I have a soft spot for the Loire Valley. It’s probably the first place where I tasted wine – on a family camping holiday in my childhood. With limited funds, my parents made the brave and, at the time unusual, decision that we would camp rather than stay in a hotel in order to have more cash to spend on food and going out. My father never quite came to terms with the compromise, though my mother seemed to have a masochistic delight in the canvas tent which was our home for a couple of weeks each summer. We’d drive to Harwich, take the ferry across to Ostend or Le Havre and spend the night in a hotel before driving to whatever destination they’d picked for us that year. The Loire Valley was particularly memorable, not just because of the fairytale châteaux and fabulous food, but because as we drove into Angers the car was stopped and we were all handed small plastic cups of what I suspect was Crémant de Loire.
"We can't define anything precisely. If we attempt to, we get into that paralysis of thought that comes to philosophers... One saying to the other; you don't know what you are talking about! The second one says: what do you mean by talking? What do you mean by you? What do you mean by know?". - Richard Feynman
Just delicious. Fabulous food and service, beautiful room - favourite meal of the year so far, despite my high expectations.
Interesting menu with too many delicious-sounding dishes to choose from - nothing too wacky but not just the usual choices either. Good bread (no cover charge) served with a generous dollop of tapenade.
Mainly provencal/corsican wine list - took a bottle on recommendation that proved perfect for the meal, and from the cheap end of the list too.
Service was charming and helpful without being over-bearing, and despite the empty tables, the ambience did not suffer. I'd class this as something like a Central London Chez Bruce - very high standards without pretensions. Will happily return - soon, hopefully!
Located in the depressing grey streets around the Royal Courts, Cigalon is an inviting environment to enjoy some good heart-warming food. With its high ceiling, ornate chandeliers and pale pink banquettes, the décor is calming and welcoming. At one end of the dining room is an open kitchen, which adds to an informal feeling.
A couple of Lallier Grande Réserve Champagne flutes and a basket of bread with homemade tapenade later and we’re all settled in, the convivial buzz of a busy restaurant humming around us as I kiss goodbye to the low-calorie diet that’s blighted my introduction to 2015 and order up a feast. The first courses arrive and my braised Camargue beef cannelloni is outstanding, the meat so tender it seems as if it’s been massaged into the soft tubes of pasta as opposed to shredded.
For the first time, in a very long time I wasn't let down by a restaurant. From the beginning and I mean the very beginning everything went right. From the gorgeous rope door handles to the charming and chatty front of house.
Cigalon, the just-opened Provencal restaurant and grill on Chancery Lane, ticks every box. Cuisine I like? Check - I love French food and especially that of
We hosted a dinner here for an office event. Delicious, authentic food, exquisite and well presented. perfectly balanced, interesting menu and attentive staff. Would recommend this venue for both business lunch or dinner.
I work around the corner. I went about five years ago with my significant other. Until tonight, I’d not been since because we encountered the front runner in the annual ‘round-Britain rudest waitress competition. Tonight, all change: staff - lovely, meal - really good, atmosphere - very relaxed. Great!
Super staff, food, service and ambience - sophisticated yet relaxed - made Thursday evening seem special but not too formal on a work night , lovely room beautiful stemware - delicious - light tasty everyone loved it -
Small menu of very high quality food. They've perfected every dish, and take real care with service, presentation, and the whole experience.
Love the calm refined interior, which starts quite quiet even when busy.
Looking forward to returning
Lovely French restaurant with intimate atmosphere.
Had a four course menu with pairing wines. Food presentation was very good and good pairing wines for every dish. Service impeccable and knowledge. Will be back
Great value French cuisine in a low key but pleasant environment.
There were multiple business meals taking place around us however never once did the restaurant's ambiance feel stuffy or impersonal.
The staff ensure they take of their guests, in particular one of the party was celiac and they ensured that individual was well provided for.
The food was well executed (we had the pork and sea bream mains) and would recommend the hibiscus cocktails.
It was really nice overall - the food was tasty but the beef was chewy and hard to cut even with a steak knife. Perhaps other dishes would be a better choice but I would return.
The 5 course with 4 wines pairing was delicious. We would have loved for the portions to be slightly bigger as the food was fab. Céline and her team did a great job setting everything up nicely for a large group of us.
Great French cooking. A group of us went for their Thanksgiving menu and was not disappointed. Good atmosphere, close and intimate yet good attention to detail and service from the first of house. Definitely recommend. I had the ox cheek for mains and it was melt in the mouth and full of rich flavour. Good impact.
Tried one of Cigalon's Test Drive menu for £29.95. Some of the dishes are quite simple like green asparagus & mint risotto but the mains are cooked well. The stand out for me is the deep flavour of the seared seabass and charred aubergines.
Enjoyed a relatively simple but delicious Provençal tasting menu at Cigalon, lifted by friendly, discreet service and a delightful setting. The wine pairings were lovely too, particularly a multilayered rosé.

Totally amazing 3 course dining experience. I had cured salmon and citrus, in which the depth of curing could be increased. However, lamb was perfect, I gave it 5 star. Pudding was fine
First class food. Excellent service and nice and relaxed ambience.
Lovely date night experience! The food was really good, staff are very attentive, perfect ambience! I had a great time there
Beautiful house with glass ceiling. Set menu for is perfect portion for lunch
Should try: pigeon, and sea bream
Came here for the 5 course test-drive. I have come here in the past quite a few times now because I think the food is very good quality for the price.
Once again I was very happy with the service and the quality of the food, they have fantastic risottos and dishes with a focus around beef in particular. I would and probably already do consider this restaurant a regular spot of mine.
Excellent French restaurant at a remarkable good price. Unbeatable tasting menu!
Splendid dinner with outstanding paired English bubbly. Refreshing scallop sushi with apple, sumptuous turbot with cauliflower, (chabichou, extra with an additional glass of Hambledon NV) ending with a brioche pain perdu with a cranberry compote - a gesture to American Thanksgiving?
