mention as she was so polite and couldn't do enough for us! The mussels were best I've ever had,my wife and son had the ribs, wow, they were huge! Overall amazing meal, will be returning soon!
We had the beef Sunday dinner and it was lovely. All 4 of us were very happy with the food and had clear plates! We also all had dessert, chocolate fudge cake, lemon tart, apple pie and cheesecake all good! Again, clear plates! The pub is lovely too. The staff are attentive and friendly. They were also very accommodating of our dog and brought him a bowl of water. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back!
If there’s one thing that drives me mad is being served drinks which are not cold, well I have to say the diet coke I was served here was the best Ive had anywhere fantastic & cold.
Both my partner & I had Gammon, egg & chips which we could not fault crispy chips on outside fluffy inside, perfect eggs & tasty good quality gammon.
We were very happy with everything. Neither of us had been here for many years but will defiantly be going again.
Well done we really enjoyed our lunch thank you.
A typical quintessential country pub surrounded by picturesque Yorkshire landscapes. Staff are very friendly, and a decent menu with good variety food service is quick. Had Sunday lunch, which was delicious, but potatoes were a bit devilled! also a slightly wider variety of seasonable vegetables needed, however that being said, I would definitely eat there again.
Great food and great atmosphere as always. A special mention to the waitresses Drew and Emily who went above and beyond for us, you need staff like these 2 to succeed, an absolute credit to bulls head. Will definitely be returning in the future. The hot beef sandwich was perfect !
My family and friends came here for Sunday lunch and we all like the Sunday roast alot. I think it's the best Sunday roast I have had so far. Soft meat, well roasted sweet veg and the gravy is fabulous (I like thick gravy). Really enjoyed the meal and will come back. Highly recommened
Four of us came here yesterday 25/2/24 for some food and it was lovely. Gammon x 2, Lamb and bourguignon and it was all lovely. VERY attentive and friendly staff. Myself and my husband also had the camembert to start which was lovely too! The sides that we asked for was humongous! I would suggest only ordering 1 bowl of chips or onion rings to share between 2/3 people. So much for your money and lovely food. Highly recommend and will be coming back.
Great pub with the right mix of local ales, draught beers and fantastic food. On a recent visit with my other half and our 3 year old we had kids fish and chips, beef & ale pie and the local sausage and chips. Great food, friendly staff and somewhere we love to visit on a regular basis.
They do daily 2for1 specials and pies. I love their chicken pies and you can not beat their Sunday roast sirloin beef with sexy roast potatos.
After a difficult uphill walk from the Manchester road (doing physio for a recent knee operation). I was so glad to see the welcoming pub sign. It's wasn't open yet (which was also a bonus as we could rest for 10 minutes). Lol After a very friendly welcome, drinks served and food arrived swiftly. Proper home cooked, fresh, tasty and hearty food. We both ordered the Hot Roast Beef sandwich and chips! Perfect fuel for my walk back home! Superb and well recommended guys!
I drive past this place everyday to go to work never actually been in until now and I’ve lived here for a while
Food was miles better than i expected for pub food can not fault it we had salmon. Menu’s lack information, not sure what the Yorkshire pudding was doing on my plate but kinda worked i guess
When it comes to drinks we asked for Coke each and got Pepsi Max which tasted like Rola Cola
Chairs where wobbly had to switch chairs to find a more sturdier one
I’m not going to let that ruin my experience we had a nice short stay. Classic Yorkshire pub, proper warm and cozy environment very friendly staff, Chefs know how to cook not microwave bandits food tasted fresh and nice presentation, pictures don’t do it justice. Never went upstairs will explore there next time
Huge car park opposite the building on other side of the road no problem there
Prices are alright £30 it cost us for 2 main dishes and 2 drinks
Would recommend!

Nice food and nice pub, staff were friendly and patient as it was a Monday and we didn't realise it was earlier close.
Went with family for a Sunday lunch and found this beautiful place food was amazing and we managed to fit in dessert to. Amazing
Enjoyed a very good post-Christmas lunch with my son and daughter. The three of us all enjoyed the meal. Congratulations to all the staff!
After a walk around Blackmoorfoot Reservoir we had lunch and the daily BOGOF menu was great value, Tuesday was pie and chips delicious . Highly recommended.
This venue is very good for local cooked food in the Huddersfield area. It is a bit of a distance from the town centre but the food quality is of a high standard. They also have a good menu and a two for one deal most nights. Highly recommended. It is advisable too, to call the pub and book before you visit.
We have been twice now, as only recently moved into Meltham nearby. Both times food was brilliant and the service (Eleanor/Helena) has been excellent. Today was particularly good. My wife and kids had sunday roast- salmon and beef respectively - and I had the chicken and mushroom pie; was unreal.
Dessert was pancakes and chocolate for my boy (won't go into why my daughter didn't get a pudding, you can probably guess :) ) and me and my wife had after eight cheesecake with salted caramel ice cream - I know, read that back. Tasted as good it sounds.
