Huge John Willy Lees pub on the A6 about a mile south of the town centre. Casta spotted it this morning so popped in on our way for a lift up to the North East. Very family friendly with large beer garden, play area and outdoor bar for busy times. Has a range of 4 real ales from the JWLees range. Casta chose the seasonal special Summer Pale Ale. Very refreshing. I usually have the MPA as I'm not a big fan of their bitter. Lots of food options but not eating so cannot attest to quality. Sunday roasts £14.25. Have a separate lunch menu and kids menu. Big pizza oven but not in service today.
Fantastic place to spend time with family and friends. Great food, nice staff , spacious space. Enjoyed few drinks , food and nice time with friends participating in quiz … Ample parking spaces.
Had a great experience here whilst on holiday visiting a friend. I chose to come here with my five year old as I saw they had a playground. We sat on a nicely shaded bench in the large outdoor area whilst she ran off some steam. I tried a craft lager from their large drinks selection and it was perfectly refreshing in the heat we had that day. We went inside once we had finished our drinks and chose a table in the bright and spacious seating area in-between the bar and the garden. It was early afternoon and the garden was starting to get busy due to the weather but inside was still nicely calm and cool which is exactly how we like it. We were served by a competent and polite member of staff and we felt looked after. The food came out promptly despite the kitchen being busy which was greatly appreciated. I ordered the cheese steak sandwich which was lovely(I only added mayo to make it a bit more saucy, personal preference). The kids sausages are tasty and the portions are a good size. My little one enjoyed her meal and the free kids ice cream afterwards was a welcome treat! I also had a glass of Sauvignon Blanc which went down well. Overall the customer service was great, the garden and kids area is lovely and the whole atmosphere was inviting. Also worth a mention is how clean everything was. We can't wait to visit again!
Visiting the second time. The service was impeccable. Absolutely brilliant food and great ambience.
Nice cup of tea at the Boot and Shoe. The chips were delicious. It's spacious, with corners you can go hide in. There is a nice pub garden but it was raining so we didn't use it
Have driven past a good few times doing Uni drop offs so decided to call in for lunch. Lovely feel to interior, good choice on menu, we opted for the soup and sandwich choice, plenty of filling on the sandwich and the cup of soup was tasty and enough. Staff really friendly and accommodating, we will definitely be back to sample the Sunday roast.
Excellent service and food, very quiet due to it being mid afternoon but didn't detract from the overall experience. Server was very friendly and attentive. Would not hesitate from recommending, and we will definitely be back.
Had a Sunday lunch for three. Fresh produce vegetables and tender beef. Thr seabass was delicious too. Desert shared tasty. Table Service spot on. Food excellent comoliments to the chefs and kitchen staff. Would have given 5 star if had air con installed to cool rooms down 28°c outside.
Sunday roast is well and truly a Sunday roast with side dishes of pigs in blankets cauliflower cheese and extra Yorkshire puds to boot. In all my years of entertaining and meals in high places I have yet to encounter better value service and courtesy in what is such a difficult industry in providing consistent high standards . Pass this cosy retreat and you will not know what you have missed out on.
Great pizza. Renovations have brought lots of light into the place and an interesting new décor. Child friendly with a play area for the kids. Good selection of traditional British ales. Quite area for dining and also Sky Sports for the footy.
Great local pub providing a much needed facility in the neighbourhood. Combines old-style pub with large modern conservatory for dining and great outdoor area for sitting and enclosed children's play area. Good choice of pub-style food, special diets, allergies, gluten-free food catered for. Good atmosphere and very friendly staff
First time I have been here for years and what a change light and airy very welcoming pleasant staff the menu isn't vast, but big enough choice I had the fish and chips with the northern upgrade ( bread and butter) the meal was well presented and tasted good we followed this with the apple crumble and custard you can't beat custard which was spot on
Would I return to the the Boot and shoe the answer is definitely.
Had a lovely meal here about a week or so ago - food was great and out two waiters Maya and Hugh who were very helpful and welcoming - definitely recommend
Fantastic took my daughter for her 30th birthday with her twin baby boys and the food was lovely and the staff couldn't do enough for us
Quite a nice pub, serves great food. Food was waited for quite a long time though. Food is just a tiny bit too salty. Overall this is an alright pub
Went on the day of the 2 for 1 pizza offer and it was lovely! Great venue, clean and welcoming. Nice to see your pizza being made and put into the pizza oven too and was delicious!
The best vegan options I've seen on any menu. I had the choice of four things and chose the banana blossom in batter with chips which was amazing. I've never tried it before, it had the texture of fish and I don't think many people would realise it wasn't cod. I was too full for a pudding but couldn't resist the vegan cheesecake with sorbet. Again it was amazing. It was light and so tasty. It was all very reasonably priced; it was great not paying over the odds for vegan food which was tasty and so well presented. I'll have to return to try all the other options.
