The pedestrian centre of Hull, Queen Victoria's statue dominates, surrounded as she is by three trident yielding maidens. The Monarch looks less than amused at the collapse of her empire. The remnants are impressive, though. Behind her is the Town Hall, its facade is wrought in yellow sandstone. Roman columns decorate the grand entrance recalling another empire gone but not forgotten.
Lots going on for Charlie 3. Ferens art gallery one side magnificent town hall in the middle.
Queen Victoria Square is in the center of Hull. It is raised up with seating round it giving a slightly elevated view of the city centre. Statue of Queen Victoria was designed in 1903 there are statues and carvings around the plinth. On one side is the Maritime Museum and excellent Museum showing the fishing and whaling heritage of the city. Opposite the museum is the city hall which is used for concerts and events. On the other side of the square is the ferrens art gallery both museums are free admission. In the summer there are dancing fountains coming out from the pavement. Ample seating too.
Loved it here, such beautiful scenery and it has a great atmosphere.
Went to see the poppies on the City Hall and Ferens Art gallery. They looked amazing with the water jets in the square all different colours a shame about the hoarding around the Town Docks museum, but the rest of the area was wonderful.
