Alchemy Bar & Restaurant

This restaurant had a classy interior and toasty fireplace - a nice place to have a quiet dinner. The food follows a degustation style menu, albeit one with no particular theme. We found that the dishes were good concepts, but there was always something holding them back from being "very good" or "great" dishes - for example: a quite tasty pumpkin gnocchi topped with pre-grated parmesan from the supermarket (see photo), a nice lentil & spinach soup accompanied by a dry and stiff flatbread, or, in an ergonomic fail, bao buns which were made unnecessarily hard to eat by being plonked in a sauce puddle (ie fancy for the sake of being fancy). Overall, we enjoyed having dinner here, but there is definitely room to improve beyond merely "good" food. (Visit date: April 2019)

Menu changes monthly with the local produce, in an intimate dining room with candles and a roaring fire. Choose a range of your own small plates with optional wine matching. Delicious food, knowledgeable serving staff and the bartenders in the bar area know any and every cocktail there is, and aren't beyond creating their own.

Fantastic food !!! Such a beautiful venue . customer service is amazing and the food is to die for !! Some of the best Tasmanian wines . the staff go out and beyond to look after you and is so lovely to have a romantic meal and so trendy to go take a work client. Fantastic! An unexpected fine dining find in Lonnie, with a cool bar (with perfectly suitable live music on the night we went), a chilled lounge area and a charismatic dining room. Excellent degustation menu which can be ordered as seperate dishes. We took the three courses for $45 option, choose as you like. Smallish but exquisite dishes, no complaints from any of us (very hard to please normally) at the table. Astonishing drinks menu, from cocktails to favourite spirits and liqueurs, as well as an interesting and enjoyable wine selection. An enjoyable evening could be had for $70 per head if your'e on a budget, or a memorable indulgence if you're not... A final mention for the staff; pleasant, friendly, attentive but not annoying. Also coped perfectly with our 2 year old granddaughter being part of the group. A great night had by all, we will definitely be going back to Henry's!
