We are visiting Leicester for the second time in two years and we came here both times. It was a really, really good experience, we loved both the Indian as well as the Indo-Chinese dishes. I cannot recommend Chai Paani enough - it's no coincidence it's recently been featured in a Rick Stein episode about excellent food in the Midlands area. We wish we could come more often.

We've been going here for so many years that it's probably been 2 decades.
Same smiling, welcoming owner, same quality (actually getting better) food, same great service.
These guys had a tiny shop further along by the lights, always queues and people wanting.
Then opened the larger current location and continues to be busy.
Favourites are dahi Puri, dahi wara, Pau Baji, chilli Paneer, Manchurian, chilli mogo, chana bathura and of course the passion fruit juice.
We always love the tapas feel of being able to order lots of dishes and with quick service and fresh tasting ingredients why would you not order and enjoy as much as you can on a single visit!
Keep it going guys for another 2 decades.š

Tasty food, very good portions, excellent price.
Have had better dishes elsewhere which is why it doesn't get 5 stars but I would still be happy to return and eat.
Servers are very good, friendly and quick.
Food came our quickly.
Busy and fun, though chaotic, environment but made for an exciting atmosphere

Travelled from Tamworth for decent vegetarian Asian food. And very nice it was indeed. Well worth the travel and will go again. It was nice to meet the owner who came to the table to ask if we liked our meal. Thank you.

Loved Chai Paani! Authentic Indian food at really good prices. Would definitely come back again for Indian food. We had Pav Bhaji, Chhole Bhature, Paneer Masala Dosa, Papdi Chaat, Nimbu Paani, sugarcane juice.
Paneer masala dosa was average but the rest of the dishes were good.

Great Indian restaurant in the heart of Belgrade road.
Northern Indian vegetarian food with great taste. The offer Indian and Indochinese cuisine.
Food tends to be quite spicy.
Very affordable place you can have a big meal for small amounts, specially of you go with more people and share.
Ideal to go with friends and family.

Weāve been twice to this restaurant now and both times we were shocked by the state of the interior, really dirty, really messy; you will worry that you might be leaving with a stomach ache after eating here; exactly like when you walk into any local restaurant in any of the dense metropolis cities of India.
Yet equally like any of the local restaurants you find in any Indian city. The food is absolute bomb!
This is by far the best restaurant you will find in Leicester if youāre looking to eat Indian food the likes they make back in India.
Highly recommend a million times!
The staff are so friendly and the service is top notch.

Ranjit Pande
Street food restaurant on Belgrave Road, Leicester. Buzzing with activity at lunchtime and yet very quick service. Large seating area in multiple levels. Outdoor seating available. Clean. Nice food. A good pit stop during a day's shopping.
The Masala Dosa, Vada Pav and Dahi poori were very good. Service was polite and efficient. Accepts cards, payment at the counter. Would go again.

We have been to Chai Paani many times over the years.
The service is very fast. The food is fresh and hot. The breads like Naan, Parathas etc cooked at that moment. We have never been rushed to finish our food, but we are aware that there is a constant queue of customers waiting for a table. So have never lingered around too long after finishing a meal. Bear in mind that when you need a table you only have a wait a short time. This place relies on a quick turnover of tables.
The staff work very hard and would forgive an odd mishap. They try their best.

Masala dosa was tasty but my granddaughter had samosa chaat
It was absolutely disgusting , yoghurt seemed to be off , it was too sour but she was eating it thinking it must be like this it was only when I had a taste the yoghurt was all stringy and too sour , I told her to leave that and she shared my masala dosa , we didn't say anything because the place was very busy and waiters were all rushed of their feet . Will never go there for samosa chaat and will not recommend it to anyone
Dhiru Ganatra
Just had a horrendous experience .
The staffās telephone manners needs a serious check .Went in,
allocated a table , just ordered the food and was blantetly told your
meal will be with us in 20 mins and
we had to gobble up our food in
10 minutes and then get out because of their party . Was shocked to say the least . The owner was standing there yapping
and couldnāt care a toss !
How the hell have they been voted
the best restaurant for 2017 ??
Avoid it if I were you . Having travelled 30 miles and having to face this ?
Disgusting !!
Never again !!!ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½

Not the best place, good size, service was ok, food was just about OK, expensive soft drinks, donāt know why people rave about it! I would never eat here again!
Shan Gill
Poor service tasteless food staff are backward freshies who havenāt got a clue and to top it of you can hear all the staff arguing from the kitchen and made to eat of plastic plates
Definitely wonāt be going back
Rather buy a pot noodle and sit in me pants at home
Pragna Mahi
Very poor service, would definitely not recommend to anyone. This place expects you to eat noodles with your hands as no cutlery provided and then when mentioned they say you have to request it. WTF
Niyra Khan
Such a lovely place to relax and eat . I totally recommend this place , so worth a visit.

I wanted to share this experience in particular and ask if anyone has received such appalling service from a restaurant that has just been voted āThe best vegetarian restaurant in Leicester.ā I have never had to deal with such rude people especially being the owners!
We have been supporting Chai Paani since it has opened. We drove down from London to go and have lunch as a family. We asked for a table for 4. The waiter throws the menus on the table and walks off.
We then give our order and he explains how we cannot add more food to our order as the restaurant is really busy and it takes time to add this to the order. He then takes the menus away.
The food then comes out in no more than 2 minutes, which clearly meant it had not been made for our order! It was cold and stale. The chilli paneer was tasteless and chewy like it had been reheated in a microwave.
We were eating and had food in everyoneās plates and someone would come and ask if we were finished! By the 4th person we all got annoyed and handed our plates over. As soon as they took the plates, another waiter came and wiped the table and started setting up for the next customers. He didnāt even bother waiting for us to get up.
After paying (they only take cash why is that??) we mentioned what had happened to one of the owners with the other one standing right behind him, who walked off. He didnāt even apologise and instead he thought it was funny and couldnāt get the silly grin off his face! He was so rude. We then mentioned leaving a review to which his rudeness increased. He started waving his hands in the air and shouting and claimed we shouldnāt threaten him with bad reviews because many people have done so in the past. Well then maybe itās time he does something about it? You should value every customer!!
I would just like to let people know about āThe best vegetarian restaurant in Leicester.ā Not sure how people can support a place like this... If it was possible to give less than one star I would!
Asjad Sareshwala
I regularly visit this place and had no complaints. Definitely worth visiting. Quality food and fast service and reasonable price. Love it.
Shaileen Sidi
Mexican and Italian food which was on the menu was not available even though we went Friday early evening. Samosa chaat should be renamed yoghurt chaat as there was hardly any samosa in there. Terrible service even though there were 3 waiters stood just watching people rather than serving.
Never going again!
