Delicious steak, nice little underground setting with a great industrial feel to it. Service is always on point, polite and friendly. I find during business lunches it can be very loud - but other than that, you can't go wrong!

What could've easily been a two star rating, was turned into a four based on fantastic service of the staff and simply a great steak. Unbelievable food this place really does it well.I placed a phone call to this location to make my reservation for 8 PM Saturday the 15th, on Friday, February 14th. Upon arrival Saturday night, I was told that my reservation was for 11 PM. And that I had booked it for 11pm. Ummm there kitchen closes at 10:30pm. I know exactly what I did. I know exactly how our conversation booking this went. There wasn't even a mention of 11 PM. There was a mention of 8 PM for the booking, and there was a mention of 12:30 AM you have until you have to leave the premises. I disputed this because I know exactly what I did. My daughter and I are from Toronto. This was a birthday dinner for her 9 year-old birthday. There is absolutely no way on gods green earth I would've booked this for 11 PM. What's troubling most of all, is when the acting manager Shadow insinuates that I made the mistake. Shadow is a beautiful woman, but that does not mean everyone else is stupid. Her solution to the mixup, was for us to go to the bar area, and perhaps something could be available for 10 PM. Our bill was over 400 pounds. This amount is to be expected in a place like Hawksmoor. I was very clear in saying that we have a friend arriving for 8:30 PM (yet she was delayed and came for 9pm) and regardless, Shadow had absolutely no right to not offer a more suitable solution. Chris, a super guy, Who I think acts as a bit of a host and also an assistant manager perhaps, saved the situation. Once things calmed down a little bit, my daughter and I were waiting downstairs in the bar area and Chris had us seated within minutes. The most troubling aspect of Shadows managerial solution, and after Chris had us seated, at any given moment, there were at least three or four available tables at all times. I just continue to have this feeling that Shadow could have handled the situation better. Rather than telling us to go downstairs and wait for two more hours when she's the one that made the mistake in the first place, she could have taken a more proactive approach and had us seated immediately, and let us know that's what her goal is. We almost left as a result of Shadows blatant blame shifting. This would have been a shame because our time at the Manchester location in the summer of 2019 was simply incredible. Regardless, the food is unbelievably delicious here. The steak is perfect. The lobster is a tad difficult to open. Perhaps we could have requested that to have been handled for us. Crab toast, perfect ribeye, the amazing spinach and mushroom sides...... And the unbelievable Customer Service of Chris, our server Eleonora, and the helpful service of Cedric made this experience wonderful. Not to mention unbelievably good food. Shadow is a beautiful woman, but I think she's had a bad couple of days. Anyways no harm done, and we shall return.

I don't know if this was the location we visited, but we went for full English breakfast and it was a feast! Enjoyed every bit of it. And as if it couldn't get any better we finished it off with a toffee pudding which was an absolute heaven in a plate

The underground setting in an old brewery set the scene from the onset...  a warm yet grandeur atmosphere - great ambience.  We went for a pre-theatre dinner and we were not disappointed - we did not feel rushed at an time.  Food was excellent as was the service.

Highly recommend

Steak dinner @hawksmoorrestaurants - in a renovated brewery. Beautiful grass-fed British beef. And of course, we had to have Yorkshire pudding with gravy on the side.

One of the hidden best kept treasures of London, if you're not a local you won't know about it. A wonderful place with superbly done interiors , fine dining also with some great options in the comfort food . Wide variety of snacks that can be enjoyed with some hot coffee too! Must visit!

While in London, I wanted to try one of the best steaks possible. You will find places doing steak for £100+, however, I don't believe that you are paying for the quality of the food, but rather, to eat in the establishment. My hopes were high based on the reviews, and Hawksmoor certainly did not disappoint! Had the fillet and it was cooked to perfection! Service was very good, and we were quickly seating and presented with the menu and drinks.

I actually went to the Borough Market branch of Hawksmoor but it still hasn't appeared on Zomato.

The picture wasn't the best but there's plenty of pics from Hawksmoor on the app so I don't think it'll make much difference.

This dining experience was second to none, both in terms of service and food. We booked a table and upon arriving, were told to wait at the bar for the table to free up. We ordered some mocktails, we left it to their mixologist to choose. This drink was refreshing and lovely with a huge wedges of fresh fruit around the rim.

We started with half a dozen oysters, which was the perfect starter to whet the appetite. We almost ordered another half dozen coz they were so good but I'm glad we didn't for what was to come could have fed a small family.

We asked about their prime rib from the butcher menu, they only had one left; a monstrous 42 oz prime rib on the bone cooked medium for 2. To accompany the steak, we had triple cooked chips, beef dripping fries, mac and cheese, grilled bone marrow and marrow bone gravy.

This was definitely the best steak I've ever had, with the grilled bone marrow aka the butter of the gods; this became something sensational. There's no point in talking about how tender the meat was or how crispy the fries were, this is obviously exactly what you would expect. What I will say is the entire steak experience was ethereal and carnal. It was pure dining pleasure in the way that only a good steak can be. No fancy artsy minimalist nonsense. Just an amazing cut of beef cooked expertly and served with the perfect sides.

The steak itself was almost £130, the entire dine was just under £200 which is obviously pretty high but not really. It's not something the likes of me can have on a regular or even semi regular bases. It was a special occasion meal and I can't wait for my next birthday to have this experience again.

The waiter vehemently complimented our order. He said most people come on dates and order from the menu and on occasion you'd have large groups order from the butchers board which ends up with each person having a small amount of fantastic steak. What's the point of that? This is gonna be a special occasion meal, you know it'll be expensive, why would you want to spend a medium amount of money and leave not fully satisfied. Go with the intention of spending enough to leave full and satisfied. We managed to waddle out of the restaurant with huge smiles on our faces.

My boyfriend and I decided to have dinner here to celebrate his birthday. We've always wanted to try a good steak place and I can definitely say I was not disappointed at all.

To start we had potted beef & bacon with Yorkshire pudding and steak tartare. Both were absolutely scrumptious. We decided to share a huge chunk of porterhouse with some beef dripping fries, grilled bone marrow and some buttered English greens. The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the sides were really well done.

For dessert, my boyfriend had the peanut butter shortbread with salted caramel ice cream, which he loved. I decided on a scoop of mascarpone ice cream and a scoop of lemon sorbet. I cannot rave about the mascarpone ice cream enough. It is easily my favourite thing on the menu and everything I tried was amazing!

The staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is quite laid-back. It's a bit pricey but definitely worth it!

I guess that I would keep it short. If I dare say this that if you are wondering where to have 'the perfect steak' around London then simply hit the 'Hawks'. It is the Holi trinity of how a steak is conceptualised and then made to perfection and most importantly how one feels after having those.

Ladies and gentleman entertain no one who says otherwise and you would not be disappointed, cheers !

The Best Steakhouse in London
!

It is straight forward that if you want the best steak around London just hit the Hawks,  had the "Brixham crab on toast " as the starter and dived into the "Porterhouse " with anchovy hollandaise , washed it down with Macallan Gold,  Yay !

Had a lovely late lunch last Monday. The restaurant was about a quarter full so the service was spot on. The wine I initially picked was out of stock so was recommended what was my next choice, a great flavourful Malbec co-produced by one of the Hawksmoor people.
The food was great as expected and I enjoyed a well cooked sirloin. More specifically the mushroom side dish was fantastic, bursting with flavour.
A very good experience.

"Don't order too much", was the message our waiter gave us when ordering at Hawksmoor. I looked at my fellow diners and gave the 'is this guy serious?' kind of look. They did not agree with me, they sided with the waiter and thought it best to focus on the steaks. After the meal and holding my belly in my hands I came to the realisation too that the waiter was right.

Sunday roast have been on my must-try list long before I came to London! Hawksmoor seven dials was not easy to find and the front door came you the impression of a private club, but once you push open the big door there were friendly staff welcoming you! Once went downstairs, you came to a bar area where you can sit with friends to have some drinks while waiting for a table. The restaurant area is very spacious and has deemed lights, you can also see the kitchen area in the restaurant. Note that the Sunday roast is not on the menu but on their board on the wall. We ordered the Sunday roast with beef, beef dripping fries, bone marrow with caramelised onions and Caesar salad. The beef was cooked to perfection, tender and soft. The fries were so crispy, if you like skinny fries that similar to French fries make sure you order the beef dripping fries not the 3 times cooked chips. Bone marrow, yum! Coupled with the onions it was fantastic, but it came in big portion so recommend to share with at least one other friend. The Caesar salad was a huge let down, it was the unhealthiest salad I've ever had! For dessert we had sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream, it came warm and the cream was melting, it was mouth watering and had fabulous taste. Overall it was a great first authentic Sunday roast experience.

Hawksmoor’s usual price point for steak would put it out of reach for me but they deliver an affordable express menu at Seven Dials, totalling at £24 for 2 courses or £27 for 3 courses, which to me sounds like a bloody good deal for steak.

Despite the limited choice on the express menu, which include other treats besides steak, I was actually very interested in trying the Bone Marrow in Green Sauce. This is the second time I’ve had bone marrow, the first being in a fantastic restaurant in Florence called L’Osteria di Giovanni, so Hawksmoor’s had a lot to live up to. The presentation is rustically appealing, caveman-like! Cut longways it looks like you’re getting much more than you bargained for. The marrow was cooked beautifully, rich and full of flavour, but I felt the oiliness of the dressing proved too much towards the last mouthfuls and I feel less toasting on the bread would make it a grea

Great service, vibe and food!. Here for a late night bite, catching up with friends whilst in London. The underground location gives Hawksmoor a cool vibe, the bar and restaurant feel close and initimate, but you are not sitting on top of each other. The level of noise is good, it's buzzing and busy, but you can still talk in your group. Service was outstanding from coming through the front down, to the bar, to our table. Friendly, helpful and of good humor. The food was good solid fare, steaks were correctly cooked and tender, vege's were plentiful and the chips nice and crunchy outside, soft on the inside. I would definately recommend and we'll definately be back during our London stay!

Meaty deliciousness. I went as a group of four, and when the waiter recommended we order 1.6kg of meat to share I thought he was joking! We had a porterhouse and rib-eye which meant there was a fair bit of bone in the weight, so the portions were just perfect. Succulent, and full of flavour the meat does not disappoint. Bone marrow sauce is delicious, and too many great sides to cover here. However the unexpected surprise for me was dessert - best apple pie I have had - ever. Buttery, crumbly sweet pastry with delicious apple filling (no sultanas) and a hint of salt. Served with vanilla custard - seriously sensational.

The cow did not die for nothing. It was a dark and rainy monday night when I was walking down this alleyway trying to find the entrance to the Hawksmoor. It was tucked at the end of the alleyway and when we entered, we found ourselves surrounded in a warmth that made us forget the damp weather outside. We started with drinks at the bar (located down deep in the ground) prior to dinner in the dining room. The cocktail list was extensive with suggestions for getting the dampness out the bones (antifogmatics), pre-dinner to whet the appetite (preprandials), etc. It was a cocktail drinker wet dream. It was Monday night when you could bring your own bottle for a low £5 corkage. Great value if you want to bring a special bottle and not have to pay the restaurant mark up. That said, the wine list is still impressive and well priced. We brought our own and they even decanted the bottle for us. No fuss!

Our throats well lubricated, we proceeded to the dining room for the food and we were amazed at the inviting smells of steaks being served. We ordered a lobster for starters (not the best, it was mushy better to stick to the ribs which looked good). As it was only the two of us and our fist time at the restaurant, we decided to order the smaller cuts off the menu rather than choose one of the larger cuts from the board (next time, i think we'll try the prime rib). We had a rib eye and the rump. Maybe a mistake to choose 2 so different cuts as the thinner rump steak suffered from slight overcooking for both of the steaks to be served at the same time. We had 2 different type of chips (triple cooked and the beef dripping). The triple cooked was a tad bit tough on the outside but still wasn't that bad. The beef dripping chips were alright as well. Nothing to shout out about. The bone marrow was delis (but it's a marmite thing you either like it or hate it). I haven't tried St John's version yet but I enjoyed the Hawksmoor version (perhaps the salt should be a little more flaky). It was the steaks that shone. They were the best steaks (flavourful, tender, just the right amount of fat) I have had in the UK. Not comparable to wagyu or kobe but comparable to good steaks from Argentina, USA and Canada.

THE best steak I have EVER eaten. Definitely a new favorite place to eat! The staff are extremely friendly and the food is exceptional. I could cut my fillet steak with NO muscle! So tender and juicy, and I dont even usually enjoy steak. The bone marrow was incredible, as was the mac and cheese! In fact... EVERYTHING! The staff are all so friendly and eager to satisfy. So sad I didnt eat dessert but we were so full. The interior is amazing, especially interestingl having read the steakhouse's story on the back on their menu. Just phenominal! Brilliant. Unable to fault.... I cannot express my pleasure enough over the experience that we had at Hawksmore 7 dials this weekend. We booked 2 weeks in advance for a thursday, a week later, my plans had changed and we investigated the posibility of moving the booking to Friday night... We got a table in the bar for 9pm but were told to pitch up earlier in case the table was ready early. So we arrived at 8 30 and were instantly impressed with the decor and the friendly reception. We were given a seat at a high bar table for a drink as our table wasnt ready, the place was packed, but had a great atmosphere. We ordered a couple of cocktails from the extensive and well researched menu, which were phenominal. Amazing care is taken in the preparation of the drinks, attention to detail and the finest cut glasses are used. The history of each drink really adds to the whole concept of this place, with facinating facts about the origins of what you are imbibing.
As for the main event, the food was just cracking. Being a late table, we didn't bother with starters but the main course gave us a quandry as we wanted to try everything. Our waiter was excellent, very professional yet had great banter. He guided us through the menu and we chose the Rib-eye, with sides of beef dripping chips, creamed spinach and the mac & cheese. Cooked to perfection, this 400g slab of heaven was just stunning. The little details made the difference, it was perfectly medium rare, the sides were amazingly flavoursome, especially the macaroni cheese, which I cannot recommend enough! Event the tommy ketchup was homemade and in a bespoke bottle. I loved it all.
We were, however, stuffed! SO no dessert either, although I wish I had the room as the menu looked great.
We had coffees and then retired to the bar for more cocktails. I was then given a Julep which was served in a silver tea caddy, which was just the coolest looking drink in the world and it tasted amazing. The price is what struck me, its not cheap, but considering the quality, the time and effort, the attention to detail, the fine decor and the service, i was amazed how reasonable it was. The wine was even sensible, the house is under £17 per bottle and we had stunning a Rioja for about £27.
Overall, we had one of the best nights ever, I cannot fault this and we will return, although I think that we will go for the 900g Porterhouse next time (to share of course!)

Bit confused by some reviews. Had a VERY long business lunch for 5 people. Variety of steaks and seafood ordered. All done extremely well. It's not as high end as Gaucho, you get a 'proper' chargrilled steak and service was attentive and friendly. Quality of meat was right up there - but not the best. Extensive wine list and good bar. Their signature Shakey Pete's Ginger brew is not to be missed.

Me kimchi burger!. Finally made it here...great room, very macho, but not offputtingly so, though a tad loud if you're as interested in your dining partners as the steak.

On which note, I didn't have the steak! Controversy! Was torn between a burger and the lobster roll (inspired by Red's Eats in Maine, a shack which I have patronised, though theirs is $10 as opposed to £25 here...) I had the kimchi burger which shouldn't work, but does, the pungent, vinegary, hot, hot pickle cutting through the cheese and the meat juices perfectly. Medium rare burger with marrow, toasted brioche, triple cooked chips and creamed spinach, all as they should be.

The boys shared a porterhouse which looked great, cooked very well, but didn't set the table on fire.

Special mention for service - charming waiter, it was our friend's 40th, he got him a little cake and said 'happy 50th' as instructed...What larks.

Roast Beef was almost off the side of the plate and about 3/4 of an inch thick, served with a large yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, parsnips, artichoke and a full bulb of roasted garlic. Accompanied by a gravy boat and some horseradish. Superb Sunday Roast for £17.50 - expensive perhaps but so much better than anything you might get cheaper at a Carvery or a Pub.

Amazing!. By far the best steak I've had in the UK. I had the rib-eye and it was gorgeous.

Unfortunately for my husband I didn't check whether we had got the right steaks, me liking mine med-rare and him med-well, I poured my peppercorn sauce over mine before I checked and it was his but he very kindly scraped the unwanted sauce off and we started again. The only let down really to an otherwise perfect dining experience.

Also, the scallop starter was very tasty.

For a long time, I've been excited to let myself explore the London food scene in terms of its basic foundations. What good is it if the fine-dining scene is spectacular but the street-food scene is uninspiring? After all, it's not like most of us can afford fine-dining experiences on a daily basis! I've always loved burgers and it is a meal pretty much everyone enjoys and loves so I thought it would make the best test of the culinary foundations of London. In the last few years, so many burger joints have popped up in London. They tend to be small in size, have a no-reservations policy and an indie vibe. I have tried to capture all sorts of atmospheres with the restaurants from the burgers made in the dingy corners of Soho to the more decadent burgers made in glamorous Mayfair. However, there are some fantastic burger joints that I didn't include on here such as that of Tommi's Burger Joint because I've already written a review. 6. Two Summers ago, Plaid Boy flew to the UK with the intention of making me his girlfriend ( he obviously succeeded ). As it was his first ever trip to London, I took him to some of my favourite places in town with the intention of making him fall in love with the city (not quite sure I succeeded). One night, he wanted to have steak. Admittedly, the capital's steakhouses may never compare to the ones he's accustomed to in New York (read: Peter Luger, Keens, Ben and Jacks) but I thought Hawksmoor at least wouldn't disappoint. We had a feast of a meal, but I didn't think he was keen.

Hawksmoor is one of my favourite places to eat at in London. It was one of the first places that I organised a dinner at with my friends, back when there was only the single branch on Commercial Street in Spittalfields. Stories of Hawksmoor having the best steaks in London, cooked by an impressive beast of an oven in a space formerly occupied by a kebab shop were what drew me there.

The steaks were cooked beautifully – thick cut, well aged and with an excellent char. The rib-eye was medium rare (as requested) and the extra time helps soften up the meat. The sirloin was nicely rare and really showcased the texture of the meat. I can’t get over how good the fat is on beef that’s been dry aged this long.

Last year I visited the Seven Dials branch to try out their Christmas burger. Since then I've been about every few months to try out their 'burger of the month' (which changes, surprise surprise, every month). So far I've been bowled over by the monthly special burgers, but this month's 'mushroom' burger is somewhat unbalanced. Some of London's best steaks and burgers are to be found here and undoubtedly the next few monthly specials will be of the same high standard as for instance the beetroot burger or the Christmas burger, but I'll give this month's special burger a pass.

Months after all the brouhaha surrounding the opening, I finally made it to Hawksmoor's new Seven Dials branch for a weekend lunch with friends. The place does a pretty good job of living up to most of the hype. Arriving early, we spent half an our at the bar waiting for the rest of our party - there's plenty of room to mill around and great bar staff mixing excellent cocktails. The dining room is similarly comfortable and populated with charming staff. Having red so much about the kimchi burger, I ordered that from the bar menu, while the rest of the group shared a substantial slab of beef fillet. I'm pretty sure that most of the sides on offer were also ordered. I pinched a slice of the beef and can confirm that it was wonderful. The sides were also great, particularly the macaroni cheese and the mushrooms. Beef dripping chips are far superior to the alternative of triple cooked chips - they're good, but not quite up to Hind's Head standards, whereas the beef dripping option are cris

Far better, and much raved about, is the kimchi burger - an inspired combination of astringent fermented pickle and unctuous, marrowy meat. My only criticism would be the choice of cheese: a robust cheddar which overpowers the dish.

This is the Covent Garden younger sister to the original Hawksmoor in east London. This is larger premises (142 covers at capacity) with a generous bar and extensive basement dining room, tucked away in a side street off Shelton Street. There is a parquet floor, vaulted brick ceilings and muzak playing, though the noise levels were not too high and the music choice (including Elvis Costello and Amy Winehouse) at least showed some good taste.

Side orders of roasted field mushrooms and creamed spinach arrived. The field mushrooms were truly excellent and I could have merrily eaten a dish of them as a starter on another occasion. The spinach was, well, spinach. It was indeed creamed and perfectly presentable but as H said there was a “curious edge” to it that neither of us could pinpoint.

Had a lovely dinner at the new Hawksmoor branch in Langley St in Seven Dials last night. It's a big space - just down the road from Pineapple Dance Studios so you can dance off your meat-fest after dinner. There is a cool bar as you come down the stairs with a decent cocktail list and the main room is cavernous. Last night (as I'm sure is the case on most nights) the crowd was very guy-heavy with some tables whooping it up a storm - I suppose guys and steak will always be a winning combo. For you lassies out there, please don't be put off by this, this place is way too good to leave to the fellas. Man - the chateaubriand was sensational, in fact as I am writing this I am struggling not to drool on the keyboard. It was the best steak I have had in a long long time. The other half and I shared an 850g version, which was the smallest on offer by the time we ate at 9.30pm. It was just slightly too much meat but we still ate it all natch. It was meltingly tender and perfectly seasoned - sup

Apart from the fantastic steaks my only other over-riding memory is of the inordinate 45minute wait between ordering and the protein arriving, which was a massive disappointment and put the brakes on half-way through an otherwise rather spectacular evening. Apparently this was because two of our party had ordered a steak well-done. Should that really make such a difference?

I have to realize how lost I would be without my phone. More precisely I would be utterly lost without my phone's GPS function. Just the other day, Wife and I wandered up and down Langley Court looking for Hawksmoor branch at Seven Dials only to find out that it's at Langley Street instead later on. Not that we mind really as we ended up at Dishoom for lunch instead. This time round, I was determined to get it right and pinpointed Hawksmoor's location before setting off. Tucked behind an ongoing renovation, Hawksmoor's main entrance would be hidden from view if you were to approach from Coventry Garden's main thoroughfare. Once you are through the heavy doors, you would be greeted by a friendly pair of receptionists in a decent size lobby - it was obvious tha

To celebrate the passing of a big exam as well as other minor bits and pieces, I had booked a lunch at Hawksmoor Seven Dials for me, Blai and my brother. I'd never been to this or their original restaurant as I just never crave steak enough to warrant a visit; I do cook it at home though. My brother's particularly fond of burgers, however, and I'd been aware for a while of the other dishes they offer, dishes that are particularly enticing. And so last Saturday, we headed down to Seven Dials to eat at Hawksmoor. The minimal entrance didn't give much hint of what we'd find beyond the reception. It turned out to be a basement restaurant (and a bar) that was much larger than I expected. The generously sized tables were spaced well and the chairs were supremely comfortable and when even half full, there's a great buzz to the place (that said, booking is highly recommended). By default, when you sit in the restaurant, you are, of course, given the restaurant menu with its starters and steaks

I'm a huge steak lover and this was one of the best steaks I've had in London so far.  It was cooked beautifully (I ordered it rare) and the portion sizes are very generous - I have a big appetite and this filled me up which says a lot! The steak was cooked to perfection and the sides were so more-ish I don't know how I didn't end up rolling out of the restaurant!
I went here for lunch with family for a birthday so we took our time and sat in the bar area for a while. The cocktails were fantastic and there was plenty of choice across the board to suit everyones tastes in the alcohol department.
The restaurant itself is underground and although the decor is brick walls and pillars, it somehow manages to avoid the potential dungeon-esque feel that you find in some places. Instead, it feels spacious, warm, light and open.
The staff were polite, attentive and good humoured which added to the great experience. If you love steak and/or have a big appetite, especially for good food, this is the place to go

Oh, and I have 3 words for you...Peanut Butter Shortbread. Peanut Butter Shortbread. I had to say it twice cause it's that good. Literally one of the best desserts I've had in my life. The express meal is probably one of the best deals out there for steak. The steak was done well, nice and juicy on the inside with a great sear on the outside. The starters were unfortunately slightly lackluster, with the bone marrow and onions being a bit too heavy. Dessert fortunately, made up for that though - amazing sticky toffee pudding, and a nicely crafted peanut butter shortbread.

Hawksmoor has got itself a name for the best steak in London, and deservedly so. A place you come to treat yourself, your loved ones and your stomach. Your tastebuds will be thanking you for splashing out £30 on that rib-eye too.

I had my steak medium-rare (done to perfection) served with a stilton hollandaise. Thankfully, rather than take over the in the flavour stakes (sorry, couldn't resist that one), it complimented the tender meat perfectly. We got a huge selection of sides too including a fabulous mac and cheese and outstanding triple-cooked chips. I want every chip I ever eat to be triple-cooked from now on. So there.

With regards to drinks, they've got an impressive array of whiskeys, but if that's not your thing, then a fruity and refreshing cocktail will probably do the trick. I highly recommend the Tokaji Smash.

Even though it was only 5pm when we arrived, it was already packed full of people eating. We were seated immediately and the service throughout the evening was very quick and efficient but at no point did we ever feel rushed with added to the dining experience.

For my starter I had the mackerel pate on toast which was delicious while my boyfriend had the Caesar salad. The main course we both had steak with chips and a side of creamed spinach to share as it had been recommended to both of us by different friends. The whole meal was delicious and I didn't have room for dessert which is normally my favourite part of the meal. It was a fantastic dining experience and I would definitely go back again.

Location: Just off Covent Garden, at the bottom of Langley Street (a New York-style alleyway, only lacking subway steam and a nunchuck weilding gang) sits Hawksmoor Seven Dials. Just as you get to the bottom of the alley, when you think there couldn't possibly be any kind of thriving business, save one of the less than salubrious establishments Soho is famed for, let alone one of London's pre-eminent and widely praised meat restaurants there it is. This is one of London's worst kept secrets, and a meat shrine at which first timers and regulars alike, worship.

The heavy, black wooden doors swing open to reveal a low lit reception, and a bevy of
Maître ds efficiently deal with coats, bags and lead you down to the bar for drinks and a wait until your table is ready. It's dark, luxurious and just the sort of place to gain the reputation it has.

The scene is set for Burger wars. The classic Hawksmoor burger, and the Kimchi burger.
I was here dining with some great people from Twitter @queenofmarkets, @alligood77, @natanyaabrahams, who shared a fantastic 1.2kg bone-in prime rib steak with a pile of sides (as well as indulging in smoked salmon, oysters, and some cracking Chilean Carmenere).

Price:
Contentder 1: Hawksmoor Burger, Ogleshield Cheese or Stilton, triple fried or beef dripping chips - £15
Contentder 2: Kimchi Burger, Ogleshield Cheese or Stilton, triple fried or beef dripping chips - £15

Round 1 - Presentation:
Hawksmoor Burger - This burger was served bun-on, with juicy, cheese-covered patty sticking out the edges, and a run of beautiful burger juice seeping out onto the plate.

Kimchi Burger - The Hawksmoor Kimchi burger was also served bun-on, and had a spattering of bright red kimchi dripping all over the lettuce and plate.

Both are big, solid, manly-looking burgers, buns glistening in the flash of my camera. At this stage, they're equal on points.

Round 2 - Toppings:
Hawksmoor Burger - I choose to have my burger topped with the delicious Ogleshield cheese, a creamy mildly astringent cheese, expertly coated the patty. Other toppings included a slice of completely forgettable beef tomato, and underneath rested a couple of leaves of lettuce, some rings of raw red onion, sliced pickles, and the hint of a thousand-island/mustard mayo sauce.

Kimchi Burger - Again topped with Ogleshield cheese, this had been melted over a lump of smoked pork rib which rests on the patty. Underneath the patty, sits the spicy red kimchi, resting on top of lettuce leaves. I had previously drawn some criticism from Twitter about Kimchi having no place on a burger, so I wondered how it would fare. The answer was bloody brilliantly. It turns out Kimchi goes incredibly well with smoked pork and Ogleshield cheese, and the separation between the kimchi under the patty, and the cheese and pork above make for a wonderfully deep and spicy/smokey flavour. Somehow the Kimchi *works* and I found myself cramming it into my mouth to get more of the moreish flavours. Kimchi beats classic on toppings in Round 2, hands down.

Round 3 - Meat:
Meat Win. The Hawksmoor burger patty is a proprietary patty seared together with chopped bone marrow. It is a perfectly seasoned burger patty with a deep beefy taste and wonderfully juicy. Hawksmoor offer to cook it pink or done and mine was beautifully medium rare. Just the kind of good quality meat you expect at Hawksmoor (and hope for, for £15).
Even points again on the meat in Round 3.

Round 4 - Bun:
Both the Hawksmoor burger and the Kimchi burger share the same bun. The origin is from the ubiquitous Miller's Bakery in Wimbledon that are also used in the Bread Street Kitchen Burger, and the Admiral Codrington Burger. This brioche bun has been proved time and again that can soak up everything that is thrown at it, and that's right up to a point. And whilst the bun took everything the Kimchi burger threw at it, unfortunately it wasn't man enough for the regular burger and the bottom had disintegrated by the time I got to the end. I should have been upset, but instead I licked the juicy goodness off my fingers and then licked the plate clean.

Bosh. Same bun, different technique which ends up letting down the classic for another points victory to Kimchi.

Round 5 - Plate accessories:
As I ordered two burgers, I had the pleasure of receiving two portions of chips. One were triple cooked, the others were cooked in beef dripping. The ones that were worth eating are photographed below, the beef dripping chips.

Unfortunately the triple-cooked chips were dry and chewy where they should have been crispy and crunchy. We ordered a whole world of other sides including bone marrow, mac 'n' cheese, and sprout tops among other things, but the beef dripping chips won hands down as best side.

Classic Hawksmoor burger - 8.5/10
Kimchi burger - 9.5/10

Whilst the classic burger fought well, there are a couple of technical errors in style that let it down - the bun disintegration, the raw red onion, the dry triple cooked chips. The Kimchi burger is the clear winner on the night - great composition, complementary toppings and a great smokey, spicy flavour, and the beef dripping chips are pretty special too!

A few years ago, when I was new to London and single, a guy I went on a few dates with excitedly took me to Hawksmoor as its his favourite restaurant and I was promised the best steak I'd ever had. It was pretty fantastic. Fast forward a few years and my boyf J is a big steak fan (what man isn't?) and when my turn for date night came around I knew where to suggest.
So, with hungry anticipation we made our way down the stairs and into the beautiful space, and ordered a cocktail whilst we waited. By golly, they were strong, and the perfect start to our meal.
I really really want to tell you that the food lived up to my memory of that first encounter, but alas we left pretty disappointed and a lot, a lot poorer. We skipped starters, and went straight in for the main. As it was a treat, we decided to spend the extra money on a chateaubriand for two from the specials board. This was £52. Without sides. Wowsers. It arrived looking splendid, but by all accounts was pretty bland, and made us wishing we'd gone for a rib-eye or rump, something with a bit more flavour. For £52, thats now how you want to feel. Our bottle of malbec arrived cold - we complained to our waiter who sheepishly said they were kept in the cold basement and advised it would soon warm up. Uh yeah, not really the point though? The sides were all nice enough, but when you're spending close to a fiver on each so they should be!
I've had much, much better steak at Goodman and Gaucho (which I know divides people, but I had an absolutely superb steak there on my last visit) and although a beautiful restaurant, won't be rushing back to Hawksmoor.

I have a friend who I meet for dinner every month or so. We always go somewhere new, we always have cocktails and we always end up circling our fingers to order yet another round. It means that more often than not I awake the next morning with a slightly sore head. This is exactly what happened when we last met, at Hawksmoor Seven Dials, which was rather shamefully my first visit to one of their restaurants.

It feels slightly naughty turning your back on bustling Long Acre and heading down the dark backstreet to the restaurant, although in this den of iniquity the drug is cholesterol, not opium or large-bosomed women. We had booked a table at the bar so I headed downstairs. Hawksmoors’ interiors are generally referred to as masculine and sexy, and with good reason. I loved the smooth curved lines of the dark wood table, the Viennese Hoffman lamps casting a low glow, the gorgeous long pewter bar and the chunky metal chandeliers.

The cocktail list is extensive and, to begin with at least, slightly overwhelming. The cocktails are arranged according to the time of day they were originally created to be drank at, starting with ‘anti-fogmatics’ to awaken the mind. Liking gin I stuck with these and ordered a Silver Bullet, which contains Kummel (a spirit I had not tried before) and has the distinction (perhaps) of being Prince Philip’s favourite cocktail. A very knowledgeable and friendly barman told me that it wasn’t to everyone’s taste, but if you like caraway and unusual drinks you might just love it. He also said that if I didn’t like it he would bring me another one on the house. There was no need. It was quite bitter, very strong (only about 25ml of non-alcohol in it) and with a hint of warmth. Rather than delve deeper into the list I decided to stick with it (drinking the same cocktail all night lessens the chance of a hangover right?)

You can’t just drink at Hawksmoor, you have to eat as well. A hardship we were both more than willing to face. We started with a lobster cocktail to share, which rather than coming in a de rigour Martini glass, the tender chunks of meat coated in a spicy Marie Rose sauce were served in the lobster shell. It looked as good as it tasted. A few months ago Time Out published a list of the best dishes in London. I eat out a lot and was ashamed that I had only eaten seven of them at the time. I have since put more effort in and I crossed another off my list that night: the Short-Rib French Dip. The slightly sweet bun was filled with rich pieces of meat, tangy melted Oglesheild cheese and a boat of dark bone-marrow gravy for dipping. It wasn’t elegant, but it was very very tasty. We also tucked into crunchy triple cooked chips and meaty roast field mushrooms.

At £60 each it was at the upper end of what I like to pay for an evening out, but the atmosphere, cocktails and seriously good food made it worth it. And Prince Philip (if, on the very odd chance you are reading this) – you really do have excellent taste in cocktails.

We foolishly made the mistake of having breakfast a few hours before going for Sunday lunch at Hawksmoor in Seven Dials. Lets just say that the portion sizes were more than generous. We ordered a glass of Chianti Classico and Pinor Noir. Opted to skip starters and rather than have a steak, decided to go for the 'lighter' option of the Sunday Roast at £17.50. When it arrived the Roast Beef was almost off the side of the plate and about 3/4 of an inch thick, served with a large yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, parsnips, artichoke and a full bulb of roasted garlic. Accompanied by a gravy boat and some horseradish.

The beef was tasty, moist and beautifully cooked, the vegetables were very good too, including what tasted like triple cooked roast potatoes. I can't say that we cleared our plates, we didn't, but that was not because we did not enjoy it, just that we physically couldn't.

Although strangely we did manage to have dessert (different compartment I guess). For dessert I had the peanut butter shortbread with salted Caramel ice cream. My light weight companion just went for the cornflake ice cream accompanied by a generous glass of Tokaji.

we planned to dine at this restaurant and to start we had the incredible Brixham crab on toast and the Tamworth belly ribs, to follow we went for the traditional Sunday roast with all the trimmings which was cooked to perfection.
Unfortunately we couldn't manage a dessert but felt very envious of the people near by who'd saved room for one as all the desserts looked amazing
If you're looking for a restaurant with a great ambiance, great staff and great food then Air street is the place to go for sure

We love this place, we come here VERY often steak anywhere else just isn't the same.
Highly recommend the bone marrow gravy & a shaky Pete cocktail (pre-dinner).
Ambiance is wonderful, been on dates, with the girls, with my mum and on a business dinner.
Outstanding though I'll never understand why a couple next to us both ordered chicken - in a steak restaurant...
All in all very good place, will plan back soon...

I went to Hawksmoor on a team outing - We had a private room for ourselves. There was a wide selection of wines and cocktails on offer. I had suckling pig for starters and I was amazed by how tasty and succulent it was - I totally enjoyed it. For mains, I was a bit hamstrung as I do not eat beef, but everyone else in the team really enjoyed their steak cooked to perfection. The sticky toffee pudding was a treat too, served warm and melted in the mouth. Overall, would recommend to steak lovers!

I pretty much agree with Jamie's review. The steak is simply awesome. I haven't been to their original branch, but had a great time here.

The ambiance is good (little old and charming) with a trendy bar - we had a cocktail each at the bar and then we made our way to the table. My partner and I had rib eye steaks and we also ordered the beef dripping chips -very, very yum! I can go as far as to say this is one of the best steaks that we have ever had.

It's little pricey (about £30 per steak) but then one of the best.

One of my favourites in London if not Britain. Faultless. Amazing knowledgeable staff who will help you to everything you need. The simple yet flawless execution of ingredients is something to be admired. Write off the rest of your evening as you wont be moving anywhere! The meat was some of the best I have ever had.

Great steak restaurant in London. There are several locations, this was our first time at the seven dials location and we really enjoyed it. The steaks are top notch with tasty sides to choose from. The cocktails are some of the best in London. Highly recommend!

Amazing steakhouse in London serving incredible meats, food and cocktails. This location was excellent and had a great underground (subterranean) atmosphere. Really enjoyed the experience from start to finish as the drinks are worthy of a cocktail bar and the food qualifies for fine dining. Highly recommend!

Top notch place for Sunday roast. The beef was perfectly pink and juicy, perfectly served with the stunning sauce. The roast potatoes were a bit of the letdown (dry), but the Yorkshire pudding was epic. The bone marrow side was also a bit of miss, but the carpaccio and the toffee pudding were delightful. Order wisely, and you'd be rewarded. This is clearly ain't no pub, the pricing certainly ain't, so I did expect a bit more than your average fare; here therein Hawksmoor falls a bit short in terms of value. Lastly, staff were polished, prompt and professional.

I simply love, love, love this place. The decor, the atmosphere, the staff and the food is off the scale. Everything is 10/10! My all time favourite cocktail, the dirty vodka martini, is perfectly mixed. The steaks are simply the best, perfectly cooked and I’ve eaten in many steakhouses. The side dishes are perfect accompaniments, love the bone marrow and the mac ‘n’ cheese, and the bone marrow gravy is just wow! Easily the best gravy I’ve had with a steak. The home made ketchup is delightful and has real flavour. The prime rib which is my favourite cut with lots of marbling is so flavoursome. Fillets are tender. Everything, everything is consistently good every time we visit. Never disappoints and I look forward to the next time.

Good food at a fair price on a pre-theatre menu this week. The decent tomato starter could have been even better with some (more) olive oil. The fries were very good, the steak was a little tough. The greens were good but £6 feels like a lot for cabbage. Service was friendly and efficient. The noise started off as borderline and became quite unpleasant by 7pm. The tables are closely packed and there are no soft surfaces in the basement room, which is probably why. Perhaps it would be worth investing in some acoustic panels

Incredible! The Sunday Roast was so tasty, exceeded my expectations. The gravy and the roasted garlic made the dish be so flavourful, the veggies were amazing as well. The sticky toffee pudding was very rich and delicious! Wouldn’t bother with the summer salad.

An incredibly memorable steakhouse that exceeded our high expectations. I often struggle with the richness of these meals but I had no trouble finishing every single dish we ordered at Hasksmoor. Rib-eye was cooked to medium rare perfection, with a well-rendered fat strip. The sides were a delight and all among the best I’ve had (the triple cooked chips, macaroni, and some greens for balance). The famous sticky toffee delivered in every way. Decadent, creamy, syrupy goodness. Our friend loved it so much that she ordered another. Overall, this place definitely lives up to its reputation. Looking forward to coming back again.

The atmosphere has a fancy touch but still feels very down to earth. There were a lot of families, group of friends as well as couples. The triple fried chips are a must and the sticky toffee pudding is absolutely delicious.

I explored this restaurant recently. Love the design, the atmosphere, the light. Perfect for dates or business lunches. Not cheap but they have set menu for £27- 3 course. Very attentive staff, shared their knowledge about steaks. The meat was delicious, mackerel salad was fresh and tasty. The cherry on top- salted caramel sundae 🔥

I came to visit on Sunday evening while traveling alone. From menu recommendations to wine and sauce recommendations, they were so kind, and thanks to the guidance that the food would be served soon, I was able to have a delicious meal🤍 I don't know your name, but the staff here is the best!! The atmosphere of the store was very good. The steak and wine were delicious. I would like to visit with my acquaintance on my next visit to London :)
