Popped into the Strickland Arms on the off chance they had a table and so glad they did! Overall very welcoming with good service in a real country pub!
We all enjoyed a hearty meal of either scampi, lamb hotpot or a GF fish finger sandwich (wish I had gone for the fish and chips as it looked immense!)
Located close to the entrance of Sizergh Castle with good sized car park and is dog friendly.

Popular country pub that offers a traditional menu in a comfortable dining area. We had pie of the day which was turkey and cranberry. It was tasty but a bit pastry heavy. The small fish and chips was a good size so don't choose large unless you have the appetite to match. Although I didn't feel like the initial mine host was very enthusiastic about us arriving without a prior booking the waiting staff were extremely friendly and helpful, even noting my plea for large mushy peas with the small fish. The pub filled up during our meal and lots of people seemed to know the staff which gave it a friendly local vibe without making visitors feel uncomfortable. Definitely worth a visit, it's on a walking route too.

Lovely traditional Cumbrian pub serving lots of local beers & spirits, particularly local ‘Cumbria/Lake District’ Gins.
There was A beer festival this weekend offering a good range of real ales & live music.
Good selection of outside seating on patio or in the garden area.
Dogs welcome inside & out.
Helpful & friendly staff.
Every time we’ve eaten here we’ve had a lovely meal, great selection of delicious dishes on offer.

One of the best pubs on the A590 without a doubt. Cracking menu, lovely staff. We phone up to get in on busy nights after being turned away time and time again by other places and the Strickland never lets us down.
Top quality, much appreciated, we're locals and we love the Strickland. Get in for some proper food and drink.

It’s been a while since I’ve left a review for this place.
My favourite place for a Sunday roast (and i’ve sampled loads)
Staff are always lovely, service is always prompt. really reasonable prices.
Great for dogs too..
There’s no option to recommend the starter from the list below but they’re all amazing!
Can’t recommend highly enough.

A great local spot. The food is really tasty and service very chilled but attentive. We had booked for an early evening dinner, asking them to keep roasts aside. Was really happy about that.

The Strickland arms was a lovely, busy place on Easter Sunday. All the grandkids had a great time playing in the enclosed garden, climbing trees and running around. Although the pub was busy we didn't have to wait long for our food which was lovely! Will definitely call again when we are up that way.

Beautiful historical building serves the most delicious Sunday roast ive ever had anywhere. Delicious beef in plentiful amounts and giant yorkshire puds, served with plenty of veg and roast and mash potatoes.
Service was fantastic and pleasant.
Will certainly be back and highly recommend.

This is only our second time to The Strickland Arms and we weren't disappointed!
Despite having a large party and the bar full to capacity, our waitress managed to find us a table upstairs. We were even offered a table downstairs when one came available.
Delicious food and excellent service. We'll be back 😍 Thanks so much!

I will start by saying the place looks run down, but I think it gives a mysterious look and I loved it. We were heading to Sizergh when we saw the place by accident and decided to stop and eat. They have a good size parking and many outdoor and indoor dining areas. Even if the service wasn’t 5🌟 and is not something I would have expected anyway, because at the end of the day we are all humans and some days are better than others, there was one thing that impressed me, the food! Had the best chicken sandwich and sweet potato, coconut & chilli soup and I mean it, the best. The menu is not impressive with a limited selection of food, but believe me, anything you will choose will give you a different perspective of good food and what to expect in the future when eating out. Will definitely go back.

Popped in for a Sunday Lunch, I had the Beef, Partner had the Lamb, food was cooked perfectly and the portion size was generous.
Great selection of drinks available, great service, will definitely stop by again.

Possibly the finest steak pie anywhere. Service has always been very good. Always drop in here for a meal when staying at the local caravan and motorhome club site and always have the steak pie. Coming again at the end of May and cannot wait to return. Better not run out of the steak pie!

Stopped here for Sunday lunch on our way back from the lakes. The service was superb plenty of staff on to deal with everyone. I had the lamb Sunday roast which was amazing lots of lamb, all elements cooked perfect. My partner she had the hake Kiev which was beautiful and really well presented. A perfect end to a lovely vacation.

Ok generally. If you like to tip staff there is a box at reception so Beware of hidden service charge as well !!
Poor reception by supervisor of the day. Had a baby with us on cold wet day and arrived early to have a drink and get warm before lunch booking, to be told we'd have to come back nearer the time! Venue was dim/dull, food and table service excellent. Not sure about another visit though.

Called into the Strickland Arms for lunch. Good food and service. Mid-week visit, so not too busy. Sandwich and soup combo was good value for money. Would return.

Cheese pie was amazing. Beer was well kept. We were upstairs which was a little quieter.

I popped into The Strickland Arms for a quick pint and ended up feeling like I was an extra in an episode of Game of Thrones. The place oozes history and charm, not to mention they've got some seriously good ales waiting to be guzzled. A definite must-visit if you're looking for some ye olde fun without breaking your coin purse!

We have been the the Strickland Arms quite a few times now, on different days of the week and at different times of year too. The menu never changes, its printed out on sheets of A4 paper that are all mixed up, creased and dirty. The food is nicely cooked, but lacking in choice. If you like chips with your food go elsewhere they are counted onto your plate. 9 chips for a burger and 7 chips for fish because that is the length of the fish, so you get 7 chips with the fish on top. not very appetizing when they bring a nearly empty plate. Be prepared for the prices when all said and done it is a pub with not a great choice of food, but the prices are restaurant prices. If you are expecting to call in for a few drinks be prepared not to be able to stay, you will be expected to drink up and go after one drink because you are taking up a table. The strickland only wants eaters to stay inside, however you also have to eat and go. Despite the money that the pub must take the toilets are a disgrace. There are not toilet roll holders so the loo roll is on the floor next to the loo usually in some water. There is only one working toilet in the ladies. The light does not work so if someone is in the only cubicle you have to stand in the dark until they open the door when they have finished. You also won't be able to check your good looks in the mirrors because they are only the size of a large tile and are nowhere near eye level. From the outside it looks like a great country pub. On first impressions of walking in, it looks like a great country pub, with stone floors and a nice fire but that is were the warm welcome ends. As I say it is eat drink and go, someone else wants you table.

Had a fantastic meal with my wife and son while on holiday in levens Cumbria. The staff were very friendly and the Cumbria county side was stunning. The food was absolutely delicious if a little pricey for lunch. But would highly recommend a visit to the Strickland arms.

Can't believe we haven't eaten here before with us only living a few miles away! The food was absolutely delicious, couldn't fault it and the staff were courteous and obliging. We will definitely be returning sooner rather than later.

After a long drive from Cornwall last Wednesday evening we received a very warm welcome from two young women, they were very busy and remained attentive and friendly throughout. Thank you! The atmosphere is perfect in a beautiful old building. The food was awesome (hotpot) and just the whole experience left us buzzing. Congratulations on great service and very happy and professional staff. It was the first night of our honeymoon and we wouldn't hesitate to come again.

I firstly want to point out I am never one to complain however when you massively get it wrong or the service is amazing you need to comment. We have just been to the Strickland arms and I must say I'm shocked at both the service and the staff. Rude and unhelpful spring to mind. After been passed over at the bar four times by a very inexperienced member of staff we eventually ordered our drinks, found a table to watch a random dog wandering around eating off of the floor and to listen to a waitress ask if a couple who had just finished their starters wanted to see the desert menu, mind boggling. Most of the tables were reserved and ours was for 6pm, however it was after this time and a couple had just left so we thought we should be ok. We were asked if we wanted to order food but were not ready so carried on with our drinks. After deciding that we didn't fancy anything we were then advised by the same gentleman who had asked if we wanted to order, that if we hadn't booked we couldn't sit there as it was reserved we decided to finish our drinks and leave. Trying to pay created another problem as no one wanted to take our money choosing to once again serve customers who pushed in. In the end I stopped someone and pointed out we had been waiting 10 minutes to pay and did they want to take our money. Both me and my husband work in jobs that revolve around customer service and needless to say we felt let down and will most definitely not be coming back any time soon. A 5 minute drive found us at the Masons Arms where the staff and the service are polar opposites. On this occasion we were happy to drive further away from home to be treated better.
Being local we have used the Strickland Arms on numerous occasions in the past, after today, we won't be in a rush to return. Shame considering we live less than 5 miles away.

Lovely country pub. Great ales and nice beer garden sat in the sun. Food looked fabulous and very busy for it.
