Visited Golden Chippy to try their burgers. I ordered for chicken burger and jumbo sausage burger. Both were very tasty. Tried the chicken nuggets and the chicken and mushroom pie. It was goodml. Would love to visit again.
We come from Maritime Canada but the fish here is better than home. Grilled haddock was cooked to perfection. Chips and salad also excellent. Staff was friendly, efficient and flexible. Great visit.

On the advice of a mate of mine, I was instructed that to experience the best fish and chips in London I needed to go to a real fish and chip shop, not a pub or restaurant. I had planned a day out in Greenwich and decided to have fish and chips for lunch there as I only had a couple of days left in my trip and I discovered a listing for the Golden Chippy within walking distance of the train station and an opening time close to lunchtime when I would be hungry.
After waiting for them to open at 11am, I walked in and was greeted with smiles and asked whether I wished to eat in or have takeaway. Because this was my first experience with British fish and chips rather than the usual stuff back home in Australia, I asked for a recommendation of which fish to purchase with the lovely staff behind the counter suggesting the haddock as it had a flavour close to the cod I was used to (the cod also being unavailable at that time) and so I went with this recommendation. Upon being seated outside, the owner came out and asked if I was hungry as he had been to the market that morning and said that the haddock I had ordered had just come in fresh and as he was preparing it, there was one of the biggest and best fillets that had caught his eye and he said he was saving it for the first customer to order the haddock that day, which happened to be me.
After the food arrived to my table, the size of the fish was impressive with it being bigger than the usual fillets I get back home, with adequate portions of chips and salad on the side. The chips were hand cut which was a pleasant experience as the shops at home tend to use frozen chips and these hand cut ones were just like the way my Nanna used to make them. The fish itself, was flavourful from the first bite to the last, being the freshest I've had in a long time with it flaking apart with every cut. The chips tasted like home, they weren't just another serve of frozen chips, they were like how we used to make them. The salad had a wonderful flavour which provided a balance between the fish and the chips.
Overall, the food was fantastic, and the staff were lovely, doing their best to make this an enjoyable experience for this young Aussie and engaged in conversation to make me feel welcome rather than just another ordinary customer.
Small outlet with limited sitting area and located at the corner of the street serving Fried Chicken, Fish & Chips, Burgers, Hot dogs etc. Tried the below
- Fish & Chips: Tried the Haddock one, the fish & chips here actually really good compared to lot many places I visited in London. Also, the portion size is quite big. The large portion is good for 2 people.
- Veg Burger: It is good with a Veg Patty.
Overall, really loved the Fish & Chips and totally worth the money.
The fish and chips here is delicious and tasty. Crispy golden batter fried to perfection served with your good old traditional chip-shop chips. Loads of salt and vinegar sprinkled over the top, what can I say!
One of the best fish and chips I have ever tried. Big portion of fresh and well cooked fish as well as a great service, this I kept in my mind after today's visit. As a Czech living a London think I now know a place where to take my friends when they are coming over.
Visited here on the last night of our weekend away to London and we were not disappointed! After 3 days of sight seeing, we wanted to eat somewhere local to our hotel as we were very tired. We had walked past this chip shop several times and it was always busy and smelt lovely, so popped across to see if they could seat 7 of us later that night. The manager promised to set us a special table up and was true to his word, he even managed to ensure we had the wine we had requested too.
The staff were all friendly and made a big fuss of our son, totally spoiling him and making him feel special. The food was lovely traditional chip shop food and atmosphere fantastic. If the rating was for atmosphere alone, I would have rated this a ten out of five!
If you enjoy chip shop food, this is the place for you. It may not be 'nouvelle cuisine' but was great value for money, tasty and had a great family feel.
I had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant while staying in a nearby hotel, seeking traditional English cuisine. The restaurant came highly recommended, and I was drawn to its inviting outdoor seating area. The staff were exceptionally friendly and eager to recommend various menu options.

The fish is fresh the batter was crispy and not oily but the fish need more seasoning.
Of course you can season your fish with the tableside salt and vinegar and tartar sauce.
The chips can be made to be more crispy
The salad is a good medetrenian side dish. It balanced the richness of the the fish and chips.
The staff was friendly and polite. The even gave me extra chips without any extra charge and I appreciate their hospitality.
I had my first ever cod fish and chips here. Although I bought the fish and chips to go. But the fish still really tasty when I got to the hotel. I can tell the fish is fresh, it got a nice texture and tastes sweet.
I love the salt and vinegar seasoning. A bit sour but mix with the saltiness and oil of the chips, it becomes a very unique taste. I can just keep on eating all the chips!
I think this is a must go places for lunch or dinner if you ever visit Greenwich!

Beautiful staff, delicious food. The fish and chips with the salad were delicious! The jacket potato was amazing! The staff were super nice! We took a bus for 50 minutes to get here and am so glad we did!! We will be coming back for more awesome food!

Mushy peas are spot on.
That Mediterranean salad seems different than other fish and chip shops and I really really liked it.
My only warning is that if you get the halibut, it is so good, it may make the other fish orders seem bad.
We found this place because it was on 3 different best of Greenwich lists. When we arrived, I realized I knew this place from a positive review on YouTube.
Take away is cheaper. Dine in the patio for hot and crispy right out of the fryer.
I really enjoyed the Golden Chippy. The staff was lovely and the fish and chips were delicious and crispy. They have large portions and all orders come with a jar of tartar sauce. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a casual dinner or lunch.

When we first arrived in London from New York, our expectation of the fish & chips were quite high… and somehow, through a combination of the food and the tremendous service, Golden Chippy well exceeded them. 100% worth the trek outside of the main area.
