Stopped for lunch whilst travelling. I had a smoked trout salad the rest had paninis with salad, all were delicious. There are photographs hung on the wall, the atmosphere is reminiscent of the film ‘Brief Encounter’. We will be back.
All good for something to eat and drink after one has bought a ticket and passed through the barriers, this is on the platform and has a indoor seating area and ordering counter for various things before or after a journey takes place.
Helpful waitresses and other staff there for ordering and bringing stuff over.
Delicious soup of the day (butternut squash and sweet potato). Staff were very nice too :)
Coffee is always really good, friendly staff. Nice setting on the platform at Lewes Station
Clean surroundings and friendly staff. A good choice of drinks, sandwiches, pastries, crisps and snacks. The oat milk cappuccino was, however, very weak and mainly tasted of oat milk.
Nice little cafe good to have somewhere to wait and get something to eat or drink while waiting for a train at lewes it does get busy here.
Nice coffee, friendly staff. Great place to hang out and natter with your mates 👍🏻
Very nice coffee and a lovely Pastie for a reasonable price.
Excellent selection of cakes. Licenced premises, good for a swift half or two after coming off the train from work. Great selection of teas and coffees too, to suit all palates. Well worth a visit.
Fantastic cafe serving yummy homemade food and snacks. Awesome breakfasts to set our day up for our football days home and away! Staff are friendly, efficient and well-mannered making sure our food and drinks are served in preparation for every train journey we take and at respectable prices. So nice to have independent food and drinks outlet at our disposal, as opposed to chains. The Runaway Café every time for us - faultless.
The Runaway is one of the few independently run station cafes and is celebrating its 30th birthday. There is a fantastic display of cakes, many homemade including gluten free. They also do hot snacks and a variety of sandwiches and there is a bar serving alcohol. Staff are amazing and they even make sure you don't miss your train. Prices are very competitive and the coffee is really good. Much better than a chain and long may they continue!
My favourite station café in the South East! Not a franchise, plenty of staff at busy times, rapid friendly service. It's on platform 2 don't use the chain place at the station hall, you'll pay double for something half as good.
Its great, but old fashioned - mostly in a good way. The fact it doesn't take cash is either refreshingly quaint or insane. That's up to you i suppose. The sandwiches are brilliant, hand-made and taste great - but don't forget your coins. Decoration could probably be updated by 20 years or so. Still - better than the generic offering of most stations.
I had a lovely coffee and croissant, very reasonable prices, pleasant staff, and the whole cafe was immaculate.
Always used this from time they first operated in around the mid 80s and has always served Lewes station ever since. Only one thing is it's usable by fare paying passengers, as it is barrier side, but always useful for travelling onwards . 5 stars.
Cute cafe, effective staff means you're not waiting long but pleasant with it - great to grab a coffee and a bacon butty in a hurry before a train. 5 stars now they've started accepting cards/contactless
Today was my first visit and I was very impressed.
A proper station buffet with friendly staff selling a varied selection of reasonably priced drinks, snacks, and sandwiches.
A wonderful change from the usual overpriced big chain coffee shops.
