My first visit and was glad to see it was a sizzling pub as my local one closed and changed hands a few years ago, so I had the chance of ordering my favourite mixed grill.
They only told me about the longish wait for food after ordering but it was worth the wait and no mistake.
My girlfriend had the tikka curry and said the same.
For chain pub food I honestly think Sizzling pubs are a cut above with quality and value but the National excelled.
My only moan was the lack of a cask beer on my visit but a reasonably priced bottle of Newcastle's finest was a decent substitute.
We will certainly return if they'll have us back.

We had a small wedding and booked the National for us and our 20+ guests. We all had a meal and drinks. This was arranged through Emily who went above beyond to make it special, even though we told her that we really didn't want a fuss. She really is a credit to your company, nothing was too much bother for her and she even decorated the area in which we were sitting. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food, there were no complaints and an amazing day was had by us all. Thank you to the Emily and the rest of the staff for helping to make our special day one we will remember forever

It's a nice cosy family pub. Everything you'd want for an evening meal out, when you don't want to cook it do the washing up just to be told they don't like it! š
Ample choice for all types of eaters and what you would expect from a sizzling pub. Do your self a favour, and get the app. There's some cracking deals on it, that make it even better value for money.

Went to the National today for lunch. Fantastic food and fantastic value! The staff on were amazing and the food was fresh and came out in good time. I had the jerk chicken skewers and they were delicious. Nice to see a good range of fruit ciders to choose from. 5**** canāt recommend it enough! Thank you!

I went with my girls over the weekend. Not only was the food excellent, the chef who brought it, Dave, I believe. Took the time to talk with my littlle girls. He was even able to convinced them to try a pea. Something, I have never being able to do.
That said all the staff were fantastic. The bar manager (Stu I heard him being called) had a giggle with my little girls. Asking if they were old enough to drink fruit shoots. Then proceeded to make them laugh more.
Because of this my girls have asked to eat there again next weekend. Because "of the bar man that made them laugh".
It's a very friendly, and inviting pub. Would recommend to friends and family.

Been coming here for years and always been welcomed to a warm environment. The food is great and the staff service is second to none. Thoroughly suggest any passer-by to pop in for a cold one.

Massive thank you to Anna behind the bar and Danielle in the kitchen! My partner and I are staying not far from here on our holidays and popped in for lunchā¦ the pub is super clean and tidy, the food was served quick and hot and there is also plenty of parking! Thank you againš„¹

Staff very polite and knowledgeable about my dietary needs. Great service as we only waited a few minutes to be served. Elly and Sam were serving and the chef Dale went the extra mile to cater for my gluten free meal. He makes the best Eton Mess

All the food was lovely and hot when served to our table. Staff were friendly, smiley and helpful. Will return for another meal at some point.

Went for Xmas Dinner. Had a booking for 3pm. Pre-ordered food from menu which they got wrong (not really a drama at this point). Then food arrived, starters were fine. Main course of traditional Xmas dinner was terrible. Very undercooked vegetables, very dry turkey. Father ordered a steak, which was supposed to be āmediumā and it was totally cremated. Halfway through eating the main course, the waitress asked if it was āok to bring out the desertsā!!!!
Just as deserts were served last orders was rung at the bar. Was then told by staff at the bar whilst trying to get a drink that customers were there by choice, and the staff had to be there.
Son asked where the loo was (it was the first time heād been in National), and was told by bar staff he couldnāt use the loo as they (the pub) was closed.
At Ā£33.99 per adult (5) and Ā£16.99 per child (2), it was absolutely diabolical and put a right dampener on our Xmas Day.
Will never return to āour localā again.

Poor food, awful service, good pint. A group of us went for a family birthday meal tonight and frankly it was sub standard. Whilst priced competitively, most of the food is reheated from frozen possibly with exception of the meat grills.
We ordered adult meals and two kids meals - the kids meals come with drink and pudding, so we ordered the meals but were not asked when giving the options for the kids meals what drink or pudding we wanted. When I returned to the bar to ask about drinks I was told it wasnāt possible to ring them back through and therefore would have to pay for them. I accepted this could have been our mistake and paid for kids drinks.
Food arrived and was as follows:
Mega mixed grill - meat cooked as ordered and was enjoyed by the person eating it.
BBQ hunters chicken - chicken dry, and chips tasted of old cooking oil. Also ordered a side of cheesy garlic bread which was soggy like it was reheated from frozen and therefore didnāt get eaten.
Lentil cottage pie - ordered two, they arrived in a bowl looking like a 4 year old had put them in there. No sign of mash as it was mixed in the middle, obviously due to it being decanted from a microwave container. One of the dishes arrived with a gravy pot and butter for the potatoes (as advertised on the menu), the other arrived with no gravy or butter and had to be requested afterwards.
Backyard burger - dry and not enjoyed.
Sweet potato dhansak - meant to come with onion & tomato salsa and mango chutney but arrived with neither. When requested the waitress disappeared for 5 Mins, came back with a small pot of diced red onion and tomato (no seasoning, no herbs, no anything, literally just a quick bit of chopped raw red onion and tomato) and was told no mango chutney available. Naan bread very chewy and mass manufactured. Curry was bland and premade frozen.
Kids road in the hole - two aunt Bessie style frozen Yorkshire puddings with two anaemic looking sausages placed inside. Corn on the cob quite hard. Chips tasted of old cooking fat
Kids chicken nuggets - ok but again chips tasting of oil that needed changing.
We then returned to the bar to order the kids desserts and was told that we should have ordered them when we ordered the rest of the meal and it couldnāt be rung through. I questioned this, as we were never asked what we wanted for dessert when we placed the mains order and said Iāve never known anywhere where you have to order the dessert at the start. The member of staff became quite defensive and insistent that it stipulated on the menu we had to order at the start. I looked at the menu in front of him and absolutely nowhere did it stipulate that. The desserts werenāt overly expensive but after paying extra for drinks I wasnāt prepared to pay extra for dessert too. He skulked off without saying a word more and sent another guy through who eventually sorted it out for us. We ordered two desserts off the adult menu as well as two choc chip cookies as part of the meal deal from the kids dessert menu (ordered cookies as they didnāt have the desserts the kids actually wanted). The adult menu desserts (a mint aero sundae and a microwaved treacle sponge with custard, both of which were enjoyed by the people who had them) arrived but ten minutes later we had to ask for the cookies which came after a few mins more and were in sealed plastic packets. The cookies were only 69p each on the menu, but if I hadnāt asked they wouldnāt have arrived at all - which is poor considering we had to complain to even get them in the first place (as per what weād paid for)
We ordered two cocktails which werenāt great or presented with any care.
The pints of beer we had were good.
I like the National for a drink and will go back for that, but this is the second chance weāve given it for food (first time disappointed also) but after the poor quality food and the abject service I wouldnāt ever go back for food.

Had lunch at the national , Wednesday, really enjoyed the experience , staff were friendly , food was great , found it good value for money. When we were seated at the table , I asked the lady from behind the bar if the music could be turned down , without hesitation she said no problem and it was turned down immediately, will be visiting again, next time we are that side of town

The National is the closest pub to my workplace and so I often visit for lunch. It was recently refurbished and now looks a lot better. They have some very nice food, portions are usually massive and very well priced. The food has always been really nice when ever I have eaten there and I would certainly recommend to anyone. The pub is split into 2 areas, the lounge and the bar meaning that you can have a quiet meal without having to worry about being hit with a pool cue!
They usually only show sports in the bar area and so the lounge is nice if you dont want to watch te football every time you go into a pub.
