Visited for the first time this evening having known about smak since it first opened! Tried their food before at Kirkstall abbey markets and I am a big fan, but the restaurant, wow!! Warm, welcoming and the food is out of this world. Amazing staff and beautifully decorated (you wouldn’t know you were on a main road). GO AND TRY IT, you will not be disappointed.
Thank you Neil and Monica for a lovely night xx.
I took my family here today, and we were blown away by the quick, attentive service, and the beautifully presented and freshly prepared, tasty dishes.
Yes, the menu is not vast, but we found plenty to cover all our tastes. I'm a vegetarian, so I had the veggie pierogi and the warm beetroot salad - both were delicious.
My family had between them the breadcrumb chicken and Bigos and they really enjoyed them. The next table had the soup inside a round loaf, which looked very hearty!
I was surprised and delighted when the waitress presented me with a piece of cake with a candle on it at the end of the meal, after one of my party let slip it was my birthday. 😊
It's not a big venue, so if you have a big party, booking ahead is recommended. There were 5 of us. There is free off street parking behind the cafe and it's easy to find. Definitely will be visiting again.
I’d 100% recommend this place! The staff were so welcoming and knew their menu very well. The only thing I would say is that the menu was a little restricted for vegetarians
Really lovely place with friendly and attentive staff who are very accommodating. Ate here with friends and the food came fast, fresh and delicious. The pierogi are not what I’m used to traditionally but still really really good! The homemade chips are really tasty and you should definitely try the kompot.
Really looking forward to visiting Smak again.
My husband comes from a polish family and was very excited to eat some traditional polish food like his grandmother used to make...: but he left disappointed.
The restaurant was small and cosy and had a nice atmosphere. The waiter was attentive and gave a good service and the food was freshly made and of good quality, but......
The menu was very limited and basically consisted of burger or sausage sandwiches with chips or garlic potatoes.
Where was the borscht soup, hearty stews or Golumpki’s???
From looking at the pictures on here, I thought the menus would have been more varied and authentic
We stopped by Smak! for lunch one Saturday afternoon. We‘d caught them at a few events in the past and had been wanting to try the restaurant for a while.
They serve hearty, great tasting Polish food, with a modern twist. We shared the meat pierogi, which were very flavoursome. My husband then had the special, beef short ribs with horseradish mash, gravy & beetroot slaw. It was outstanding! He said it was one of the nicest meals he has eaten in a long time. The meat was incredibly tender, just falling off the bone, and the gravy had such depth of flavour. I had the breaded chicken breast, with garlic roasted potatoes and sauerkraut slaw. It was all delicious and beautifully cooked. We also had the homemade fruit juice, which was lovely and refreshing. Portion sizes were very generous and the food was beautifully presented.
The service was friendly and attentive; they made us feel very welcome. We can’t wait to go back!
The place is lovely, clean, welcoming and the waitress was amazing. Food was delicious. We will definetely come back!
Our first trip here upon a recommendation from a friend.
Had the savoury pancakes which were beautifully presented and tasted lovely too. I also took home a piece of mince pie cheesecake which was gorgeous! The place is warm, cosy and beautifully decorated.
Well worth a visit...
Cozy small restaurant but Incredibly tasty food!
Mostly had the vegetarian options and chips/fries and they were delicious. Both The chicken and butternut squash pancakes were a delight to eat
The menu is limited to one page but you will be in for a treat
Have visited this restaurant twice now, each time the food and service have been excellent. Original Polish cuisine. There's no alcohol license. It's only small so seating is limited, best to ring and book.
Fantastic little cafe/restaurant/bistro with the loveliest Christmas decorations ever - the server was really polite and attentive and the food was lush. Would recommend the zurek soup served in a large bread roll.
I came a couple of weeks ago with my mum, it was our first time after wanting to try it for ages, we had the dumplings with meat inside and they were amazing, so tasty! We also had the platter to share and some roast potatoes
The lady who served us was very friendly and welcoming
I love the decor it’s so cosy, I will definitely be back for more dumplings yummy!
The food was amazing and the staff very pleasant.
Really enjoyed it.
Very nice environment and lovely place.
Definitely recommend to other visitors and of course I will come back
Absolutely fabulous food - they had Zurek on special today which was the best!! Service was so friendly and they were happy to accommodate all our various choices and “sharing” plans. Couldn’t have been better- cosy surroundings, great decoration all added to a great evening!!! Thank you.
What a wonderful evening we’ve had at Smak! We feel stuffed (in the best way) with the most delicious food and drink! We would highly recommend the Pierogi and the Zurek soup special. Lovely service and homely, fun atmosphere. Very special find!
The SMAK is an amazing very well run Polish restaurant that's found an exciting way of eating. I can safely say this place is a treat! A real experience from start to finish.
Eaten here many times, fantastic and delicious food. Great atmosphere and excellent service. Paulina couldn't do enough to help and really make us feel special!
She is a top waitress!! Highly recommend for all types of occasions!
Lovely venue with great friendly staff and the food is amazing and so well presented. Brilliant!
The menu was just right. Enough to choose from and traditional polish food.
Defo visit again!
Absolutely love this place. It’s our secret hideaway when we manage to get a babysitter! The setting is so beautiful and the staff are friendly and helpful. The food is UNREAL. In the daytime it’s a bright and airy place to be and by night it is calm and romantic. Our top recommendations are the tempura vegetables and hunter sandwich. And of course the diced potatoes. You must try this place, you will not be disappointed!
Visited here on a weekday evening having driven past so many times. Didn't realise how small the inside actually was so had to wait in the pub next door whilst a table became available (no hardship), they took our number and gave us a ring when it was ready. Food was great, can recommend all of the dumplings and the stew was particularly good. We will definitely return!
A visit to Kirkstall Abbey from Leeds took us past Smak and, given that I am always looking for something a little different , I had to visit ! Sonwe called in on the way back into Leeds. The food is tradtional Polish and very well presented with peashoot and viola garnish! Soup served in a hollowed out crusty bread roll. Dumplings and stuffed pancakes- cabbage and picked beetroot. Excellent combination of flavours and textures. Efficient and friendly service. A great find !
