An excellent dinner, with little twists to make it interesting. The fresh bread at the start came with butter with a hint of chili and herbs. The seabass came with a few hazelnuts on top - not expected, but the tastes worked together well. The mash and veg rounded the meal off beautifully, all accompanied by some well-chosen wines. I ended up eating here on my own which allowed me to savour the food well, and the service was friendly and attentive but unobtrusive.
Tapas dinner was pretty impressive. Quick service too. The cheapest red was an affordable £23 and quite pleasant and light.
The three of us ordered 6 tapas, which was enough as none of us were ravenous. The waiter recommend 2 to 3 tapas per person. The salt cod brandade was the first dish to arrive, and was rich and spiked with some tart tomato as well as a sous vide runny egg yolk. Accompanying crostina were delicately thin and brittle which was a nice contrast in texture.
Truffle mac and cheese was next to arrive. Very tasty but sauce was a little too liquid for my taste. Pasta could have been firmer too. Again good thought to texture in this dish as there was crunchy breadcrumb topping that contained actual truffle shavings, not just truffle oil. Beef tartare was next to arrive. Quite fresh and even aggressively acidic with pickled enoki mushrooms and micro herbs. Following the rich mac and cheese, the sharp flavours provided a welcome contrast. On it's own I might have been less appreciative of the flavours.
Bavette steak was one of the star orders. Brussel tops, sweet roast cauliflower and an unctuous sauce as well as thin slices of rare grilled steak which is a good strategy for a cut that can be a bit tough. Grilled chicken thigh with salsify, sage and apricots was another excellent dish. I love salsify but can't be bothered to cook it at home because cleaning it is such a chore. Very tender grilled chicken. Texture was added by the apricots appearing as thin dehydrated shavings that which added chewiness. Confit of pork belly was another satisfying dish. Fatty, salty, with crispy skin and sitting on a stew of chickpeas and pancetta.
In general, food was well executed and well thought out. Service was efficient. They were totally unfazed when we told them we needed to pay by card right away because our Uber was arriving in one minute. In March 2019 all of the restaurants in the Salt Yard Group are offering a 50% discount on food on Sundays for both lunch and dinner. Have a look at the "Offers" section of the Hot Dinners website for instructions to book for the special deal.
Salt yard Goodge street, fitzrovia, London par ek bahut hi bdhya restaurant hai. Yaha par Mai kch din pehle gya tha. Yaha ka Khaana bahut acha hai
Salt Yard is a nice upmarket Spanish and Italian pub across Goodge Street.
What I liked :: Croquettes, Churros, Padron Peppers, Patatas Frittas and Wine
Awesome tapas place. Great service, and a extensive menu to chose from. Loved the croquettes, courgette flowers and the churros. Good wine list.
If you feel like having some tasty tapas, Salt Yard is a great option to consider. Ambiance is casual chic, Food is tasty and staff very friendly.
I really liked their Padron Peppers, the Patatas Fritas, the Jamon, Leek and Manchego croquetas. Roast Hake and Courgettes flowers were not my favorites.

After visiting their sister venue Ember Yard two years ago and having amazing tapas, we had to give these guys a go - I'm so glad we did, it was fantastic!
Managed to get a last minute reservation, but their staff were just as welcoming as if we'd booked ahead. Quite a nice cosy venue with a warm atmosphere.
We started with the steamed Cornish plaice, with samphire, a lovely saffron sauce, and crispy mussels so good I'd easily eat a whole plate of them.
Next the pea and mint arrancini with goats curd - such a tasty vegetarian option and not too heavy on texture either.
Then the duck breast with Marsala plums and white asparagus - beautiful, and the smoked almonds really made the dish with the extra flavour and crunch.
Finally the Spanish cheese board, the tirimisu and chocolate mousse for dessert. I recommend the Spanish rather than the Italian to get a variety of goat, ewe and sheep milk cheese, all divine. The tirimisu was just okay but the chocolate mousse was the standout due to the addition of some amazing oloroso soaked plums!!
Such a great meal, this venue should be on the tapas hit-list for any foodie visiting London for sure!
Located in the central neighbourhood of Fitzrovia is Salt Yard which serves fine tapas dishes drawing on Spanish and Italian influences. The atmosphere is mellow yet vibrant, the dishes exhibit bold flavours and clever textural combinations and the prices are also great. Try it out!. Slow Cooked Octopus, Ratte Potatoes, Lemon, Chilli and Capers (£9.5)
Nice little Tapas place, food is authentic and flavourful, service is effective and friendly, maybe time to add new dishes for my next visit... I love ham and specialty if I am not mistaken the one called in Spain Triple
Jotas!!!
As always Flat Eric...
Nice little cosy Tapas place, clean and tidy, bit noisy on the outside, but hey This is London for you, unless you pack up a pic nick and go to Hide Park Corner, space is spare in London...
The menu is well design, but simple, and it would like to see some changes on my next visit...
One think, I am crazy of is the Jamon Triple Jotas from Spain !!!
So, hopefully soon...
As always Flat Eric...

Now I know this blog is called A Married Couple & Their Travels, but realistically we don't travel week in, week out and as a result, there will be a point where I run out of things to write about! As a result, you're going to see some changes around here - nothing major but there will be a lot more coming your way about our life in London.

Admittedly, I'd never heard of The Salt Yard before but as it was the choice of my good friend for her belated birthday dinner, I knew it wouldn't be one to disappoint.
A member of The Salt Yard Group, the restaurant is split across two floors, the ground floor and basement. Like most tapas restaurants I've been to in London, both dining areas were on the small side so reservations are a must! The dim lighting and simple decor added to the cosy feel of the place.
Once we were seated we made a beeline for the drinks menu - this was a belated birthday celebration after all! The wine list at The Salt Yard is exclusively Spanish and Italian, keeping in line with the regions' influences on the food. Sheena opted for a glass of red recommended by our waitress, whilst I opted for some bubbles in the form of a strawberry Bellini.
We opted to pick five dishes in total which turned out to be more than enough for our hungry bellies. First up was The Salt Yard's signature dish - courgette flowers stuffed with goats cheese drizzled with honey. I wasn't too sure what to expect from it but Sheena assured me my taste buds would not be disappointed and they were not! The delicately crisp batter broke apart oozing melted cheese and sweet honey alongside a perfectly cooked courgette flower.
Up next was my choice of smoked haddock risotto and poached duck egg with wilted baby spinach. The haddock was smoked to perfection and the runny egg yolk added to the melt in you mouth softness of the risotto. This was hand's down my favourite dish of the night!
Then came the tortilla - a creamy, potato filled Spanish omelette which was a far cry from the usual stodgy omelettes I've had at other tapas restaurants.
Now I couldn't dine at a charcuterie without sampling some meat so I ordered myself the roast chicken with shaved jamon iberico, grapes, fino sherry and honey glaze. I thought it would be too much for once person (Sheena is a veggie) but the portion size was just right. The honey glaze provided a subtle sweetness to the saltiness of the jamon iberico and the chicken was cooked to tender perfection.
Last but not least was the truffled macaroni cheese which should not have worked, but did. The dish was deliciously creamy and gooey texture of the dish worked well with truffle flavouring throughout, although I wasn't a big fan of the crunchy topping.
Before we knew it, the savoury dishes were over and our attention turned to the desserts which we ended up skipping. Huge mistake as we had major food envy when we spotted the table next to us tucking into their desserts!
The food at The Salt Yard was excellent and the service was attentive but unobtrusive. If you're a fan of tapas, then I would definitely recommend a trip here!
Good tapas selection. Decent wine list - although gets pricey quickly. Personally I thoroughly enjoyed the meal I had there. I liked the decor. Can be informal eating at the bar or at a table. We had to start our meal at the bar then were able to move to a table as it was so full - which I personally think tells you all you need to know.
Really good for groups. Great tapas - order lots between you and share. The best dishes we had were scallops, pork belly, monkfish and zucchini.
March 2013 has been dreary, cold and snowy. When the weather is like this (and it often is) you just want to be cosy and snug inside a warm restaurant munching on some delicious dishes and sipping wine. Salt Yard is just what the doctor ordered. The restaurant has been at the forefront of the London tapas revolution and consistently recommended by people in the know. Spanish cheese selection (7.5/10) Boquerones (8/10) Jamón Ibérico de Bellota (8.5/10) The owners of the Salt Yard seem to have to have a knack for tapas restaurants and also operate the hugely successful Dehesa and Opera Tavern. The food at Salt Yard is equally good as it’s sister restaurants and is one of the best Spanish tapas restaurants in London (with Barrafina, Pizarro, Tozino, Brindisa, Donostia, Morito and off course Dehesa and Opera Tavern). Crab, saffron, pickeled fennel and watercress (8/10) Salt cod croquetas (8/10) Crispy baby squid, squid ink alioli and Puntarella (8.5/10) When we visited the Salt Yard we
A very good meal, great for lunch and especially when the sun is shining, I can't wait to go back and try more from the menu, plus getting down to Opera Tavern and Dehesa. Portion sizes are very reasonable, so don't be dishearten by some of the prices, you get more then you pay for, Just don't forget to book a table before you go, otherwise you may be disappointed.
All this perfection doesn't come cheap, but to get a feel for just how good Salt Yard is it's worth spending the money. Perhaps the pudding wines were a step too far, but if they're going to match them with the desserts, idiots like me will always splash out. And I regret nothing.
Salt Yard came to mind that serves bar snacks, charcuteries and cheese after lunch service in a cosy bar layout. Sitting at the bar on stools too high to touch the ground, we chatted the slicing techniques of the Iberico de bellota ham with the friendly staff. These black footed pigs were fed on acorn alone for its unique flavour and possibly the finest ham in the world. Greed degrades everything, in this case, if you cut a thick piece (machine can't help you now), it'll taste like minced pork with a lot of salt. I remember going to Pizarro wher
...escabeche of mackerel, fennel and baby broad beans which yielded a finely balanced sweet and salty taste combination. This was followed up by a feather-light chargrilled cuttlefish, fresh pea and pomegranate with a mint vinaigrette.
Despite various positive reviews from the bloggerati, Salt Yard has been sitting on my to-eat list for nearly a year now; so when I had cravings for Spanish tapas this was the first place I thought of. Located on Goodge Street, Salt Yard is a tiny little
Our first proper meal of the trip was dinner at Salt Yard. We knew this Spanish tapas restaurant was popular, so we made reservations weeks in advance. Sure enough, when we showed up, the place was packed. We grabbed a seat in the back and embraced the style of the menu, ordering a variety of small dishes. We started with a board of Jamon Iberico, arguably some of the best ham in the world. Saying that the ham melted in our mouths doesn’t do it justice, it was heavenly
Background: After sampling Salt Yard 's smoked swordfish with crushed potatoes and orange vinaigrette and stufffed courgette flowers at Taste of London recently, I placed the tapas bar firmly back on my London restaurant wishlist. It has a Bib Gourmand fr
The moist potato paste in the salt cod fritters melted in my mouth with loads of umami goodness. The crunch in the crumbly shell, nice. I was led to the basement bit, away from the shimmering sunshine of the Friday afternoon. I’m not alone for this one, C
I love tapas, and The Salt Yard is one of my favourite tapas places in London. We have eaten here a couple of times, and it’s really authentic – the jamon, leek and manchego croquettes are my favourite and rival some of the really traditional ones I ate when spending summer in Spain as a kid. The beef cheeks are also a firm favourite with us. Good wine selection.
Walked in to wait for a friend and ended up having one of the puddings; I regret not having had dinner here but looks like I'll be back to dine in soon.
Ordered the Baked Fig with Marsala, Espresso Mascarpone and Crushed Amaretti.
Mouthwatering.
If you have proper tastebuds, you'll appreciate a sweet-sour dessert.
Having dined at this place a number of times, this modern Tapas eatery has become my favourite for the Spanish cuisine. Set in London’s Noho area, if you like Tapas, then this is a must!
Serving an array of tapas, from Croquetas, pork cheeks, Courgette flowers, truffled macaroni etc. every little plate will give your taste buds a lovely little massage on the way down. Packed full of flavour, no wonder this place has kept me coming back for more. It’s like a party in your mouth and flavour was invited! There is plenty to choose from so you will always want to go back for more.
Service has always been good here, and the lady that works the bar is particularly friendly, and she seems to know some of the regulars, which is always a good sign. Some may think certain dishes are slightly overpriced, but I think they are worth it. They have a very good wine list, which may up the price of your bill, but very drinkable.
Salt Yard has a low key appearance from the outside, but the constant crowds and babble drifting from it makes its obvious that it’s a good place to be. Despite the array of tapas restaurants in London this one is seen as one on the pioneers and one of the best.
The small venue is composed of a handsome upstairs bar area filled with counter and front window seats as well as a few closely laid small tables. Those wanting something quieter can book a table in the dimly lit basement; however space here is limited here too.
Whilst dining upstairs among the hubbub of the bar allows views of the barmen whilst they create the drinks, a table in the basement allows for views of the busy kitchen and the chefs as they bring the menu to life.
Would I Want Seconds?
What makes Salt Yard one of the best tapas restaurants in London is a combination of the expertly sourced high quality ingredients and the attention to detail put into creating each of the dishes.
The regularly changing menu features a few highly recommended classics such as the Courgette Flowers stuffed with Goat's Cheese and drizzled with Honey and the Truffled Macaroni Cheese. Although diners cannot stop raving about these two dishes the more adventurous flavour combinations are also worth a try, including warm potato and beetroot salad with nettle pesto and the Slow Cooked Octopus with Ratte Potatoes, Lemon, Chilli and Capers.
The menu here isn't extensive, but there is a section for meat, fish and vegetable tapas amongst which there is much variety.
Additionally there is also a collection of carefully selected Spanish/Italian wine from which the staff are happy to help you choose.
Could I Afford Seconds?
The prices for a tapas dish at Salt Yard vary depending on the ingredients, and so the average price for a vegetarian dish is £5.50. A fish or meat dish however will cost more like £9 each and so as with many tapas restaurants, it is easy to build up the bill when ordering many small dishes.
The delicious desserts cost an average of £6.50 and are definitely worth a try.
There are also 2 set menus to choose from costing either £35 or £40, which would work well for those who tempted to order everything from the menu.
Overall:
Salt Yard isn’t spoken about widely and there isn’t a constant social media buzz around it as with other restaurants in London and this means it is a bit of a hidden gem.
This is the perfect place for those looking to have a drinks with something more than the usual bar snacks, as well as for those who desire a luxurious meal with variety and style.
I love tapas and Salt Yard in fashionable Fitzrovia, with its abundance of chic bars and trendy restaurants, delivers great food, for the most part, in an intimate environment and holds its own in a highly competitive foodie landscape.
My party of 8 attended for an early Saturday dinner and we were quickly shown to our seats downstairs and drinks ordered. Note that the wine list is on the pricey side with no red under £23 that I can recall seeing and plenty over £50. We had pre-booked the set menu so didn't have to wait long for the dishes to start arriving - delicious bread, Serrano ham and Manchego cheese were delivered and dispatched in quick order.
Particular highlights included the Courgette Flowers stuffed with Goats Cheese and drizzled with Honey which were light, crunchy and unusually sweet but tasty for it, Crispy Baby Squid, Gremolata and Saffron Aioli which disappeared especially quickly from our table and my favourite of the night Confit Old Spot Pork Belly with Rosemary Scented Cannellini Beans which was cooked perfectly with a crispy crackling and melt in the mouth pork. Special mention too for the Ricotta Dumplings dessert, essentially a freshly fried doughnut with soft cheese centre that demanded to be eaten.
Easily the worst dish of the night was the Roast Loch Duart Salmon, Mussel and Saffron Risotto which had the rather unfortunate flavour of disinfectant running through it and was frankly a bit of a disaster.
Despite the salmon the evening was a success, the restaurant buzzing with chat throughout, a good atmosphere and unusually for this sort of place lighting that actually allows you to see what you're eating. I'll definitely be back to sample more of the menus delights.
Salt yard, located a short walk from Goodge street station has tough competition these days with so many new restaurants opening in the area, Barrica and the newly opened Bubbledogs to name a few. Despite all this competition they are always packed, booking is advised.
Salt yard opened its doors in 2005 and since then expanded with Dehesa and Opera Tavern, the group now collectively known as, salt yard group. The food here is all about sharing in tapas form with both Italian and Spanish dishes, a mouth watering selection of hams and cheeses. The atmosphere is very laid back and a lovely place for meeting friends or maybe a date perhaps.
The menu is small but very well thought out and something for everyone and any appetite. We started with some chargrilled country bread and olive oil; the bread had a beautiful aroma and was the best piece of bread I have had in a while. I'm not sure what they had done to it but something was definitely added on the top during the grilling process.
Marjoram and chilli salami which is house cured was very nice. Extremely soft and tender with a delicate flavour to not overpower the meat itself was executed to perfection. The meat was presented on a wooden slab, alot of attention to detail here throughout the menu.

Popped here for lunch and it was lovely! Great food, section and service. Nice environment and good value for money too. Will be back!
Just popped in on a whim and sat at the bar. Lovely, friendly people. The chorizo and fabada was superb. The octopus excellent, but just lacking slightly the punch needed to make it stand out. Was expecting a greater selection of Spanish reds by the glass. I would nonetheless return here often. Very cozy, small, warm and intimate. Quite loud.
Salt yard has been on my list places I’ve wanted to go to for a while now so I was pleased when we had the chance to go with some visiting relatives. We were sat downstairs with a view into the kitchen (which I enjoyed, as I got to see the buzz and the food coming out).
We ordered a range of items for the 5 of us and overall the food was delicious, every dish had its own distinct and well paired flavours. Who thought a grilled lettuce would be so good!
Service was ok, I felt that our waiter might have been a little too busy as he had the whole lower ground floor to contend with. It’s meant drinks often ran dry. The only other issue was that the churros were a bit overdone, but otherwise everything else was cooked perfectly.
I’d definitely go back if we get the chance as the menu seems to change with the seasons. If you do go soon, the lamb was great (I think we were lucky, when we were ordering we were told they ran out, but half way through it came back on the menu so we ordered it), the baby gem was also fantastic.
One of my favourite restaurants in London! High quality food, reasonable prices and deliciousness. I always love to have the whole sea bass. Carmine goes the extra mile to make your experience exceptional!!
So happy that we found this place. Brought my friend her for her birthday as her fave is tapas. And we were both very happy with the gambas pil pil, don’t forget to order the flat bread with rosemary (as suggested by our wonderful server Elizabeth- we ordered a portion each because I’m greedy but the bread is possibly the best rosemary flatbread I’ve tried), the fish (can’t remember but their new dish), the ox cheek was great too! And service was excellent and thank u Elizabeth for being a star! Highly recommended!
Salt yard was lovely. A really good choice for some higher end tapas options. A really good selection of dishes that were surprising but also comforting and tasty. I would recommend the squid and the croquettes. The staff were friendly. It’s a bit pricey but as expected for this quality of restaurant.
Really enjoyed our dinner here, loved how the waitress said “I think that should be enough on your order” in case we had no space for dessert (there were two of us and we ordered 8 items) instead of letting us over order.
Very well prepared dishes with nice experimental mix of flavours. All were delicious but the top 3 from our 8 I think were the pork belly, grilled octopus and duck.
The charcuterie platter had a nice mix of meats.
The cocktails were yummy too! We had the mains with a beautiful carafe of Tempranillo suggested by the waitress.
Happy to return again in future.
Absolutely amazing each and every time - I genuinely can't recommend them enough. Their dishes are always special and the presentation is absolutely beautiful - I guarantee that you won't be able to get them anywhere else. You can absolutely tell that the chef has an amazing palate as well, their flavour combinations are just something special - some of them shouldn't work but they 100% do. The place has great ambiance and lovely staff as well, I really can't say anything bad about them!

I really enjoyed the food here. It's quite authentic Spanish food many in tapas form. The staff is lovely. The wine list is very good with fantastic food pairings. You can eat at the bar which is really good if you're on your own.
Enjoyed the tapas here, very good. Customer service was good once we were moved to a better table. Initially placed on a table by the thoroughfare by the stairs, but my husband asked for a better table, at first the waitress said they were fully booked (even though there were clearly empty tables) but another lady stepped in and then we were moved downstairs to a lovely booth. Hence the 4 stars, otherwise would have been 5 stars.
Lovely cheffy small plates aka Tapas meets modern European cuisine but not up itself as it very much were. Lovely, kind and genuine service from our waitress. Not cheap but fair prices for the place and quality.
A beautiful tapas cafe you'd be surprised to find near the university belt of London. We were welcomed heartily by restaurant staff, who were attentive, efficient, and always smiling as they went about their business.
The food itself was gorgeous and bold, combining photogenic arrangements with surprising taste combinations. I strongly recommend both the beef steak and the crispy pork belly. Haddock croquettes tasted surprisingly well, and the asparagus spears had unfamiliar but delightful notes infused into it.
The restaurant also prepares a really good sangria, which I could drink all day. Overall, an excellent experience!
Absolutely amazing! Such a delicious menu. Would be coming back. Tried mussels too which were perfectly cooked. 👌
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening here and highly recommend it. It is a higher end small plate tapas restaurant. We had 5 dishes, flatbread and a desert for the two of us and that was plenty. The flavors and sauces are excellent. Definitely order a flatbread as it is great to get the last bit of the sauces.
We started with the smoked burrata and asparagus. Followed by the chorizo, salmon and pork belly. Our favorite was the grilled chorizo. I tend toward vegetarian but I enjoyed all the dishes.
If you like chocolate, don’t miss the chocolate fondant. I could have ordered another!!
I managed to be seated without a reservation here, the staff were incredibly attentive, polite and respectful, they made this place so pleasant to visit. The highlight of my order was the gambas pil pil and the flatbread if I could eat that everyday, I would! The black squid ink risotto was unusual, rich in flavour but the crisp yet soft texture was lovely with the perfectly fried calamari. Wasn't too much of a fan of the octopus and the patatas bravas, the goats cheese fried courgette flower wasn't to my taste either. The buratta was a little sickly too but again these are just based off my pallete and not to say somebody else won't enjoy them. Presentation was beautiful for everything and the service was quick
Easily one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I've had in a long time! Everything was stellar, from the food and drinks to the service.
Lovely atmosphere inside with tables and bar seats, as well as some tables outside. Service was friendly and everything arrived in good time.
The food was absolutely delicious, but also just really good fun to eat. The plates all had bold colours and flavours and smells; it was a proper feast for the senses! I find that fine dining can sometimes feel quite repressed and restrained, even if the food itself is exquisite. But Saltyard have managed to create a casual dining experience that still delivers exceptional food. We tired about 10 different things and every single plate was excellent, but if we had to pick our favourites they would probably be the burrata, the courgette flowers, the pork belly and the honey ice cream.
The drinks too were all very good, but the Sgroppino was on another level. Without a shadow of a doubt the most delicious drink I've had in recent memory. The perfect balance of sweetness and acidity in the lemon sorbet that gives way to a wonderful mellow floral aroma from the chamomile and the prosecco. It was just brilliant!
With regard to pricing, I have to admit that my initial reaction upon seeing the bill was one of shock, but when we actually broke it down we were pleasantly surprised. Excluding service it came out to about £50 per person, which is pretty good considering the central London location and the quality of the food. Bear in mind that we splurged and had a lot to eat and drink, so it is absolutely possible to have a meal here for quite a bit less than that.
Overall I genuinely don't think I can find fault with any aspect of our meal, which is something I don't often get to say. If you're looking for a fun, flavour-filled dinner and drinks then I cannot recommend this place enough!
Edit: I'm still thinking about that f**king drink on the train home; I already want another one!
