BEST #KATSU IN TOWN 🔥

🍴 @tanakatsulondon is one of my favourite Japanese restaurants. We always order the original Chicken Katsu Curry and the delicious Chicken Katsu & Chicken Teriyaki 🍗🥢 But today we also wanted to 'change' and tried for the first time Chiken Katsu Set, with prawn Katsu and pumpkin croquette, and the Beef Teriyaki and crispy boiled eggs (one of our special dishes). Delicious! 😍💖
Literally one of the best experiences we had in London. Amazing food and amazing service. Our waitress Ting was so so nice and kind and recommended amazing dishes. We had the gyoza, the katsu mix, the karaage and the salmon teriyaki and all of them were so insanely good. The gyoza and the salmon were the most surprising. Never had salmon so tender yet so crispy. The dessert was heaven, especially the chocolate truffle mochi. I cant wait to go again when I am in London.
The place itself is rather casual and unseenming.
However, all the dishes I've tried have were just terrific. Since my first visit here, I've visited almost every other day I've been in London. I've grown especially fand of their Chicken Katsu and Salmon Teriyaki :)
All the staff seemed genuinely friendly and were very attentive.
I can warmly recommend visiting here.
Great food and service! Would highly recommend.
We started with the sushi which was good value for the price point. The prawn roll was really enjoyable and each piece had a different piece of fish on it.
The mains were really strong with the chicken katsu being really crispy and the salmon teriyaki being really flavourful. I would recommend asking for some katsu curry sauce on the side to have with the chicken as it can get a little dry.
The mochi was very good and had a great balance of sweetness and richness.
Tanakatsu are indeed specialists of Katsu - I went with the main Katsu curry dish and was blown away by the taste of the dish and the portion size. Loved that there was infinite cabbage salad, you could ask for more throughout the meal.
They also have a delicious dressing which goes so well with the rice and the cabbage salad. You can even buy bottles to take home with you!
Service was good, but could have been slightly faster as we waited a whole for our drinks and then our food.
Some might say, this place is the best Japanese katsu place in the UK, and I agree. Great menu (simple yet effective) plus good portion reflecting the price point. It is not cheap to dine here, but not expensive either, which makes me come back often. Delicious food, reasonable price, great service- what more can I ask! :)
we went on a weekday evening with no booking and got a table.
really simple menu and also everything was basically the same price.
we ordered the pork katsu set and upgraded one of the pork sets to a more expensive pork but we couldn't really tell the difference between the two so I wouldn't say that it's worth it.
nice ambience and interior!
First time and what a lovely neighborhood find.
We arrived with an hr. before closing and staff was friendly and seated us right away.
A nice selection of katsu, sushi, sashimi, and sides.
Everything tasted yummy. Katsu was crispy, sashimi was fresh and with a good variety of fish and vegetables. The gyoza were lightly crispy with a soft chewy texture.
A definite must try is their signature Koko’s Mighty Dressing that goes with everything especially their bottomless cabbage salad. They sell this separately l for 6.50.
All in all, a lovely place for a good meal.
When tanakatsu say they specialise in katsu and teryaki, they really mean it 👀
Absolutely LOVED how you could combine any version of teryaki or katsu on one plate. Swipe to see the menu 👉
They said the cabbage was bottomless, which would have been amazing, but once the food was put down, the service pretty much ended 😞
Epic food however, all super fresh. Even their dressing for the cabbage was made daily with the option to buy a bottle to take home 😍
The order:
Teriyaki salmon & katsu chicken - £17.95 X 2
Katsu chicken & teryaki chicken - £17.95

Wow! It's a real authentic Japanese place which is quite rare to find outside of Japan! Food is delicious! It's cooked and served "as in Japan", honestly. I used to live in Japan for a few years so I know how food should look and taste. :) I recommend this place. Add it to your TODO list if you have not done it yet!
P.S. My personal recommendation is pork katsu. If you've been to Japan and know what tonkatsu is then try it here, you will not be disappointed!
