Beautiful space with beautiful and delicious food! It's not only dinner, but it's an experience and one worth the investment. The space is fabulous, the service impeccable, and the food does not disappoint. We went for my birthday dinner and it was delightful in every way. The sommelier was fabulous and we enjoyed speaking with him. I highly recommend the wine pairing!

Our experience at Pétrus was truly wonderful. Myself and my partner went for dinner and were served The Prestige menu. Every dish we were served was full of flavour. I had notified the restaurant before our arrival that I am 7 months pregnant and that my partner had an intolerance to shellfish and they had made sure to cater to each of our needs and everything was absolutely delicious and by the end of our dinner we were satisfyingly full and very happy with the service we received. I would fully recommend experiencing this restaurant. With my next visit I shall be trying the wine pairings!

The scallop was my fav dish of the dinner, lamb was average and I didn’t like the how the eel was cooked. The wine recommended to us was matching well. The service was not very friendly but meeting the standards.

Overall the food is nice, but having Gordon ramsey’s name on the restaurant I just expected a touch more, two dishes were actually cold and couple of dishes needed just abit more seasoning. At the end of the day Im dining at a restaurant from one of the greatest chefs in the world. Will I go again: Probably Not Food : 7/10 Service: 10/10 Value for money: 7/10 Price: £500 for two

I expected more from Gordon Ramsay. The food was prepared nicely but nothing extraordinary. Nothing that we will remember or crave later. The dessert was the best part.

The restaurant service is fantastic. Exactly as you would expect for a Michelin starred restaurant. The amuse bouche, petit fours and canapés were exceptional. Desserts were the highlight of the meal. The mains we ordered (Dover sole, cod) were nice, but paled in comparison to the rest of the meal. Wine pairings were great. Overall, would definitely recommend.

I was very pleased with my visit. I suffer from anxiety and am on the spectrum so eating can be difficult for me. Especially since when I travel. But it has always been a dream of mine to go to a Gordon Ramsay restaurant and try the scallops. Going into the restaurant I was greeted by friendly and professional staff. The lighting was low and the walls a deep red with an almost wooden texture I enjoyed a lot. The environment was clean and perfect. I was an anxious mess due to my own personal issues but ordered the scallops and cod. I was pleasantly surprised by all the add ons you received. Such as small bite size creations and bread/butter. I was extremely full after just a starter and main course (sadly had to pass on dessert) but the staff still gave me some delicious treats at the end. The lemon biscuits are out of this world! Everything was a work of art. You can really tell the designer of the menu has a artistic eye. The use of edible flowers and other dish components really made the dishes pop! I also enjoyed that everything was edible and not just for show. I wonderful touch. The colours used in the cod dish where my favorite. Such warm earthy colors along with an earthy taste reminded me of a perfect autumn day. I was sad when I couldn’t finish the dish. The portions may look small but they pack a punch! I was so full. Overall an experience I would recommend to everyone. It’s expensive but it’s a once in a life time experience you won’t forget.

We came for lunch and chose the Prestige menu (6 appropriately sized courses). Every dish was prepared well, near perfect. But no dish stood out as a combination we’ve never had before or a bite we’d dream of for years to come. Maybe that’s too much to expect at the 1 star level. You come here for a delicious meal and that’s exactly what you’ll get. If you’re uninterested/inexperienced with fine dining, this will be memorable (though perhaps overpriced for the value you get). Atmosphere was bland though quiet and a good location. Interior is particularly outdated and uninspiring. Staff was cordial but didn’t feel like they went out of their way to make us feel special (which is what we’ve experienced at other Michelin restaurants).

A lovely birthday celebration @ Pétrus! Highlight of the meal was the basil tomato amuse-bouche that was like “drinking a pasta” - my brother. Most dishes were with table service, which personally is quite fun & amusing. Thanks to the Pétrus team for the wonderful birthday lunch and card ❤️

We enjoyed a lovely meal. The food was excellent in every respect. The vegetarian menu was also very good and inventive. Dishes are very small but at the end of the tasting menu and the desserts you don’t feel hungry. Waiters were for the most part very service oriented, though there were some lapses in wine pouring etiquette and leaning over patrons while refilling water glasses. Also, the booking process could have been smoother. Cooks in kitchen were very charismatic and happy for guests to look around and to explain what they did. We had the chance to sit both in the main dining room and at the chef’s table in the kitchen. The main dining room is comfortable but nothing special in terms of decor. The chef’s table seating is showing its age but you get to see the kitchen work while you eat. There are no food smells yo worry about. We enjoyed a meal to remember for sure.

Worth every pound! This was my treat on a trip that I have waited 24 years for. At least now I could spoil myself with a lovely memorable meal. The scollops and the sause with the cod were my favourites. The restaurant also catered very well for my lacrose intollerance and swopped some of the dishes. The attention to detail is great and when I asked to see the menu again just to be reminded of the dishes I had, they printes me a personalised copy with my name and the date. This was totally unexpected, but shows you the service mentality of the team.

A Michelin 1 * fine dining experience in comfortable surroundings with the impressive circular glass wine room in the centre of the restaurant. We found the staff were generally attentive and friendly. Opted for the A La Carte menu 3 course at £110 pp (plus 15% service charge), food presentation very good and served at timely intervals. The main course 100 day aged Cumbrian Blue Grey cooked medium rare was the star dish.

MICHELIN 1* - LONDON The service was good as expected of a Michelin rated restaurant. The food however was just only decent and was not up to par with the price tag nor the Michelin star in my opinion. With the same price you could get a better meal elsewhere with better rated Michelin stars ( i.e Dinner by Heston Blumenthal)

Technically perfect food with its ups and downs. A bit about the dishes. We took both menus so we could compare them and have a complete opinion about the restaurant. You can clearly see that the discovery menu has more work into it and it is more technical. However! That doesn't mean that it is better than the prestige menu. The Isle of Skye scallop dish with all its simplicity (compared with the dish from the discovery menu) was superb. Another example, on the discovery menu, even though the pigeon was tasty, I found the sides out of balance, too sweet with an overpowering cumin taste. The aged Cumbrian blue grey was better. Best dishes in my opinion; the eel, together with the scallops, and the coconut / passion fruit dessert. About the service. It was top notch. Attentive and polite. About the place and the vibe. A bit sterile. Flat. It could definitely get an update. By the way, the cutlery can also get an update. They look like they've run many miles... Final remarks. Portions are indeed small. Prices are high. You can get a better experience with a lower price in other Michelin star fine dining restaurants. However, you cannot argue that this is a quality restaurant. *I don't give the 4 star rating with all my heart, but 3 would be too less.

Based on no small part from the verbal recommendation from season 21 Hell’s kitchen winner, Alex (met Alex while dining at Hell’s Kitchen in Atlantic City), I made a reservation at this restaurant with my mom and dad. This was a wonderful experience and will forever be a memorable. I would go back again and again.

Had the tasting menu last week, with wine pairing. The food was excellent, as were the servers. But beyond that, we weren’t really impressed. We have dined at a number of Michelin star restaurants (from 1-3). What seems to have made past experiences truly exceptional are the fine details. The timing of our meal was really inconsistent. Some courses came quickly, other times there were long lags. Our wine pairings were mismatched (sommelier was taking about how the wine paired with various elements of a dish and then a completely different food came out). Some of the decor also seemed really worn out (i.e. piping on chairs was dirty and worn to threadbare, and multiple glass tiles on the bathroom walls were completely spiderwebbed and shattered). <br/><br/>At the end of the day, if you just want spectacular food, you won’t be disappointed. If you are looking for a detail oriented experience, you might not get that.

Visited London and tried Petrus with my Mum and sister. We tried the “discovery of Petrus” menu. I felt a bit uncomfortable eating at this place because of the rudeness of the waiters. They came off pretty racist as they gave us a different treatment than the other people that were dining in as well. As an asian person, i never thought race would be a problem eating in a fine dining. Whilst serving each dish, the waiters would stare my mum and my sister and would occasionally laugh. AND no, they didn’t even bother trying to hide that they were laughing at us. This happened not once but multiple times. It would’ve been a great dining experience if we did not have to feel unwelcome by the waiters. The tasting menu went on for 3 hours, nonetheless the food was great!

Towards the end of last year I was fortune enough to travel to the UK for a few weeks. I had booked my return flight to London and decided to include some stops in Dublin, Belfast, Edinburgh and Inverness too. After all, it’s not every day that one travels 9 000km to the Northern Hemisphere ;-) I remember the excitement I felt as the departure date of my trip closed in. I had planned to visit my family – who live on the Isle of Sheppey (about a two hour train trip from central London) – do some sightseeing, take the hop on hop off city buses (I love doing this when I travel – such a great way to see and experience a city), a little bit of shopping and of course some good food EATING! One of the very first restaurants my benedict and I booked for – and I mean months in advance – was Gordon Ramsay’s Michelin-star restaurant, Petrus. This was something we had both always wanted to do; it was sort of a ‘bucket list’ type treat to be able to eat at Petrus. And what an amazing experience it was.

I still haven’t figured out how to get into Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, the three Michelin starred showpiece restaurant that’s rated as one of the UK’s best.  Every time I’ve travelled to London, I’ve attempted a booking, on any day for lunch or dinner and have been stymied at every turn.  There must be a secret code or website that only the well heeled know about; I wish I knew about it!

I went to have lunch with my friend and we decided to have set lunch menu. For the starter we had foie gras parfait. It was really nice but the parfait tastes too strong in my own opinion even when you eat it with bread. For the main course we both had slow cooked pork which was very lovely and tender. To close I had choux and my friend had chocolate cake. The choux was surely one of the best (I think it is quite similar with maitre choux). Yet, I did not try my friend's cake so I could not give any review for the chocolate cake

Pétrus is a restaurant under the Gordon Ramsay group but one which does not receive much in terms of publicity since its opening back in 2010. For those who have been around the London dining scene for a long time, you may remember that Pétrus was also the name of a restaurant located in the Berkeley Hotel, under one Marcus Wareing. After a much publicised spat and ‘divorce’, Wareing kept the original restaurant site, renamed it Restaurant Marcus Wareing (now simply Marcus) and Gordon kept the restaurant name Pétrus. Thus Pétrus in its current iteration was born. With its opening, Gordon had brought in his big guns, with Mark Askew (his then Group Executive Head Chef) and Sean Burbidge, tasked to ensure Michelin success. The restaurant went on to win a Michelin star in the next iteration of the guide, which it has kept ever since, but reviews on the internet, particularly from the blogging community have been ambivalent at best. The cooking these days is led by National Chef of the Year winner, Larry Jayasekara.

Expensive, but WORTH IT. I mean, it is not a restaurant anyone would hope to be cheap anyway. First of all, as expected: really good service. The only bad thing is we waited quite a bit between courses. I had the festive menu of: confit Loch Duart salmon, beef wellington, and chocolate and hazelnut parfait. They were all beautifully plated. We got complimentary consomme, delicious butter (from a famous butter maker if I may add), and sourdough bread. In the end we also got chocolate and caramel truffle which was very good.<br/><br/>Now the main dishes. The salmon was just okay, until I combined it with a little bit of everything on the plate: cucumber sauce, cream cheese, and wasabi sorbet. The flavours blend perfectly well. But if you like smooth foie gras and crispy chicken skin, I suggest trying the other appetizer since I tried my friend's and it was MORE delicious.<br/><br/>The beef wellington was really good, with well seasoned pastry, ham, mushroom covering, and pink fillet. Together with the bordelaise sauce it was stunning.<br/><br/>I love coffee, so I ordered the parfait which was really good. The jelly was tiny though. If you love dark chocolate, get the chocolate cremeux.

Visited this place for our anniversary dinner and it was an outstanding experience. Everything from the food, décor, staff and service was fantastic. We decided to eat from a la carte menu. Grilled Scottish lobster with asparagus lasagna was amazing, great in taste and very nicely presented. Desserts were good, especially black forest mousse. I must say they have a brilliant menu and a great wine list. This place is worth a visit. Highly recommended by us!

I went with my colleagues at this restaurant for a meeting. When we arrived at our reservation time, we were told that our table was ready. This was no problem, as we got to order some champagne with three complementary small dishes. We had the tasting menu with some great highlights and some of them on the average/good. Taking in consideration the price levels and reputation of the restaurant, we expected sublime dishes. The service was otherwise divine. Highly recommended.

Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant. One Michelin star. Reasonably-priced set lunch menu. Need I say more.<br/><br/>From the outside there’s nothing special about the restaurant, in fact we almost walked pass it. But once you enter you know that you’re in for a treat. The dining room is in a shape of a circle with tables dotted around the edge, with another circle in the middle where more tables running along the line, and finally right in the middle is an impressive looking wine cellar.<br/><br/>The waiting staff are either native French or able to speak fluent French. Maybe not surprising as they serve French food. Still, we find this fascinating.<br/><br/>Everything is cooked to perfection and exquisitely presented.

As part of my Christmas present my lovely fiancé promised me dinner at a Michelin-starred restaurant of my choice - a brilliant present given I love eating out, but obviously probably wouldn't book super-expensive restaurants very often at all. I chose Pétrus following a recent grudging fondness for Gordon Ramsay, an ongoing crush on Marcus Wareing and recommendations from various bloggers. So off we went!Pétrus is in London's posh Knightsbridge area, is owned by Ramsay, was run by Wareing under whom it gained 2 Michelin stars, and is now headed by Sean Burbage, another Ramsay protégé who by most accounts is doing a fabulous job. The restaurant is dominated by a huge wine cellar in the middle, and the setting is formal with white tablecloths, thick carpet and a hushed atmosphere. There are set menu options available but we opted for the a la carte. We were served an amuse bouche of tiny crackers with smooth, rich mushroom pate, miniature mushrooms on toast and tiny pieces of sweetbread served on sticks in their own smoker, followed by a pre-starter course of creamy butternut squash velouté with oats and crème fraiche. These were a lovely touch and set the scene for some heroic starters and mains. We ordered the Alaskan and Cornish crab with yuzu and lemongrass consommé - the crab was delicious, so flavoursome and complimented perfectly by the Asian tang of lemongrass and yuzu. We also had the Aberdeen Angus tartare with truffle and quail's egg, which was served like a beautiful little garden, to the point where I felt quite bad eating it. That was short lived though, as was the dish - the meat was soft and ideal with the tiny pickles and mushrooms, and I could've easily polished it off again. For mains we went for Anjou pigeon with smoked onion purée, served with a mini pigeon pie on the side; the pie made the dish, it was so strong and smoky, with perfectly cooked meat. The main dish was beautifully presented and the various incarnations of onion kept it interesting. And honestly, what isn't made better with a little pie?! The loin of venison was also incredible, cooked perfectly pink and served with braised celery filled with bread sauce, truffle and little fried sweetbreads, with a rich, shiny jus over the meat. The venison was out of this world, it absolutely melted, and the other elements were fun, delicious and pretty much perfect.I'm a bit of a cheese freak (who isn't) so the idea of a CART of cheese was too good to resist. The waiter was very patient while I dithered and eventually chose ash-coated goat's cheese, a creamy dolcelatte, hard French sheep's cheese and soft camembert-like one to finish off. I wish I could remember what they were all called but I was excited and impatient to dig in so admittedly wasn't paying enough attention. Suffice to say they were all amazing.Ian went for a coconut ice cream with pineapple granita, chargrilled pineapple and little blobs of creamy coconut sauce. Imagine a pina colada if it was made solid and touched by angels and you're there. We finished off with little ice cream balls served in dry ice, a great note to finish on.Service was as you'd expect from a Michelin starred restaurant - discreet, unobtrusive and almost reverent. It seems as if personality is something that is discouraged among staff though; I understand that fine dining is serious business in these parts, but they could have been a bit more smiley perhaps.I'm not sure exactly what the bill came to as I was being treated, but I'm sure it was upwards of £200. Certainly not what you want to be spending on dinner every week, or month for that matter. But for a very occasional special lunch or dinner Pétrus is a gorgeous, romantic restaurant that I will be recommending to everyone I speak to.

This is a beautiful restaurant, with the best service and the amazing glass wine cellar in the middle of the restaurant. It's not cheap, but for a special occasion it's definitely worth it. My only slight complaint was my lobster was a little overcooked apart from that everything was perfect. They also have the best after dinner mints ever, you get a whole box of homemade ones!

I've written a few posts about my local area, that is the terrific trio made up of Victoria, Pimlico and Belgravia or SW1. It really isn't an area known for foodie hotspots; it doesn't have the celebrity-filled dining rooms of Mayfair, the trendy eateries of Shoreditch or the quirky restaurants of Soho. But my little corner of Westminster has a ton of foodie finds round every corner. Eclectic restaurants like No.11 Pimlico Road , boutique sushi stops like UNI , fabulous purveyors of fish like Oliviomare or innovative tapas at Ametsa . There's also lots of gorgeous artisan food shops and bakeries such as William Curley, Peggy Porschen and Daylesford Organic. The area is a really great a mix of different restaurants, including many lovely independent places, you just need to know where to look.  A jewel in the crown of the SW1 area is Gordon Ramsay's Petrus. Straddling the boundaries of Belgravia and Knightsbridge, Petrus is located in Belgrave Square, one of my favourite areas in London

A jewel in the crown of the SW1 area is Gordon Ramsay's Petrus. Straddling the boundaries of Belgravia and Knightsbridge, Petrus is located in Belgrave Square, one of my favourite areas in London. The Herve Leger flagship boutique is located there, a well as fab make up shop Cosmetics A La Carte and best of all... the Christian Louboutin Shop...<br/><br/>Speaking of which, we had to stop for a quick photo opp to show how my red dress matched my red soles...<br/><br/>And Mr Silver never lets me steal the limelight, even though it's my blog, so I got a snap of him too. A few people have suggested Mr S has his own fashion spot on SilverSpoon...trust me he's pretty keen for this to go ahead! <br/><br/>Holding one Michelin star and serving a menu of Modern French cuisine, Petrus really is special occasion dining. But we were here just because that's how we roll at lunchtime... no not really, we'd been given a voucher as a gift for lunch there and with our busy year of the wedding, honeymoon, other people's weddings and parties our voucher was about to expire and we obviously couldn't miss this gastronomic treat.

Petrus held the elusive number 1 restaurant in London spot from a well-known review site for a while, and keen to introduce my non-foodie bloke to Michelin star dining, we booked a table for lunch with a couple friend of ours. <br/>The food was exceptional - the stand-out was the ravioli starter which was delicate, light and scrumptious. Desserts were truly impressive also, with the famous chocolate phd (with surprise) a must-eat. The lunch menu is good value, at £35 for three courses though obviously with wine, extras and this soon adds up. <br/>We personally found the ambience a little too stuffy and formal for us, and found ourselves being very conscious of our wine-fuelled loud chatter and laughter. But if thats your thing, you'll love Petrus.

I have fond memories of Petrus.. I was here a couple of years ago for lunch and dinner and it was amazing. Petrus is a one Michelin star restaurant run by an infamous celebrity chef.<br/><br/>The last time I was here the food was amazing especially the beef wellington but unfortunately today they don’t have that special memorial dish…In fine dining standards, a complimentary nibble is given as this beetroot mousse and crostini is one of the best.. Sweet, slight sour and airy with the crisp biscuits with a hint of foie gras were delicious..<br/><br/>With that went so well, let see what is they have to offer… Today I went for the 3 course a la carte lunch menu at around £65 which gives you more dishes to choose than the standard lunch menu at £35 per person.. While the chef’s menu of 5 courses will set you at around £75. <br/><br/>For starters we got Ballentine of Landes foie gras with semi dried grapes, hazelnut and green beans, lobster and salmon ravioli with sea aster with champagne and chive veloute and poached ducks eggs with confit leg and truffle polenta. The ravioli and foie gras Ballentine was luscious, rich and delicious… Right notes of flavours and delicate, great starter.. For the ducks eggs it was perfectly poached and creamy but the polenta truffle had a nice perfume but the texture was abit too grainy and duck overly salty. For mains were roast duck with confit leg, granola and szechuan pepper jus, roasted venison with braised red cabbage, smoked chestnut purée and elderberry jus and chicken breast with poached legs. <br/><br/>The mains however weren’t as impressive as the starters and I was quite disappointed… The chicken breast was overcooked and dry, the duck was also overcooked and dry when ordered at medium rare.. The wow factor just wasn’t there.. The venison was good, the elderberry and cabbage really goes well with the venison. <br/><br/>But the dessert was faultless.. Chocolate sphere covering milk ice cream and honeycomb and melted away by the hot chocolate sauce was luxurious and indulging…The selection of sorbets were refreshing… The raspberries were bursting with sweet and sour, the peach was mild and delicate..Petrus was a roller-coaster ride, from the rise of great starters to the disappointment of the mains and to high end to the meal from those decadent desserts.. If the mains were as good as the beginning and the end, this would have been a really really great meal..

We can't really fault the food at Petrus, it achieves its goal, but as a restaurant whose patron not only lives in LA but lives the LA lifestyle, the restaurant badly needs someone within the restaurant to stamp their character on it for the feeling is otherwise sterile. No one, as far as we could tell, has yet stepped up to the plate in that respect and the result is another Ramsay cookie-cutter restaurant.   Many of those writing on new Petrus when it reopened in March 2010 felt that everything here was done to appeal to Michelin and if so, it worked, for the restaurant got its star in the 2011 guide. Business-wise, we're not sure we can even fault that approach: open classic French restaurant in Knightsbridge, ensure it gets a Michelin star and people will come. And indeed they have, for on two previous occasions that we have sought to book a last minute lunch here, no can do, they have been full. Ramsay has three stars at Hospital Road, is friends with the Beckhams and has even app

We went for lunch and opted for the set 3 course menu. The selection was super, presentation devin, and taste out of this world. We also had an interesting starter and sorbet between courses. <br/><br/>They were kind enough to serve the kids a reduced portion of fish.

we dined at Petrus last week with a mixed review, the setting is great, the food was good, but the star level without, however, the service was too<br/>stuffy or pedantic.<br/>we used to do triple starred and we really thought the service was limited for example, the French server but continues to speak English because you are in England restaurants.<br/>tour of the kitchen after the meal that does nothing, Gordon Ramsay being elsewhere.<br/>short, we dined well but you feel that you are the star in addition to handle

We have heard so much about the restaurant and it really met our expectations.<br/>All details are thought of and the staff is really outstanding. Went there with my mother and friend for lunch and they both loved it. At the end, they showed us the kitchen and my mother even got a small birthday cake with a candle. Great food, great service, great ambiance. Would really recommend for a special occasion or if you just want to treat yourself!

This is a great restaurant to go to for a special event. The service is impeccable as expected. The staff are truly welcoming and attentive. The staff also answered all our questions happily and offered menu suggestions. We went with the a la carte 3 courses. The food was served very beautifully. Since we were celebrating a birthday, we were given a macaroon with a candle. The plate holding the macaroon said Happy Birthday. Definitely a place I would visit again!

<br/>The lunch was of a fantastic quality with wonderful flavours – I put the dessert failure down to perhaps expecting something that was in fact never intended. As well as inventive and exciting dishes, it’s the staff that also make these experiences what they are. And it was one of great pleasure. I recommend a visit and if you have any spare change, perhaps indulge in that 1945 bottle.

If ever you wanted great food and a busy team of waitstaff that worked wonderfully as an attentive team to ensure you got the best experience, Petrus is an excellent choice. We were treated much like royals from the moment we stepped in, greeted like we were the most important guests there, coats taken away in a flourish and seats pulled out for us in a lovely manner.<br/>

The dishes here are intricate and at the same time clean and coolly logical, flavours orderly working as a team and not against each other. This is impressive modern fine cuisine, executed spotlessly and with perfect judgement. There is a certain clinical air about the dishes, a certain lack of aggression that some perhaps might not find exciting; but as far as we are concerned, on the palate judgement we were blown away by the harmony of it all. The dishes here please you rather than challenge you. We’ll settl

Had the set lunch. Rabbit cannelloni was delicious with complex flavours. Suffolk pork belly with black pudding was well-cooked and perfectly crispy, without any sign of fat. Chocolate sphere for dessert was messy but an amazing spectacle. Service extremely attentive and disarming. Wine list extensive and affordable, with various wines available by the glass. Highly recommended and excellent value for money.

I’m sure you can tell I enjoyed this meal immensely, and I think I’ve been to quite a<br/>few good restaurants in london, enough to say this is one of the best meals I’ve had,<br/>and it wins in service, ambience, food and the great experience I was able to show<br/>my visiting friend. just brilliant.

Initially I wanted to splash it at the 3 Michelin star Gordon Ramsay at Hospital Road, but as I am not organised enough to make a reservation in due time ahead, I decided to try Petrus in Knightsbridge instead (reservation on the day possible). The food was good but far from being spectacular. 1 of 2 dishes in each course was Michelin star quality while the other disappointed, so in the end I would not go back necessarily for the food. However, in this review I will talk very little about my gastronomical experience, but about being ripped off in high end restaurants. Pan-fried scallops with granny smith and truffles I wonder - did I overreact? I don't know, you tell me… Here is the story: At Petrus, we order a £42 wine from the extensive but massively ove

Gordon Wins Again!. Superb food, superb place, superb service. While Maze is still good, Petrus has the edge.

...the cooking was technically faultless, but lacked any fireworks. Formulaic is a word that has been bandied about quite a lot in relation to the Ramsay group of late, and if Pétrus is anything to go by, I am very inclined to agree. There was certainly no real creativity or ingenuity in evidence this evening.

Of course it was good. But in a way which makes me say “of course” rather than “OH MY GOD”. It’s like it’s good enough that you don’t refuse to pay. But if the bill had been full price, I think it would have been harder to swallow. If it’s a special occasion, there are places which would be more memorable and privileged.

The new Petrus is practically opposite Amaya in Belgravia. The room has a central wine cabinet feature and is mostly beige in colour, with the odd flash of colour on wall panels; I am pleased to see carpet in a restaurant these days, meaning that the nois
