Just back from my third visit in a week to the Smiddy! Excellent service, amazing food (the mac n cheese is a definite favourite!) and the baking is superb!! Some really nice, different items on the menu. Definitely worth popping in! Xx

Top Quality Evening with the wife to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. Menu had amazing choices. I started with the sea food chowder, then the chicken wrapped in bacon with haggis, baby potato's and veg and to finish with fresh cream profiteroles and ice cream with chocolate sauce and a mixed berry compote. Food was top notch, definitely the best place to eat out at in Lochgilphead, Prices very reasonable for the professionalism, presentation and taste of each dish. We have been crying out for an establishment like this for ages, now that we have one I think we should all support John to make it a resounding success.

Had a lovely meal here on a Friday evening. We rocked up at 6pm and got a table, but if you want a later table, you'd better book as the place filled up quickly. Had a lovely starter of scallops and a main course of smoked fish. Wonderful atmosphere, great food, central location with free parking behind. Smiddy Bistro has something for everyone. Can't wait to go back.

Lovely lunch today. I had the chickpea burger and it was very tasty. Only down side of our visit was being too full for cake, they looked amazing

Made a point to visit when we found out John was the chef. We weren't disappointed, the restaurant is very nice with a great atmosphere. The staff were very pleasant and friendly and the meal was John's usual excellent quality. Shame we are only up here for a couple of days, but are thinking of coming back later in the year. If we do The Smiddy will be high on the agenda for another visit.

Visited this evening and the meal was delicious, staff very friendly only gripe would be it is quite small and not much room between tables but this would not stop me returning

Outstanding. Not only was what we ordered great, everything that went past on its way to other tables looked great too. Warm and welcoming with great coffee and cakes. The salads looked amazing as I watched them being assembled. Cafes like this are worth detouring for. Highly recommended.

Stopped in for a quick bite en route to Campbeltown and were blown away. Croque madame was the best we’ve ever had! Also enjoyed the soup special and the baked goat cheese special. Ended the meal with taking away a delicious cake! Not to be missed when in the area

Stopped here for a very nice lunch. Cullen skink was filling and very tasty. The sandwich was excellent and I would have had one of the very nice looking deserts if I had room. I would recommend a visit. It was very busy with people waiting for tables.

We stopped here before heading to tarbert. The food was very nice but we were left feeling a little hungry still as the portions were quite small. We ordered the macaroni and the nachos with chilli beef which could have both easily filled one person but not two. Although it was tasty, we did not feel the price reflected the smaller portion size.

Just behind the main street down a lane, lovely old stone building with just a few tables. Roasted Garlic & Cauliflower soup and the Haggis Rarebit were both delicious, we especially loved the fantastic salad! Delish food, warm welcome and friendly service with a top selection of cakes/desserts after.

Unexpected trip to Lochgilphead but we found the pot of gold at The Smiddy. Fresh salad/quiche combo, and delicious Cullen skink. Our server was delightful and attentive and the restaurant was clean and quite busy. Overall an excellent experience.

Lovely place. Excellent food and friendly staff. Very welcoming. Try their HUGE salad, perhaps with coronation chicken (photo). There are only about a dozen tables so you may have trouble getting in at busy times - and it's so good, it's usually busy!
