Pasted through on a cycling holiday. Made very welcome which is more than be said about the pub across the road. Turned out to be folk night and was made to feel at home by the excellent musicians even though we couldn't play. Thank you for making 2 weiry cyclists very happy.

Great pub, popped in for a quick pint great selection of local beers on offer along with popular lagers. Very friendly landlady. Pop up kitchen on the Saturday night. Sat outside in the sun and watched the world go by.

We attended the Halloween Family Night (I was playing in the band). A warm welcome, generous bar tab, lovely people and good range of drinks.

I’m a 16 year old with terrible anxiety and I’m currently getting help for it so it was really hard for me to go out but as soon as I walked in the atmosphere was really friendly and kind, everyone in there welcomed us and told us the best spot to go to sit down. It’s a really nice area, I think it looked really beautiful with the added decorations like the carved statues :))! As an added bonus despite not serving food at that time the person there offered to make some anyways which was beyond kind. The drinks were delicious I really enjoyed them, would definitely come again, thank you for being so kind to me :))!!

Last night was in with some friends and my dog socially distancing. Had some cracking pints of Butty. Unfortunately, someone had an accident and knocked a glass off the table and it smashed next to my dog. He got up and was scared. My instinct was to jump up, detach his lead and pick him up and carry him into the entrance lobby. The staff were fantastic and invited me to take him into the bar while they cleaned the glass up. Thanks to the staff and everyone that got my coat, bag etc & dog lead for me.

Really friendly pub. Didn't do food, but said we could get a take away and eat it in the pub - so we had our fish and chips there. Really helpful - found us plates and cutlery. Nothing too much trouble. Maggie really 'went the extra mile'. Cheers!

I have been using the Crown & Anchor for many years. It did not serve food, have television but did always serve good quality beer. It has recently been taken over by new owners who have plans to bring it into this century. In due course it will serve food and will be able to compete on equal terms with the other pubs, restaurants and B&Bs in the town. Be patient. Best wishes and good fortune to the new owners.

Very old grade two listed pub that hasn't been ruined by being modernised or having its layout altered. No TV or jukebox blasting out either. Four intimate rooms and a snug. Rare in this day and age. Good selection of drinks and great staff. Lovely atmosphere in there too. Is in need of a refresh which will be getting done this year apparently. But all in all a lovely unspoilt pub.
