After many months of trying to book a table and failing, we finally got in and now understand why this place is so popular. The food was incredible and beautifully presented. The service was fabulous and the place had a great vibe. We had the Dragon Roll, soft shell crab roll and tempura soba (amongst other delights).... everything was mouth wateringly outstanding. Booking again soon!p

Best sushi outside London. Fact. Eaten at many top restaurants in London, finally I find one to match the quality and freshness without having to travel into town.

Sushi is one of my favourite foods and I have been very lucky to try it in some of the best places from Tokyo to New York. This place is amazing and definitely up there amongst the beat places I have eaten Japanese food. Service was great, food was incredible. If you like Japanese food you’ve got to give this place a try

I'm afraid that I didn't get as far as being served here- I was so shocked at the rudeness of the service I felt it a must to review the restaurant as this is a key aspect for me. As a restaurant fanatic who sometimes eats as a solo diner, I've seen a real improvement in the last 10 years of the accommodations made for those eating alone. But Obon's staff seemed to find it funny and went out of their way to ignore me. They gave me a table in the corner, took away the cutlery from the outward facing seat so I could only face the wall and then proceeded not to serve me for almost 20 minutes. They served others before me, pointedly prioritising families and it was when I looked up to see the chefs behind the counter laughing (whether about this or something else I'm not sure) that I walked out. I was really disappointed and surprised and can't see myself returning sadly.

My partner and I had dinner at Obon for the very first time one weekday evening. We particularly enjoyed the Toro nigiri which was generously portioned and was soft like butter in your mouth. An intimate venue. The service was quick and polite. This is more of a place you go to for a special occasion.

Incredible food all around. I've been here a number of times and I've never had a bad dish. Definitely the best restaurant in Kingston.

Very fresh and the best sushi. Just need to book the table in advance. Great place to go with a family and friends

I was in Kingston for a couple of days and ate there in both days. Very friendly staff, amazing sushi and small comfortable vibe. Highly recommend even making the trip from London to eat here!

If you scored sashimi or sushi from high street shops out of 10 they would score a 1 in comparison to Obon which is knocking on the door of 11

Hard to fault the authentic Japanese cuisine which was delicious, however not inexpensive and better value for money can be found elsewhere, such as Eat Tokyo in central London. A family of three not eating much in particular the bill for lunch (drinks were a bottle of water and an apple juice) including service came to £73.

My Portuguese foodie friend has been going on about this place for two years before I found an excuse to visit. It was everything that he and everyone else reviewing it says. Fresh, vibrant, interesting... everything was delicious and reasonably priced. Reservations are usually required.

Best sushi in West London, fresh, melting in your mouth! Reasanably priced, worth every penny. This is my local restaurant and I’ve been in the restaurant around 5 times now and I’ll be coming back again and again.

Went here on a Saturday evening; two adults and an energetic two year old. All the staff were really friendly and welcoming of us and baby! Food was very good, kitchen is open and on full view and the meal for three with some Sake came in at less than £70. You should go here :-)

We came here after being let down by another local Japanese restaurant and it was a blessing in disguise. It was for my son's 19 year old birthday, attended by his sister and mum. When I was looking for a place to park, the family had already ordered. Parking on Gibbon Rd is free after 6.30pm or you can park in Sainsbury for 2 hrs but might need to shop there. We had enamae, a sushi platter and a sala to start. The salad dressing was to die for and the tuna sashimi in particular was the best I have had for a long time. In fact, the fish was very fresh and bursting with colour. The unagi (eel) rice, my favourite, was very tasty and the chirashi was again very good. I had a bottle of cold saki to myself as the 2 person set included it and the family doesn't really drink. We ordered the spicy tuna roll, soft shell crab roll and the birthday boy had a ikura nigiri . The meal was finished off with green tea and sesame seed ice cream. It is a small restaurant and full. You can tell the staff put a lot of effort in delivering a good quality meal. It came to around £35 pH and I definitely would come back.

After visiting Sushi Samba in Covent Garden spending 110 pound on three dishes, a couple of drinks and being seriously disappointed this place was a revelation. It beat them into the ground. Beautiful freshly cooked food. Fabulous service. Fabulous price we had countless dishes and several drinks for a fraction of sushi sambas price. Highly recommended

The place is small, unique and meaningful. The couple take great pride in their work and it shows. A wonderful fresh, delicately made and refreshing homely meal. Book in advance if you can. Be patient, because good things come to those that wait.

Wow..I loved everything in this small restaurant . I have been welcomed with my 6 months old baby without booking, they made space for us and the high chair. The staff is friendly and sweet. The atmosphere is relaxed and quiet. Most important the fish is fresh and delicious. It is a shame I live far because it became my favourite sushi place.

Best sushi in West London, fresh, melting in your mouth! Reasanably priced, worth every penny. I’ve been in the restaurant twice and I’ll be coming back this week again and I’m so looking forward. The only thing that could be improved - the extraction from the fried food, it can get a bit foggy and smelly from all the frying. This does not stand in the way of a delicious meal, so I’m very confident with my 5 star rating!
