Basic Mexican Food.
La Parrilla is located in the middle of Bold Street and has been in Liverpool for a number of years and I finally decided to try it for lunch with my friends.
I went on a Sunday afternoon and they offer an ‘early bird menu’ which runs between 12pm-6pm on a Sunday.
This offer consists of a starter and a main course from a selected set of dishes on the menu for £15.95. For certain items in this offer you need to pay an additional cost.
I ordered the ‘Authentic Mini Basket’ for my starter and the ‘Enchiladas’ as my main. The Mini Basket is true to its name, it tasted nice but nothing particularly stood out to me with this dish. For the Enchiladas I ordered spicy chicken but it didn’t taste spicy, if anything very mildly spicy considering it’s Mexican. I was a bit disappointed with the enchiladas but the chicken was nice and tender.
Overall, the service was good and the food wasn’t bad but not outstanding in any way. I probably won’t come here often as the flavours seem to be lacking.

Authentic Mexican cuisine, though it didn't stand out as particularly special to me. The menu featured classic Mexican dishes that one might expect, but there wasn't anything distinctive that set it apart from other Mexican restaurants I've visited.
The flavors in the food were true to Mexican culinary traditions, offering a mix of familiar tastes that were satisfying but didn't bring a unique twist or memorable experience. The service was efficient, and the atmosphere had a typical Mexican restaurant vibe, complete with colorful decor and lively music.
While the restaurant didn't leave a lasting impression on me, it could be a good option for those seeking straightforward and familiar Mexican dishes. It's a place where you can enjoy a casual meal with standard Mexican flavors, though it may not be the destination for those looking for an extraordinary dining experience.

We went here at lunch time (good lunch time deals on tapas and 2 courses).
The service was attentive and quick. The portions were of good size (we went for the large tapas lunch option... 3 of the large plates are more than enough food).
The only reason it didn't get 5* was that I got the impression that the chicken wings weren't fresh and had been reheated. Other than that, thee ready of the food was very tasty.

Excellent food- best Mexican food we've had, great selection to chose from, portion sizes very big. Cocktails were delicious. Service was great. Would highly recommend x

Amazing food for amazing price and quantity. The food is halal. We ordered their famous chicken fajitas along with enchiladas. The food was mild spicy but can be pretty spicy if your spice tolerance is low. 🌶️🥵
We also ordered fresh orange & pineapple juice but it wasn’t as fresh. Would give that a 1/5. 🍍🍹

Walked past and decided to pop in, literally the only person in here. Ordered some bbq ribs as a starter and the fillet steak with wedges for the main.
Eating the steak was an experience in itself, it literally melted in my mouth, the wedges were on another level.
Will 100% be coming back here again.

It's not often that I get the opportunity to write about a great Mexican restaurant because I've been to so many run of the mill ones, but La Parrilla is absolutely fantastic.
The portion sizes are probably the best thing about this place, and there is a definite value for money here. Additionally to the great food, they also do reasonably priced cocktails to accompany your meal.
The staff members cannot do enough for you here and the food is sensational. The best I've been to so far.

Fantastic authentic Mexican. Huge delicious portions. The ambience was lovely and the staff very welcoming and friendly. Very inexpensive for what we had too. Would definitely recommend.

Fabulous Mexican restaurant in a vibrant part of town. It has a huge menu with plenty of different options and lots for vegetarians. I had nachos and a chimichanga. Both were so delicious and the potion sizes are humongous, we even took some home. The staff are a delight, very friendly and helpful. There are lots of cocktails to try too. Would happily return.

Absolutely loved this place. I really liked the mexican music and design, very very nice and chilled atmosphere.
The food was delicious, we ordered Chilli and Enchiladas and we were very pleased with our choice.

Food was really good, so were the drinks / cocktails.
I found the menu to be a little confusing though, there's a lot going on and was challenging to figure out what was included in the specials deals. Definitely not rocket science, but making it a bit more consumer friendly could help everyone :)
Our server could have done with a couple of smiles more, as he seemed a bit grumpy, and you'd think that a table of 10 people should be appreciated for the business they bring - we were not a lousy table, by the way, so there was no excuse for being unfriendly.

Food was good, didn’t Wow me like the reviews were stating. Tasted like something I could put together from a El Paso box. Atmosphere and service was really good.
Presentation was decent too, especially the cocktails! 4/5 probably wouldn’t come back as I would like to try other restaurants in the area.

Great Mexican food place! Good atmosphere. Main courses come in good portions and very delicious. It's not very Mexican authentic but flavour its good

It was pretty average. Nothing special especially for Vegan people! You will be eating pretty much the same thing whatever you order. We didn't find much Tapas Options as well. Ambience and atmosphere is good.

The decoration here was really amazing and lovely. The portion size here is really satisfying. You are definitely gonna enjoy it. We had burritos, salsa, halloumi fingers and steak and drinks to make it complete. The food was really delicious and yummy. The staff were also kind and friendly. I would really like to visit this place again.

Delicious food, excellent cocktails and colourful, fun decor. We especially enjoyed the nachos - great toppings & tortillas had a good crunch. Just be aware, though, that the burritos are mega in size, and could easily be shared between two. We'll definitely recommend this place, which is ideally located on Bold Street.

I don't often eat Mexican, so La Parrilla was a relatively new dining experience for me.
Food here tasted decent, served nice and warm, with authentic ingredients and flavours. However, I did feel quite stodgy and congested towards the end. Maybe that's just Mexican food, I'm not sure!
Price wise, La Parrilla is very reasonable, with meal deals to choose from if you're starving.
The staff here are welcoming, very attentive and effecient when it comes to service.

I'm a little biased when I say that Liverpool is the greatest city on earth, but I don't care so I'll say it. Liverpool is the greatest city on earth. I've been away from it as a permanent resident for almost 20 years, but whenever I go back I feel like I've never left. If that sounds too much like a cliche then tough I'm not apologising for it. The Victorian streets, the imposing townhouses, the gothic architecture and the lively atmosphere that fills every nook and cranny of this marvellous city I just can't get enough of it when I'm there.
As with most large cities there is a generous helping of world cuisines on offer for you to chow down on pretty much 24/7? On my recent visit I wandered up Bold Street. A collection of bohemian shops, restaurants and bars it sits right in the centre of the city. With the bombed out church at the top, don't ask me what it's called because I haven't the faintest idea. And the busy main shopping area at the bottom. In between is where the chaos ensues. Students scurrying around looking for that all important student discount sign in every shop window trying to grab a bargain, businessmen rushing out of the railway station dashing for a cab trying ever so desperately not to spill that rancid over priced Starbucks down their cheap pin striped suits. And then there's the day dreamers. The wanderers who meander from one side of the street or the other, peering through the polished windows of desperate vendors vying for their hard earned cash.
Amongst all this delightful madness is a plethora of eating establishments. Italian, Indian, Chinese, Greek, Nepalese, Thai, Mexican and even French. Oh and of course not forgetting the vegans!! Theres even a place for them. I found myself walking into La Parilla. A Mexican restaurant situated on one of the street corners just up from the railway station. An eccentric looking place from the outside with a stereotypical Mexican bandit character playing a guitar in the doorway entertaining passers by and diners alike. As we walked in we where greeted with a friendly smile by a waiter who has asked if we'd booked. We hadn't! I do long for the day when I can walk into a restaurant ask for a table and they ask "have you booked?" And I reply "No don't you know how I am?" But anyway at the moment I'm a nobody so I have to be contented with either being told no and asked to leave or being put wherever they can't for me? Luckily on this night it was the latter.
We where seated in the window at the front of the restaurant. The interior was charming if not a little tacky. But I honestly don't mind that. I don't really like restaurants to be prim and proper. I like the eccentric and shambolic style some exhibit. It gives character to a place and provides interesting talking points. Service was speedy our drinks order being taken strait away. Desperado beer and a gin and tonic! The menu is quite extensive and with a lot to choose from it was difficult to make a definitive choice. In the end I ordered a mini chicken filled tortilla wrap with salsa, guacamole and sour cream. It was very nice, presented well and tasted delicious. Not too heavy and not too greasy. The flavours burst through every mouthful. Fresh, vibrant and totally moorish it was a lovely starter. The salsa was freshly homemade none of that jarred Doritos watery puss they call salsa. For the main course I had one of my favourite Mexican dishes, the Chimichanga. It was basically, and I didn't realise at the time a large version of the starter. But this came with a delicious sauce topping and rice that really completes the dish. Crammed into the tortilla was chicken, peppers, onions, and garlic all swimming in a lovely creamy cheese sauce which was silky and smooth like liquid chocolate on a winters night it was divine.
The actual size of the tortilla was colossal! But I tackled it with all the gusto I could muster and got through it. Every mouthful a delight, lip smackingly good it was a pleasure to eat. It was a meal well worth the struggle to get through. The waitress came over to see if all was ok. I refrained from firing a distress flat into the air and asking for a stomach pump, everything was splendid I replied. The main meal was over with. I had that feeling of elation and regret all at the same time. I swerved dessert because I was just too full. The bill came swiftly and we paid. But not without finishing those little minty chocolates they give you. There's always room for them. Although I did rather feel like Dawn French trying to cram in that last Brussel sprout!
All in all this was a great visit and a great place to eat. It's fun, vibrant, entertaining and the food is incredibly good. I'd definitely recommend it and I shall definitely be returning the next time I am in the city.

Upon entering, we were welcomed by a friendly and attentive staff. The Mexican decor was charming and surprisingly authentic. The entire establishment was cleaner than any Mexican restaurant I've ever been in (which isn't necessarily a good thing).
The food was below mediocre. It's a sad attempt at Tex-Mex. For £12 I expected a bit more than tinned food on top of bland tortilla (not the mention £5 for a modelo). Nothing on my plate tasted fresh, and from looking at the plates of my party, nothing else looked fresh either. The presentation was nice and the kitchen did what it could with the ingredients given.
Again, the staff was great, the atmosphere was fantastic, the presentation was on point. The food just didn't taste nice. Mexican food is about freshness. You need to be able to taste where your food is from. Cilantro, peppers, local sourced vegetables and meats are of paramount importance. It wouldn't take much to fix these problems, but it was a shame to leave feeling as dissatisfied as I did.

This is probably the best burrito I have had outside of California. This place is the real deal. From the friendly staff to the huge and I mean ridiculously HUGE portions. This place will whisk you away to the friendly cantinas of Tijuana. Amazing.
I would recommend this whole heartedly for friends family. I even got to west a sombrero for the entirety of my stay. Great for the kids.
The staff are so friendly and happy. The kitchen is super clean and professional. You can see your food getting prepared.
I really look forward to coming here again and again and again.
Did I mention the Burritos are huge. You could seriously have 1 between 2.
Visit soon my friends before you have to start booking a table.

This place is awesome, food is delicious and huge!
Im Mexican living in California and honestly this was the closest home flavor I could find. I would absolute recommend this place.
This place is good for any occasion and the staff is so friendly, I would definitely return someday and recommend this place to all my friends visiting.
Great job guys!!
