I'm so glad i've visited this perfect and family run restaurant! It's an amazing venue to have a delicious Turkish cuisines and drinks, big portioned and very well priced! Thank you so much staff!
After a very long day of sightseeing, 3 Vegans went in search of a healthy vegan dinner. The vegan restaurant at which we planned to dine on this Sunday evening had already closed its doors. We were told by the wait staff at another nearby restaurant that there was no possible way to make even its vegetarian options vegan. When we stopped at Lokkonta Meze & Barbecue to peruse its menu, one of the staff came out to the sidewalk to help us. We decided to give the restaurant a try, and we were not disappointed! Our wait person, Kayra, explained and suggested vegan cold meze for a 6 meze platter. He also recommended the vegetable kebab platter. The dishes were served with pita bread, and both were delicious! We were also treated to a rose-scented sweet. Kayra, Chef Can, and Dogukan all made our dining experience a wonderful way to end a fabulous day!
Lokkanta serves Turkish food, but more along the street food variety. Don't get me wrong, what they do, they do quite well, but don't expect fancy Turkish food here. What's available is similar to what you may see on a Lebanese menu with different names and spices.
They do a lot of grilled meats and doners (think shawarma)
We were given a plate of meze - hummus, a yoghurt dip, tomato based salsa and some pickled vegetable salad with thin strips of lavash like bread - complimentary while we waited for our food.
The lamb borek was lovely - mildly flavoured meat in a beautiful crisp outside tender inside pastry wrap. Think of it as a cross between a samosa and a spring roll.
For mains I ordered the lamb iskander kebab - doner/shawarma slices of lamb on a bed of crisp fried bread squares with toppings of tomato sauce and beautiful thick yoghurt and a side offering of garlic sauce and their chunky chilli sauce.
Brother ordered the lamb chops which came with a small side salad on a bed of larger grain couscous. He loved the flavours.
I ordered Turkish tea that turned out to be just black tea (no mint, no Apple flavour - just served in a traditional Turkish shaped tea glass) brother had the ayran (yoghurt drink) which was pre-packaged, but he found it very refreshing.
Service was very sweet and friendly. Staff was always smiling easily. They know the menu and can help you make a choice if you need it.
We were quite stuffed with this meal, but had to end with baklava. Their pastry layers are much thinner than most baklava that I've tried in this city - almost filmy, not too sugary. Personally I like a bit more crunch from the nuts in my baklava, but this was a more refined version and hence the nuts were really finely crushed.
We also got 2 pieces of lokum (Turkish delight) complimentary with our bill and it was so good, that next time I'll ordered the lokum rather than the baklava.
The food was amazing! Perfectly grilled and authentic Turkish cuisine, with a distinct smoked taste. The Hot Meze Mix had large portions and was so good to share! The service was excellent as well - We definitely shall be back for more. Desserts are incredible as well. I’d recommend visiting if you’re nearby - great meal after a walk in Hyde Park.
I recommend this restaurant! The food was very tasty we really enjoyed it! The staff were very nice and welcoming.
Highly recommend this restaurant for authentic Turkish cuisine. Me and my brother ordered the mixed grill Platter for 2 the portions were just enough for 2 people and we managed to finish most of it. The meat was so delicious and tender and juicy. My favourite were the Lamb ribs, chicken wings and lamb Adana. It was beautifully seasoned. The Platter also comes with a selection of cold mezze with soft pitta bread. I loved the baba ganoush which had a nice smokey flavour. The Cacik was very thick and creamy and so tangy. I also ordered the Lahmacun which was nicely spiced and was full of flavour. Everything tasted so fresh even their Baklava was homemade and a nice treat to end the meal with. The service was excellent, our waiter Mikel was very friendly and attentive and the food arrived promptly. The presentation was beautiful too. Thank you Lokkanta for an amazing experience and being so welcoming. I can't wait to dine with you again.
Our experience at Lokkanta was absolutely amazing. We were promptly seated by our amazing waiter Mark, who then aided us in our orders. For drinks, we had the Turkish lemonade and the Ayran (yoghurt).
As there were three of us, we decided to have a range of dishes and share between us all. All together, we had the king prawns, babagonash, humus, Sucuk with halloumi calamari, sigara borek, muska borek, feta salad, the Lokkanta special grill and the halloumi kebab. All tasted delicious, the standout dishes for us were the lamb from the Lokkanta special grill, sigara borek, and the muska borek. Everything was perfect; the service and recommendations were great, the dishes arrived promptly, and the flavours of the dishes were great.
We then finished with 1 Turkish tea and 2 Lokkanta special teas, which come with honey, mint, and oranges (unfortunately, they did not have any oranges).
Overall, Lokkanta is a great spot to visit, great service, great food, and great drinks.
Amazing food
Lovely guys
Great service and quality
Will def come back here again 😋❤️
Very nice BBQ meat at fair prices and they don't charge service like it says on the menu, which was a big win. Portions maybe slightly small, if you are sharing might be better to get larger platters (but obviously more expensive). Ezme was also great and I really enjoyed.
Turkish lemonade was not limonata be warned. And I was disappointed they don't do pides anymore as I was looking forward to trying them. But overall a nice experience, great meat and responsive and polite waiters.
By far one of the best food i’ve had. Not just turkish, of any cuisine! The staff are so humble and the food is just mindblowingly good
Definitely one of the best Turkish restaurants in Central London. Reasonable prices with great value. Everything I had last time was super delicious and staff was very friendly & welcoming. I can definitely recommend this place.
In one word it was P e r f e c t! The meal was delicious and crispy. I think best turkish restaurant in London. Mr. Nurtaç was so kind and helpful ( in every sense 😛 )
Staff was very frendly and kind. For this price portion was small. But its was delicious.
