Just stopped off for something to eat After an unexpected walk around Derwentwater. What a gem of a place. Great home cooked food, lovey views and friendly staff. Forget the overpriced, fancy place around the corner. If you want real food at a decent price come here 👍
Superb homely food that is top quality, big portions, reasonably priced and the staff are great too. Its a win win people. A regular stop off point for me and the Mrs when we are in the area.
Ann & I visited this excellent cafe & marine centre this morning for the first time this season. I think the winter weather has been a bit off-putting this year - or perhaps we're just getting soft! Anyway, I thoroughly recommend the place, for boat hire as well as excellent coffee & enormous, very tasty scones. From their jetty, you can also get a connecting boat for the excellent Keswick Launch, a great service for getting around lovely Derwentwater.
Nice food very welcoming staff been a few times never had bad food dogs welcome scones to die for
We missed the last sailing back to keswick as the rude man wouldn’t wait 2minutes so ended up in the cafe for a cuppa before our walk back. The scones, WOW, huge, very tasty. Anyhow we just happened to mention we had missed the sailing back & the very kind owner said no problem I’ll take you. Fantastic, we got to eat scone, got a private sailing back to keswick with a history lesson included. Businesses like this deserve a huge shout out for going above and beyond.
We love Nichol End - fantastic people, delicious food, plenty of watersports, excellent instructors, glorious views. It is our favourite place in the Lakes!
Can't rate highly enough! My daughter had a class end of year / leavers from yr 6 activity afternoon this afternoon. All the kids had a wonderful day out! They did 45 mins on the catamaran and 45 in kayaks, then a picnic. My daughter Katie is a bit of a handful, she has special needs and learning difficulties. I asked one of the instructors to keep a special eye on her, - they could not have been more understanding but subtle and naturally supportive. The instinctive and relaxed way they dealt with me and my special girl was exactly perfect for us. Many thanks, we will return
Jenny
We had a fab afternoon here on the kayaks, staff are really helpful and friendly.
This is our second visit and I'm sure we will be back again, recommend a visit to anyone!
Just had a lovely few hours out on a Canadian canoe with my husband here...such a lovely place amazing views.I forgot to get the guys name who served us and showed us round but what a lovely helpful man he was.Even enjoyed a lovely coffee and brownie after.Cant wait to come back and bring the kids in half term
Perfect end to a walk with the best pizza (proper ingredients - chunks of real chicken and ham) and luxury hot chocolate. Amazing views across the lake.
Great cake, great service, great shop with some really good offers. Staff are always really helpful. Cracking view across Derwent water towards Keswick.
Great cafe, gluten free sausages available on the breakfast. Soya milk available for the coffee. Great service.
Thank you for helping us to have a fantastic time on the kayaks this morning. My three children gained so much from a few hours. Learning new skills, facing and overcoming challenges, building confidence, problem solving, determination. A great resilience builder. Thank you. Can't wait to comeback.
We had an excellent time on Saturday, thanks so much. The staff were very helpful and fun, the equipment was great and the pizzas were superb as ever. We always enjoy our visits to Nichol End.
Wonderful place, friendly staff and expert tuition. Loved my windsurfing session this morning. Thank you so much, it was awesome!
Fantastic value for money and very friendly staff. Looking forward to a return visit.
Many thanks to Roger for taking us back across the lake in his motor boat when the Keswick launch was late this afternoon. Amanda was chuffed to be classed as Crew for handling the mooring rope. Cheers Roger!
Best scones in the area along with a nice pot of tea
Fantastic place. Great food, friendly helpful staff, great tuition
Had an absolute awesome day windsurfing and kayaking all staff are extremely friendly and helpful, will be definitely going again
Great place to go and friendly staff ,you should try a scone if you ever go in the cafe
Staff are always so friendly & we love taking our girls out on this beautiful lake (or rather water). 👍
Thank you for a fantastic weekend. Can't wait to come back. Lovely people, great fun and the food was delicious. Highly recommended.
Stunning morning kayaking, followed by huge cherry scone, jam & cream, nothing better.
Always friendly and happy to help. Quality and plentiful stock of watercraft to hire. Never had to wait even at busy times. Excellent cafe is a bonus too!!
Enjoyed every minute of kayaking on the lake. The staff were very helpful and I managed to book the kayak on arrival (I'd recommend booking online in advance as it gets busy but I went at 10am and there was space) They provided everything I needed including a dry bag. Would highly recommend. Also don't forget to visit the cafe, amazing chocolate scones!
Brilliant experience out on the lake during our camping holiday. We wanted to take the kids kayaking last year as it's something we haven't done as a family but we didn't get the weather. This year, we got lucky with a sunny day so we quickly booked 2 Kayaks.
The marine has plenty of parking and is in a great location. Quick change, watch the safety video and off you go. We had great fun exploring Derwent from the Kayaks.
Special mention to the cafe which sell amazing cakes and scones. As others have said, it's worth a visit on its own as the cakes are incredible 👍.
Great experience and a lovely way to create some lasting memories as a family.
We hired the monster paddle board from nichol end this weekend. Brilliant experience from start to finish, booking was easy, the welcome we got on arrival was warm and friendly, the safety info and briefing was spot on. We had friends with us who were staying at the marine while we were out on the lake- they got a really friendly welcome in the cafe too. The staff even came out onto the lake to check in on us, and ensured we had the best time.
Highly recommend!
We absolutely loved experience with Nichol End Marine. We hired two paddle boards for three hours, we never tried it before, and we loved it so much, so we returned two days later and hired a kayak this time for four hours.
Nichol End Marine - good prices, wet suits and water proof bag are included in the price (and this helps saving money if you need more than one). We hired two single boards, but were offered wet suits for whole family of four.
Friendly staff, a young girl was very helpful with setting us up on water.
What a great location to enter the water. We chose kayaks but there are other options available. The staff were friendly and helpful. We all watched the 4 minute safety video and then we were on our way into the water. We're not experienced but we were given everything we needed to have a fun filled safe time.
So easy to get kitted and in the water. Our dog was no bother. We had a great time kayaking around the little islands and stopped on one for lunch before paddling back. Changing rooms great and coffee and cake delicious. Best of all were the friendly staff!
Some places deserve 6 stars and this is one of them.
The staff were amazing and well friendly despite being run off their feet. Roger was hilarious and kept my young lad in splits while rigging our Wayfarer dinghy rental.
The location is superb as it’s not far from the town but has a host of islands within east reach of a stand up paddle-board, kayak, canoe and sailboat.
But the 6th star is the cafe. It’s worth a visit just for the variety of scones alone.
We visited here to hire paddle boards for an hour.
We had two boards, the first with just me on it, the second with my wife and daughter.
Wetsuit, boards and paddles included. The staff were lovely and friendly and gave us some pointers about controlling the board as well as confirming where and where not to go on the lake. They were also very open to questions that we had before setting us off for our hour of bliss!
Wonderful experience. We have tried kayaking for a very first time and loved it. The only thing in our experience for beginners with small children, we would recommend 2 hours kayaking is more than enough.
The most amazing scones and hot chocolate ever with lovely friendly service and an excellent time paddleboarding
