Fretwells only been open for a couple of years in the former Printworks of the same name. The owner has done a fantastic job of making a new pub look at though it's 200 years old. This is a proper three room pub like pubs used to be. A nice spacious bar with views over scale Lane and High Street. Separate Lounge and an excellent separate games room, with five pinball machines, a table football games and a rare 1920's bar billiards table, with a qr code so you can keep score with an app on your phone, And a Internet jukebox in the games room. Excellent often changing good choice of cask conditioned ales and other beers including a very nice elderflower larger, very Friendly staff. Not dog friendly. Outside seating area in the courtyard. Pensioners take your bus pass and you will get a discount on your beer. Highly recommended.

Apparently this pub has been open for four years First time I have noticed it though a bit tucked away at the end of Scale Lane It’s friendly and it’s decorated as if it’s an old pub that’s been there ages. Anyway I visited with a friend (we are both retired) and we stayed and had a few beers and there was a decent choice of real ales. Also as a bonus if you are over 65 ….which we both are 😆 You get a 20% discount which I have never seen at any pub before We will visit again for sure…👍
