Heliot Steakhouse is located within the infamous Hippodrome Casino in London’s buzzing Leicester Square, and boasts the title of ‘London’s Best Steakhouse’ as voted by the customers of Bookatable 2015. It’s a bit of a hidden gem, as it serves up the finest of USDA prime steaks at pretty reasonable prices in comparison to some other ritzy steakhouses in Central London, with prices starting at just £13 for a juicy rump steak.
From start to finish, presentation to flavour, every part of the meal at Heliot Steak House was simply perfect. Heliot Steak House Review. I’m starting to look like a bit of a gambler. In my last two reviews I’ve been out to the cinema to see X-Men with BGO Games and to Heliot Steak House at London’s Hippodrome Casino. Not normally being much a gambler or having visited any of London’s casino’s before, this was my first trip to the Hippodrome Casino on London’s Leicester Square. Not having eaten in a casino restaurant before i wasn’t sure what to expect, though I did hope for a bit of good old glitz and glamour. The Hippodrome Casino and Heliot Steak House exceeded my expectations.
Atmosphere here is not for everyone as it is in the Hippodrome and overlooking all of the casino, while the dining room itself I would describe as dim bordering on dark. The steak however is very adequate (USDA prime) with prices around half of what other steakhouses have for similar quality of beef. (Places like Cut, STK, etc.) I found everything I had with the exception of a side of mushrooms adequate. (Steak, salmon starter, mac 'n' cheese.)
No brilliant highs, but everything was cooked capably and the value for money is extremely, extremely high. Definitely the cheapest USDA prime beef you will find in the area.
To be quite honest, when I think of casinos, brunch (and food in general) is pretty far from my mind. Most of my casino experiences have occurred around 3am when it’s closing time at the bar and nowhere else is serving booze. (don’t judge me, you’ve totally been in that situation too). I’ve always been aware of The Hippodrome casino, in plain sight the second you step off the tube in Leicester Square – but I didn’t realise there was a restaurant inside, let alone one serving up brunch. Thankfully, Yelp were on hand to introduce me to Heliot and it’s brunch-y delights.
It’s official, I’m a filthy animal. Well sort of, but more so because over the last week I’ve in total consumed just over two kilos of steak. Anyone would think I’m on the atkins diet but instead I’m just plain greedy and the promise of quality steak the size of my head just can’t be ignored. Mid-way into my kilo’s of meat week we found ourselves at Heliot Steakhouse. A place I first visited when it opened back in February 2013 and honestly, I hated it. They had everything wrong and had no idea what they were doing – it wasn’t even a steakhouse back then. But now you ask? Well it’s completely unrecognisable. It still looks the same but the menu and the food offering is completely different – oh and the cocktails are simply delicious.

Girly nights out have been a real blessing recently - time with old friends, where you chat about everything and nothing for hours and hours. One of these recent evenings was spent with Georgie at Leicester Square's Hippodrome Casino - a huge, 24 hour casino, that houses two floors of gaming, as well as a lovely restaurant - the Heliot Steakhouse - and a theatre that hosts up to two shows a night. We went along to try it all out, starting with dinner at the Heliot.
Leicester Square is not a part of London that springs to mind when considering quality dining options and a casino in Leicester Square is one of the most unlikely places we thought we would find ourselves enjoying an impressive dinner. We were invited to The Heliot Steak House in the Hippodrome Casino to sample some of their menu items and must admit that the meal challenged our preconceived notions about casino dining.
So we got to visit the casinos recently and try the amazing Heliot Steak House. This place was visually stunning inside and had some mouthwatering food. A new favourite?. So after being shown from the door through the casino to our table we sat down for a night of fine dining and drinking. Steak is potentially my favourite food but I was exposed to so many different flavours that night that proved that Heliot is more than a Steak House.
I must have walked past this building a zillion times, but never really fancied the world of gambling in the slightest. However this one evening when hanging out with a bunch of friends, we found ourselves toying with the idea of exploring the innards of what seems to be very bright and flashy building from outside, and weren't we surprised.
Yes it's a casino, so once we enter, the ground floor has betting tables and slot machines crowded with people from across the world. Since this place has been fashioned out of a theatre from the past era, we could walk up the stairs to a viewing balcony which had the restaurant and bar. We were there at about 8pm,which was still pretty early as the lounge and cabaret rooms were practically deserted, while the bar and restaurant was just filling up.
The waiting staff was very prompt and particular about using coasters for our drinks :) and ensured we had some light bites on our tables all the time. Just before we decided to pack up and move elsewhere, we got a preview of cabaret show that was going to happen later that evening, with performers dressed in racy police outfits dancing to the beats.
Interesting evening indeed :)
Absoluletly mind blowing Steak. I have a T-bone steak that has my mouth watering just thinking about it.
I never really stepped foot into the Hippodrome in Leicester Square as I am not a huge gambling man. After an invite to review the the restaurant there (which I didn't even know existed) I thought I would give it a try. The place is so much more than a casino, the building is stunning inside and the restaurant has a wonderful view across the casino floor.
The steak, as I mentioned before was beautiful enough to make a grown man cry and the rest of the food was super great too.
The cocktails on offer are really reasonably priced so you can get your James Bond on with a Martini and head to the poker tables if you're feeling lucky!
If you are a steak fan you need to go here.

Most real Londoners will tell you to stay away from Leicester Square – unless you enjoy being harassed by club promoters. We however decided to give the square another shot and were pleasantly surprised when we stumbled upon Heliot Steakhouse. This alluring eatery –nestled in the Hipodrome casino– offers quite a few tasty options, as well as an impressive view on all the games.
We highly recommend that you start your meal with the beautiful seared scallops (£9) served with a sweet apple puree and pink grapefruit for that perfect acidic balance. As for mains, it’s all about the steak. Whether you’re more of a fillet or rib eye (£19) type of person, their USDA prime steak will get you drooling. And if you manage to leave a bit of room for dessert, the almond layered pastry served with mascarpone and summer berries (£6.50) is totally worth the bloat.
Not ready to call it a night? Check out the casino’s theatre for an entertaining experience or head to Lola’s, their sensual underground casino – where anything can happen.
I've eaten here a few times now first time I had a vegetarian meal that I can't even remember what it was but I remember having the most incredible food envy of the person next to me. They had a surf and turf and I finally tried it the other day. The sauce it came with was so tasty and complemented the steak very well and it came in a cute little pot. I did get extra pepper sauce which was also just as good so I kept on alternating the sauces.
The portion looked small but it was very filling I actually struggled at the end. I also had sides that I shared with friends. We had the fries, mash, spinach, mushrooms and my favourite mac and cheese between the four of us which was more than enough.
When ever I come here with new people they are always surprised that they serve decent food in a Casino. And it has a fantastic atmosphere, the restaurant over looks the Casino and sometimes there is a small performance by a group of attractive ladies and surprisingly most of the men did not notice as they were busy gambling.
I do like eating here and it is a good place to go last minute as I usually have no problems booking a table on the day for a large group even on a Saturday. Which is very good for central London as some places you have to book 2 weeks in advance. Also they have many bars scattered throughout the casino so it's a good place to drink after. We were given £30 worth of gambling chips that I placed on the roulette table that I turned into £50 I did have £90 but got too greedy.
I usually spend around £30-40 on food and a bottle of wine that I share with a friend which is an average price for that area. There are better places nearby for around the same price, but every time I go there food and the service has always been good it's a great place to get drinks after. Also it's a great place to go after a night out as it's open 24/7 and you can wait for your cab instead of waiting in the cold.
I’ve walked by The Hippodrome Casino at Leicester Square a zillion times. Not a gambling man, I never thought there was much inside the large scale and lavish venue for me. However, taking up an invitation to give Hippodrome’s food, booze and entertainment a try, I discovered there’s more to this Central London landmark than gambling.
Dinner at Heliot Steakhouse – inside the casino with in-the-round seating above the main gaming floor – was much more of an indulgent treat than I had expected. A starter course of baby gem salad with blue cheese and caramelised pecans (£5) was delish, and I thoroughly loved my 18oz slab of USDA Prime beef rib on the bone (done medium rare, £26). Accompanying steak sauces were just okay in all honesty, as were the sides (£3 each) that I tried, such as fairly yummy fries and a so-so mac and cheese.
My dining compadres (Kemey and I did a Friday night double date with dynamic duo Krista and David from London blog, neon) seemed as pleased or more with their assortment of dishes. Although, if you’re not headed to Heliot in the mood for a steak you might be a little underwhelmed by the menu. But if you ever find yourself hankering a quality cut in Central London, by all means keep this place in mind. Indeed, I reckon its claim to have the “best value USDA Prime steak in town” is probably true.
A bottle of Armenian red wine – Zorah Karasi, Areni Noir, 2012 – (as suggested by our server Theo, £70) was an intriguing and commendable quaff. Service was delightful and prompt throughout our meal. I got a kick out of dining in such a buzzing venue. Keen to catch some live performance and grab a cocktail, we skipped dessert and headed across the casino to its cabaret theatre.
We saw two shows – a “kinkier and naughtier” Vaudeville 8pm act called Sensual Dreams and “exotic night time extravaganza” Boom & Bang Circus at 11pm. Both were immensely enjoyable providing lots of laughs via highly entertaining lowbrow performance.
Service was good during performances. Cocktails cost £10; I was pleased with the Old Fashioned enough to order a second one. The Hippodrome has live acts performing most nights of the week and predominately of the burlesque and cabaret variety.
Bottom line? A great steak and some saucy entertainment on a Friday night with close friends was a superb way to kick off my weekend. I’m happy to recommend The Hippodrome as a safe bet for a fun night out.
Came here 28th July and this is the best steak I think I have had. It was cooked perfectly it was a gorgeous chunk of fillet. Tables are on a balcony area and overlook the casino. I hadn't been into the hippodrome since I was a teenager when it was a nightclub so it was quite nice to reminisce with my friend. Food and the service were surprisingly good. I don't have a clue about gambling so ended up asking one of the security team what to do with my complimentary chip. I put it on black and lost!

If we were to tell you that we had a great night out at the Hippodrome, you’d probably think we were a little crazy and/or drunk!
To be honest if this review was done a few years back we would have to agree with you. I last had the displeasure of staggering out of the Hippodrome after a work’s awards night and was left with the memories of a dark somehow claustrophobic nightclub with damp, sticky carpets and overpriced drinks… Not good!
But all that has changed and the recently opened Hippodrome Casino is now a spacious, welcoming and reasonably priced venue in the heart of the West End that’s open 24/7. The casino operates an over 21 policy and if you’re lucky enough to look under 25 be prepared (and flattered) to be asked to show some ID. Other than that you’re free to wander in without the inconvenience of having to sign up and become a member.

Overall, good atmosphere, good food.
Good table service, however have not given a 5 because there is room for improvement to serve guests into the building and to their table. As there was a fair bit of waiting when the restaurant wasn't busy.
If it was not for that final point, it would be 5 star all round. Regardless, highly recommended for interesting dinning experience.
Thank you for last night
Your staff are brilliant and happy
Steak and lobster was delicious and the desserts was a lovely touch.
Our group enjoyed it so much
Must try the XXL cocktails
The perfectly cooked steak with a seared crust on the outside and a pink, tender center.
The combination of the rich, meaty steak and the delicate, sweet lobster creates a harmonious flavor contrast thats both satisfying.
If you visit, be prepared for an exceptional experience, the attentive and friendly staff paired with a skilled chef will ensure that both the steak and lobster are cooked to perfection.
The amazing steak house within the casino. Fully occupied during the evening. Food was lovely and can’t complain how well medium rare the steak was cooked. Nice combination of steak and lobster. 😋 yummy
Delicious restaurant amazing service, we were lucky to be waited on by a lovely Portuguese waitress!
Lobster was amazing so was the meat!
Our drinks and special menu was lovely!
The only unique thing was that it was inside of a Casino, that can be glamorous or a bit trashy as there are many people drinking.
It was a fun and much recommended experience overall.
Steak was seriously impressive. There were some oddities in the service though. I thought it was the kind of place that you wouldn’t usually go to unless someone else is paying.
A lot of thought has gone in to the presentation of the food. It’s inside the Hippodrome casino so perhaps the customers want flashy, over the top presentation. The restaurant delivers that with beautiful bowls and dishes that come frothing with with dry ice.
The Ocean Plate was nice but came with the wrong kind of soy sauce IMHO. Sushi is usually paired with a much lighter soy sauce. I had the 350g ribeye and it was some of the best steak I have ever had. Chimichurri sauce was nice. There are many steak options on the menu but most of them were unavailable (supply chain issues?). The side of chips and the side of carrots and peas were slightly dry. For dessert I went for the Mango Baked Alaska. It turned out to be a somewhat deconstructed variant that looked like something that had been run over by a motorbike, smoke still streaming from the box it was served on.
The restaurant occupies three or so steppes overlooking a gaming floor. The spaces are narrow and loud and chaotic. Staff did a great job considering the environment but this is not somewhere you would want to go for a romantic evening. The service is oddly rigid as well. We had made two separate sets of bookings and it would have made sense to combine them into one booking but this didn’t happen. At least we got both groups sitting in the same area. You also aren’t allowed to order starters for your group and then decide on mains later. All food must be ordered at once by the whole group (they made an exception for one member of our group who was arriving later). There was no particular explanation given for this. The restaurant did not seem understaffed; there was an army of waiting staff on hand to deliver food and open bottles of wine.
Delicious food with great service. Cool atmosphere with the casino right there. I recommend it.
Fantastic! We went post performance, but they have a pre-performance menu which is very good value for money. The food was great, and even though the venue was full, we were able to chat, much easier to chat than in a pub. Service was exceptional! Very professional, all round. Thanks!
We had a great time eating delicious food , service was quick and very friendly, Atmosphere was awesome 👌
The atmosphere was very nice, our waiter was very friendly and hospitable, the starter of grilled octopus with potatoes was beautiful, the steak and lobster was the best I’ve eaten yet!!
Delicious 28 day aged USDA prime ribeye steak. It’s so tender and meaty! The scallops are nice and yummy too!
Outstanding service and food was top notch. I’m usually wary of ordering lobster because they are tiny little things. But my surf and turf was tip top and plenty of lobster. Nikolay our server was a fantastic host and looked after our every need. Well done team Heliots!!!!

Delicious time at the heliot steak house. Made a very last minute reservation and it didn’t disappoint. The wait staff were extremely helpful and more than happy to provide recommendations. They truly listed the experience we had. To top that off the food was delicious and would happily go back again!
My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The service was nice and polite. The steak was top marks. I want to go back! The meal deal we paid for was total value for money and did not feel cheap at all. I am 110% impressed. Thank you, Heliot. We had a great time.
The service here was excellent, our waiter was very attentive and friendly. The surf & turf deal is great value, delicious steaks! Loved the views over the casino too.
Great food, service and atmosphere. Love the fact you can see the casino from the seats too. Awesome and current music plays in the background at the same time. Creates a really nice fun, happy vibe as well as classy and relaxing from the attention paid by the wait staff. The food is great, service is even better. Additionally, I love a place that can actually give recommendations when you ask for them (off the menu recommendations of course) instead of giving the "depends on what you like" response.
Especially impressed with staff member Pietro who was wonderful and attentive but also good fun to talk to as well. We loved it here. Highly recommend.
Just an FYI we also had two couples around us that made it known they come here regularly on a special night due to the great food and service and are never disappointed!
