Top class food. Spoilt for choice menu and specials. I had the Lamb shank and it was cooked perfectly, tender yet off the bone and delicious. I chose potatoes and veg and it came with gravy. All exquisite for an unbelievable good price. The house Merlot went down well. Good service, nice people. Definitely coming here again. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone. We were also allowed to take our very well behaved Golden Retriever into the bar where she laid under our table out of the way like the great dog she is.

A group of 12 went here (6 adults 6 kids) and it was Beautiful food and a lot of it. Great bistro pub with a nice atmosphere and set in a stunning location. I had Lamb Shank which fell off the bone and tasted amazing. My wife had the Trout and it was as good as anything you would get in an upmarket City restaurant. The kids had build your own burgers and were beautiful. Can't recommend highly enough and ideal if you are staying at Hillside Campsite

I have just returned from celebrating a milestone birthday at the Dog and Gun Knayton. From arrival till leaving, the experience was one that will never be forgotten by me. Unforgettable, that's what you are ! The service was excellent, the food awesome, the atmosphere welcoming. Tried hard to find fault, found zilch. I would greatly recommend this amazing pub to anyone who wishes to experience the ultimate in excellent food and service complete with genuine smiles and warm welcome from hosts and staff. Thanks ever so much Dog and Gun. Compliments to the 'bestest' chef ever

If I could give this place 10/5 I would! Went for a drink on the Saturday night and asked if we could book for Sunday lunch the next day, the lady very kindly went out of her way to book us in, even though they were full, even took our order to ensure what we wanted wouldn't have ran out. I can tell you it was one of the best meals I've ever had, definitely the best Sunday lunch out I've ever had. I don't usually leave reviews but feel strongly that people should know just how good this gem of a place is. It was just down the road from our caravan park and isn't no1 on trip advisor for nothing. It really is that good... no really, it is! And being my birthday they even brought me a sparkler on my cheese and biscuits! I really wish this was my local. Well done on amazing place, hope we will back. Thank you all again

We've been several times for family birthdays, the service, food and atmosphere all fantastic! The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful! We have a big family and we booked the snug room, we always have a nice time there and there's never been a complaint about anything! We would definitely recommend it!

Absolutely top class meal in here last Wednesday night, beautifully cooked local produce, very friendly service. Definitely one of the top 10 pubs in the north! We will be back thanks.

This was a 5* pub with a 5* meal. However, one thing really got me when we received the bill... The pub is a nice local, pleasant inside and the beer (northern and using a sparkler) was great - copper dragon brewery. We ordered Sunday roasts and the food was excellent - see photos. Service was on point and drinks orders taken quickly followed by food orders, which is as you'd want it to be. Unfortunately, the whole meal had a shine taken from it as I saw that the 4 pints and 2 halves we ordered were billed at £4 a pint and £2.15 a half... I may be over the top with this reaction, but charging more for 2 halves than a pint is criminal and that mentality - for 30p - is not how I want to remember this pub, but it is. A shame as this should have been a clean 5* visit.

We had a lovely time here for my husband’s 50th birthday. The pub atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming and the decor is lovely. We had the ‘build a burger’ option which was absolutely delicious as were the puddings we had and the sparkly candle for Gareth’s birthday was a lovely touch! Would highly recommend and we look forward to coming back soon.

So refreshing to find a pub in North Yorkshire that does vegan food so well! You can tell there is a lot of thought and effort that has gone into planning the recipes and preparing them. Staff take the time to explain the vegan alternatives and how things have been prepared. So many vegan options to select from and the presentation of the food was amazing. Staff were incredibly attentive and warm. Would 100% recommend if you have dietary requirements. Sadly a lot of pubs I’ve tried in North Yorkshire seem to do a half arsed effort on vegan food and even mentioning the word “vegan” gets peoples back up. Not here ! I felt immediately welcome and was delighted to learn that the chef herself is a vegan! Can’t wait to come back for more!

Best place to come if you are vegetarian or vegan so many different options to choose from, shows a pub who is changing with time. But if you are a meat lover, you are also spoiled for choice. 🙂 Couldnt fault the Food and the service was excellent, Extremely friendly staff. One recommendation to the chef: try wrapping Vegan Fish in seaweed or use vegan fish sauce in the batter to give it the sea flavour 😋

The service was a bit slow as I didn't necessarily have time, but was very friendly. The food was great, especially the orange brownie. But the cappuccino really amazed me. The presentation was awesome, and it was very good. Overall I didn't expect pub food to be that great. A really good surprise.

Amazing pub, incredible service and the food was amazing. The chap serving us was incredibly friendly and made us feel welcome as soon as we stepped through the door. Food served through the day as generally Panini type sandwiches and chips. However, on an evening they do save up to 9 pm on their normal menu.

Smart, clean well run dog freindly pub using local ingredients producing great food. Close to A19 . Sunday Lunches are amazing (slow cooked meat for tenderness and flavour) . Build you own burgers are better than Michelin *, Abbey Inn. All dogs are welcomed. Booking essential to ensure the kitchen is not overloaded.

I turned up on a Sunday lunchtime, without a booking and with two dogs, having had a day out at Rievaulx Abbey. They were clearly very busy, so I would have understood if I was turned away. Notwithstanding, the staff checked with the chef if they could accommodate me. I was offered a table with the caveat that there could be a 20-25 minute wait due to how busy they were. My Sunday lunch arrived and it was beautiful. The beef was tender, the roast potatoes crispy and the Yorkshire Pudding light and fluffy (second only to my own!). However, the star was the cauliflower cheese it had the subtle hint of a spice, which I couldn’t identify, but it lifted the dish to the next level. There was a good selection of ales, beers and largers. With driving I didn’t get the opportunity to check out the wines on offer. The staff were delightful, giving attentive service without hovering. Most certainly, if I’m in the area again, I’d be a repeat customer and I would certainly recommend anyone giving them a try. They were a little more expensive than a ‘chain’ pub, but the quality and freshness made it wellworth the difference in price.

We have stayed at a nearby caravan site many times but this is the first time we have visited the pub with our 1yr old whippet, besides having the best Sunday dinner for ages, the staff and the pub were lovely and so dog friendly. Will definitely be back 👍👍🍸🍸
