For a while this mammoth pub had a huge bunch of metal grapes hanging outside it, I often wondered how that would work with other pub names - could you have a massive pair of royal appendages if it were the 'Kings Arms' for example. I, of course, digress.
This pub has recently been refurbished, although honestly I can't really see where - the tables are a bit nicer and the carpet has a few less ground in chewing gum splotches (although it's still a hideous pattern) but the bar is where it always is and even the weird, unfathomable golf game near the stairs to the toilet is still there. I'm not complaining you understand, I actually really like The Grapes and were it not the other side of Formby, and not for the fact that I'm at least trying to pretend to be a real functioning member of society, I would happily spend all my days out here - in winter tucked into one of the booths and in summer lounging on the outside terrace.
The service is friendly (this may be because I know quite a few of the bar staff) and the beer well poured and competitively priced. The food is the usual reheated something-with-chips-and-peas but it's cheap (£1.99 for scampi, chips and peas) and not especially bad.
Definitely the best place in Formby to spend New Year's Eve when, come midnight, revellers roll out onto the street outside to hug and sing and watch the fireworks explode over local gardens.
Started eating here after receiving a 40% voucher off main meals. Have to say I was seriously surprised at how fantastic the food was and the hospitality. Highly recommend the grapes . We've been there 3 times this week .
Staff were friendly and polite. The food was amazing! Restaurant standard . I has seasoned salmon with rice . It was freshly cooked not microwaved like a lot of pubs . I will definitely be coming back on a regular basis
I have visited a number of Sizzling chains now, and this particular Pub stands as a benchmark. I have been thoroughly happy with the level of service I have received from this particular chain, certainly one of the best Sizzling Pubs, if not, the best of the lot. The Manager was exceptionally friendly and helpful, waiting times were good, and to top it all, the Grill, did indeed come out SIZZLING!. Which appears to be lacking in many other of the branches I have visited. The quality of the food was much better than any other branches I have visited and I will certainly be visiting again upon passing in future.
First time visiting this Sizzling pub "The Grapes" food was delicious, hot and great portion sizes, the team were friendly and helpful a little bit of wait for our meals but appreciate they were short staffed in the kitchen. Will be back soon!
Staff are always friendly, and the place is always clean and tidy. Bar staff create a nice atmosphere.
Toilets are okay.
The only fault is that they have too many tables reserved, when we walked in there must have been around 20 tables empty with reserved signs on them. They will be losing money this way. What they should have is this table is reserved from a certain time, I.e. if you have a booking from 5.30pm then from 5pm. This gives time to clean and also option to use if you can, then people can use it till then

We went for the new Quiz Night. It was great! Friendly staff and excellent service. Quiz master was great - we will be back, thank you.
Lovely food. Very reasonable prices. Staff always helpful and friendly.
The menu has a good choice of dishes and the food was very good. There is a child free space which is useful at busy times. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
