Solid tea with an innovative menu based on classics. Sandwiches and scones were incredible. Desserts were hit or miss and it seemed like presentation mattered more than taste. My wife loves tea and I love coffee. It helps that Emmeline's has great coffee and an even better selection of tea. Between proximity to the flat we were staying in and the experience I would come back.

We dined in the Emmeline’s Lounge on a quiet Friday afternoon for their Broadway afternoon tea. It comprises four plates: savouries, finger sandwiches, scones and dessert. I always enjoy a good prawn mayo so the prawn marie rose on a brioche bun took my vote. The chefs are innovative in their choices; I’ve never eaten walnut loaf before! Nor have I paired clotted cream with lemon curd on a scone. A true game changer. Their curd is creamy and spreads easily on the warm scones. I can’t recommend the Lion King dessert enough. A wonderful merge of textures/flavours including yuzu! A good sencha too. Chairs here are made for you to lean back and savour the menu! My only concern was that the waiter didn’t pass through the restaurant as often as I’d like. Perhaps because there was only one other couple eating too. Nevertheless, he was jovial when serving. This AT doesn’t break the bank and is truly delicious.

The highlight of our weekend in London for sure. We were looking for a nice afternoon tea that was not too expensive and was also friendly for someone that is gluten free. The atmosphere was fancy but not pretentious and there was live music during our tea. All of the food and treats were delicious and unsurprisingly the tea was also amazing. I was on expat in Europe for 6 months, and when I think back over all the best experiences I had this afternoon tea easily falls in the top 3. I cannot recommend this place enough.
