Reviews Goddards At Greenwich

I eat here whenever I'm in Greenwich because it's so cheap and good! Their eels are great, both jellied and in sauce, and their pie, mash and peas combo is pretty big. I've tried 4 of their pies and must say that, while they're not the best pies in London, they're a square meal for under £8! Go for the lamb and rosemary pie ;)

If you've still got space, or have someone to share with, their dessert crumbles are great too!

Amazing pies! A portion are huge and well worth it value. We followed the recommendation of the staff on the pairing of the pies with the sauces and drinks and they were spot on!

Restaurants serving old English classics like Pie, Mash and Jellied eel are a dying breed these days. So it is always good to come across one which is trying to keep the flame alive. True, the food is not the most spicy that you will find, but people don't come here looking for tikka masala and the staff can offer some helpful suggestions to liven the food up. Prices are also quite cheap considering this is London.

Quaint pie shop. Goddard's is a classic old English-style pub like pie eatery where there's a huge variety of pie fillings, flavours and accompaniments. I had the classic steak and ale pie with mash which I would give a 6.5/10 as what mainly let it down was the pastry which wasn't as flaky as I would of hoped. All in all was a satisfactory meal and would eat there again!

The only reason this got a 4 and not full stars is because the super efficient way of ordering sort of makes you feel like your holding up the line.

That said, it's cheap, staff is friendly, food is delicious and there's seating all over, all indoor. I recommend this highly, but if like me you have the social anxiety thing goin on, don't go during lunch hour.

In my uni days this place was a life saver. Such quality honest grub and a no nonsense approach to food. When it closed down I was gutted, it's as of a part of the Greenwich heritage was lost. But just as they Cutty Sark was reconditioned and given a re birth so did Goddards! Even with a Nandos and a Burger joint newly opened this is still by far the most honest, tastiest, most filling and pocket friendly place to eat in Greenwich or maybe even London! Glad they back doing what they do best.

Excellent value and delicious food! I had a cheese and onion pie and was pleased to hear that the gravy is vegan-friendly. I also had an apple crumble and it was incredible! Friendly staff and not expensive food, either - fantastic!

Such a great value for money! We loved the 'Peppered Steak Pie' with mash and gravy. It was probably one of the best pies I've ever had. You won't be able to get a meal for 2 anywhere else for £12 (plus a tea)! Great option if you want a traditional, hot meal in Greenwich! 🥧 Really quick service too!

We had two pies with mash and gravy along with two beer. All for less than £20 in the heart of a very busy Greenwich Market. Excellent pie and mash, quick service and their desserts are huge! We tried a chicken and ham pie, steak and kidney pie and shared a blackberry crumble! All were top quality and very filling. The pies had excellent filling with plenty of meat and tasty gravy! We will be back and will happily bring visitors with us.

I saw somebody on YouTube in their vlog, and this pub was recommended as a good place where you can have not only a beer, of course, but the traditional beef pie with mash. They have like 4 or 5 different kind of pie with mash and also jellied eel .I tried the steak and kidney pie with mash and gravy. I was not disappointed cos it was delicious. The food is cheap and the service is quick. They have lots of sittings upstairs, too.

I watched a London food review on YouTube a few weeks ago that mentioned Goddard’s so when I was in Greenwich, I had to give it a try. My wife and I were not disappointed. Kate had the lamb n mash with a beer and I had the beef n mash. The gravy was superb. What a shame I’m flying out of England tomorrow… otherwise I would be back for the peppered steak pie.

Had the beef pie and mash. Quintessential English food. It was tasty. We got it with the parsley sauce. Quick and pleasant service. If you're in need of a quick bite, this is the place. The atmosphere was charming and quaint.

Excellent pie! I dare say it’s the best pie I have ever had. I had the chicken mushroom pie, and the pie was the right amount of crusty and doughy. What I particularly liked was how traditionally British this place was. Lots of locals were dining here, which gave me the feeling I was definitely at the right place. For £6.10, it’s hard to beat Goddard’s pie and mash!

An old institution (since 1890) that serves pie and mash. They have a vegatarian and vegan option as well. The owners are very considerate. We were choosing the gravy and the lady said "they're all vegan, darlin'". It was really nice of them :) they make people feel welcome, like family. Lovely, lovely place :)

Wow! Proper pie n mash!! I had the steak & chorizo pie with mash n pie with jellied eels on the side. £10 with a 7up! Can’t knock that! Amazing pie. Can see why people are always walking through the door. Tell them what you want and it’s dished up in front of you ready for you to take to your table. Really friendly guys and quite clearly see he’s proud of his family run restaurant. A must for any pie lover. Can you open a branch in Southampton?? ;-)

We had to try this place after seeing it over and over on TikTok, Google, and YouTube. It’s traditional pie and mash. For me it was just ok. That’s because it’s basically an American pot pie. It was good. Just not amazing like all the reviews said.

As an expat living in London, UK for a few years, this restaurant provided me with an opportunity to savor a piece of British traditional food. The ambiance of the place instantly made me feel at home, and the food was truly incredible. Additionally, the staff were extremely friendly and kind, which enhanced the overall experience. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to everyone!

it was our first time with pie and mash, we were a bit apprehensive about what to expect, but this dish is surprisingly delicious. However, my favorite is jellied eels, I know next time I visit London I will order a triple portion. The service is friendly, even just for her, I will come back. I recommend it for breakfast, we didn't feel hungry for half the day. This is definitely one of those places you want to come back to. greetings from Poland.

Visited on 12 June 2023. 5 stars for the prices, friendly staff and good quality food. 4 stars for the traditional taste which, as a non-Londoner, I had a bit of trouble appreciating it (especially the peas). Overall a very pleasant visit. Please visit to have a taste of traditional pies and mash. Recommended!

ALLERGIES I was shocked to know that most of their dishes are Dairy and Egg free. Our 4 years old is highly allergic and was able to have pie and mash and gravy! They also have vegan ice cream if you ask for it. Amazing ! 3 kids and 3 adults £40 including dessert! What a bargain…

Visit here for a Classic British Pie & Mash experience in a family run restaurant where the people behind the counter greet you with smiles & are happy to suggest what you can eat! Affordable, tasty & heartful portions! Loved it! We tried the classic Beef Pie & the Chicken & Ham Pie both with mash & liquor. Definitely must try when you visit Greenwich town. Situated very close to the Royal Observatory & Cutty Sark Ship.
