This is by far the best bar/ restaurant in Chapel Allerton the staff are fantastic as are the owners.....food is always top format and the beer is great, a better family atmosphere you won't find anywhere......me and my wife love it here.....it's like a Spanish version of cheers....
The only annoying thing is that I've only just found this place. Great staff, great service and the food was superb! Definitely recommend!
We were there last night. Great atmosphere and the food was brilliant. Shaun and all the staff are excellent. A real gem of a place and I would highly recommend this for an authentic Spanish feel.
Always amazing, one of my favourites restaurants in Leeds. Potentially the best tapas in the north, great food, great service - never disappoints! Try the chicken livers; I never liked them until I had them here, now they're a must order!

Had a wonderful meal on Saturday night with the wife . Great food and beers . We had our left overs put in to boxes for us and had them for lunch the following day . Very welcoming staff and they truly looked after us . The Haddock and prawn croquettes are to die for off the specials menu . We will be back .

Needed somewhere that served reasonably late as we had been to a concert. Very warm welcome, friendly service, food was all good. I will definitely go again
El Bareto has been on my wish list for years and long before I moved to North Leeds. It came in to my consciousness due to a blog that is no longer available to view. I briefly mentioned in one of my Brussels posts that local food blogs tend to focus too much on what is new and popular and old favourites are often forgotten. With that in mind I found myself sitting in El Bareto on a rather humid Friday night wondering if they could be one of those old favourites now sadly out of the limelight on the local food blogs.

Better than Barcelona. In the last month I visited Barcelona where they do several things better than us. The metro is so smooth you can stand without having to balance. The architecture of Gaudi is stunning. They have done something about the pickpocketing. What they can learn from Englan is how to cook tapas at a reasonable price.
A week before my Catalonian visit I experienced a meal at El Bareto where the food has that one quality that many restaurants miss. Attention to detail. As an example let me recomend the Canary Island Potatoes with mojo picon. Simply steamed potatoes served with two sauces, one of which was stunnng yet simple. It comprised cumin, coriander leaf salt and vinegar. On enquiry it appears that they had had to work at getting the proportions and method of combining right and now they are satisfied.
I could also wax lyrical on several of the dishes but rather than that it is worth a visit to experience the cooking which is from fresh. The owner Pedro will recommend if asked and has a extensive knowledge of the wine. His brother cooks and this gives a family atmosphere. Even on a Tuesday when football was on TV there were several customers enjoying the food. This place could well be difficult to get a table on normal nights when word gets round so ring first. Brilliant. Proper Spanish Tapas. Really felt like we had gone to Spain, especially as the owners are Spanish. Unusual wines, excellent food, and brilliant live music. No trendy decor, much more like a little bar tucked away on the Ramblas. Made other Tapas places taste like processed microwave food. And I want to learn to play guitar like those guys.Makes a change going to a restaurant where the owners and staff speak the language, made it feel much more authentic. And they actually could tell you about the wines. Great food, great fun.
Bad points - Pricey food. Limited selection on the menu. Bad waitering e.g my friends waited a long time for a piella and when it arrived it was burnt on the bottom. They told the waitress who was abscent during the whole meal (very annoying as we all wanted more drinks) and she shrugged and said 'ok' no sorry or anything.... Good points - it looks nice....
Love El Bareto. Service the best I've found in this area, with all the staff friendly, lovely and genuine. Food generally brilliant, with the odd dish slightly wide of the mark (but what restaurant is that not true of?). Love it and return time after time, and guaranteed if I had to make a snap decision to go out to eat at short notice locally I'd choose El Bareto. Particularly recommend the Patatas Jefas. Lovely!

This place managed to squeeze us in at the last minute on a Friday night. The Spanish bar maid was absolutely lovely, and the chap who served up was great too. We sat downstairs and I absolutely love the rustic feel and the seating arrangements/tables and style. For only the second time in the UK, I felt like I was actually in a tapas restaurant, eating actual Spanish tapas and drinking Spanish wine. Our date was perfect, the food was so good with our particular favourites being the chorizo croquettes, the duck, onion and cheese plate (sorry forgot the name, if the owner replies to this please name that dish!!!) And the Spanish meatballs. The food was so good, I actually forgot to take a picture until we were half way through the dishes, very unlike me. Perfect food. Perfect atmosphere, perfect date. Thank you!
Great meal which was incredibly delicious, super friendly staff and unpretentious vibe. The only fault I have is the prawns - a tiny tiny pot with only a few in, for something silly like £11.95 as I recall. Otherwise, perfect.
Fantastic place! Service was spot on. Food was fantastic, very reasonable price wise, the atmosphere was great....just like being abroad. It's a must for everyone who likes tapas and Spain.

Had a lovely meal here. The outside booths were nice to sit in and enjoy the meal. Only knocking a star off because the table was dirty and two of the dishes that arrived were not what we ordered, still tasty though. I'd go again.
Went for a dinner date to El Bareto last night and luckily my boyfriend reserved a table for us. The bar was packed and the restaurant area was fully booked. The food was amazing and the chorizo was indescribable, it doesn't compare to what you can get in the supermarkets. The staff were super friendly although they were busy. We overheard a waitress saying that someone was ill. We ordered 7 dishes, 1 over the limit they recommend. Listen to their recomme station which is 4-6 dishes for 2 people. We were stuffed! The picture of the chicken dish doesn't so justice as we had finished it before I could take a picture. They brought the dishes out when they were ready to be served; they are cooking everything fresh.
I cannot recommend this restaurant enough; amazing food, great staff, quality food for the right price. Make sure you book your table :)

Laúra and Shaun were the best hosts, we had the most beautiful date night made even better by the fantastic service. The food was exquisite and served quickly and piping hot and fresh- we had Jalapeño croquetas, Chorizo con cider, ratatouille with fried egg, Spanish meatballs and Patatas con garlic aioli. Friendly hosts and delicious food really made it a super special night and we can’t wait to come back :)

Lovely place, tucked away just off of Harrogate Road. If you're looking for delicious, authentic Spanish tapas in a cosy atmosphere - this is for you! The food was incredible, especially the crispy croquettes and chicken livers. The service was friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended!
Fantastic meal with the family, great selection of tapas - check out the specials board, Ox Cheek was immense. 4x Spanish beers on draught too. Great little place

Great food. Absolutely Spanish, run by Spanish people and popular with Spaniards, unlike most Spanish restaurants in the UK. Recently they brought in a great local ale, alongside the Spanish beers and quality wines.
Really great food, the service is fantastic, definitely go there for your tapas fix.
