I loved this place so, so much. This was my first ever experience at a Michelin star restaurant and I wasn't sure if it would all be overblown hype, but everything from the cocktails to the food to the service and the ambiance was just perfect. Now I am just sad that I live in America and can't come back every month :( Thank you Amaya for an amazing dinner.

Have visited here twice. Last visit was on the weekend. Cannot fault the service or food. Always flavourful, and due to seasonal menu it’s always exciting to try something new.
We were a full vegetarian crowd and a vegan. They happily catered and altered dishes to meet our requirements.

Very nice experience and very tasty food, everything we ordered is in the photos, except for the Basil chicken chops. Everything we ordered is recommended. Also, some of us ordered prawns from the starter but they are not my style. However, who tried it says it is good. The gulab Jamon was good too.

One of the finest Indian restaurants in London. Great atmosphere where (depending on your table) you can also see the chefs at work. Nice range of dishes - particularly liked the tandoori prawn and the biryani, but the absolute stand-out was the lamb sushi! It made me wonder why it hadn’t been done before! Excellent service and good cocktails rounded off a wonderful evening.

I’ve been here a few times but over 7-8 years ago and always remembered their food being amazing. I suggested this place to celebrate a friends birthday and boy it did not disappoint. They have kept the same (if not better) standard, taste, ambience and flavour! We ordered the tasting menu and it was just unreal. I got the veggie one and each dish was literally ‘melt in the mouth’. My friends also said that the meat dishes were really tender and delicious. The cocktails were also awesome especially the lychee and rose martini. The service was faultless. A lot of people say that you can’t find a good authentic fine dining/Michelin Indian restaurant but I disagree. This food definitely was authentic and very filling. I would highly recommend Amaya. It’s just perfect.

First experience of Indian fine dining. Contemporary food with some twist.
Service was impeccable and everyone couldn’t do enough.
Nice atmosphere with the food being the focus.
The food was interesting. Tasty in parts and amazingly presented. Did it have the wow factor. Not sure it did. It was good, some was very good but not enough things were very good.
Maybe I needed to try something different but as a group we had quite a lot of different dishes.
I’d go again and try other things.
It’s expensive but a nice treat. Worth a try but be ready not to be blown away.

I loved the restaurant and I think that everyone who likes Indian food will love it too.
The meat was perfectly grilled and seasoned, lamp chops are a must - even if you are not a fan of lamp. In general all the food tasted authentic and it was well presented.
I would recommend getting some small dishes and enjoy them by sharing. Even if you are a biriyani fan, don't stick to it and try to experience as much as you can from the menu.
The only downside for me would be the desserts. They were not at the same level as the main food. Kulfi texture was great but nothing special, also the cheesecake, even though it was good, there was no real subcontinental twist in it, just the jalebi on top.
In conclusion, it was a great experience! I would like to visit again!

Right, so the speciality of Amaya is grilled Indian meat. You can call that’s their signature. Lots of lovely grilled meats and we tried the seabass, paneer tikka and the pepper chicken tikka and venison Kebabs. All were pretty good. Decent wine list to accompany and also some good desserts to finish off.
Service was good too.
They are a bit lacking on the curry front. There are a few options on curries but they aren’t their best offerings. Definitely a good place for grilled meats.
Verdict - as above ! Very good Indian grilled meat / veggie options but not a lot on curries. They do biryanis but we didn’t try so can’t say about them.
Budget - meal for 2 easily 200-250 plus with 1 wine bottle ( also depends on how many grilled options you choose )

It was by far one of my best Indian food experiences! There was a slight hiccup with the reservation, which was sorted swiftly. The rest was dreamlike till I left the restaurant. The service was impeccable, and the staff were genuinely nice. The food was delightful, in an amazing low key ambiance. The dessert was inevitably delicious, making this place a destination that I’d come back to every time I visit London.

Great Indian restaurant, one of the best in London, highly recommended I will come back!
For my personal taste and experience second rank after Trishna, but way better than Gymkhana.
The chicken that I took was properly cooked without overcooking.
A tasty marinade and super rich flavour.
I also took a wonderful seafood with a particular chutney, the balance between flavors was spectacular.
My girlfriend took a hand made paneer that was simply amazing.
Our waiters were really kind and welcoming, but we could here some noise from the grill and that's why I didn't give full 5 stars.
The wines we took were another incredible choice.

Great food and service at Amaya in Mayfair. We booked on a Tuesday evening for dinner and the dining room was full.
The location was slightly difficult to find (situated down an alley just past Pantechnicon).
Service was great as the evening progressed but felt awkward initially (something to do with drinks and getting food menus which I won’t bore you with).
Food was delicious with interesting flavour combinations and a modern twist on Indian food executed well. Stand out items for me were the seafood platter (a cooked scallop, oyster and prawn) and the chaat in a tart.

taste wise the food was delicious but a little on the bland side for me - at least on the spice level - even the biryani (though tasty) had like the masala chai level of spice for me
over all a very good experience and I ended up eating too much

Michelin starred Amaya, in a little passage off Motcomb Street, is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of London’s most chic and sophisticated Indian restaurants. Forget flock wallpaper and lurid pictures of elephants, here it’s all about a contemporary vibe, dark and very softly lit. As such, it has the reputation of being one of the capital’s most romantic restaurants, though it might not be an ideal choice for a first date because it’s so popular, buzzy and noisy, that there’s no chance of whispered sweet nothings being heard by your paramour. Tables are comfortably well spaced out but even so, you have to be of good of voice to conduct a meaningful conversation.

I've been to their other restaurants like Veeraswamy at Regent Street and the ambiance is the best thing about them. The food is not as good as Veeraswamy's, in terms of variety (especially for vegetarians). They only have potatoes and a yellow dal, which despite being excellent are hardly an Indian meal😛 Nevertheless, I have no complaints about the non-vegetarian food. The chicken tikka and Peshawari Murgh were top-notch. I would come here with people who enjoy non-vegetarian food.

It is hard to believe that Amaya is a Michelin-starred restaurant. We love Indian food but had the worst experience ever at any restaurant globally that we've dined at over the years (and we only dine at Michelin-starred restaurants). My wife and I were in London for business and were hosting another couple for dinner, one of whom use to be a high level British Diplomat to India. I told the maître d'hôtel that I was allergic to nuts, fish and seafood so would like for him to make sure there were none of these ingredients in the food I ordered. You know what he said. He said we can't serve you and you'll have to leave. My wife and I and our two guests had already ordered wine and cocktails ahead of placing our food order. Instead of saying let us see what we can do for you, the maître d'hôtel basically and incompetently did not even offer to try to accommodate my dietary needs. On top of that he handed us a check charging us for the full bottle of wine even though at the time only one person had a glass, i.e. the bottle was full. Unbelievable because the right thing to do would have been to say I'm sorry and there is no charge. Instead the wait staff tried to charge us for the whole bottle of wine. I screamed and yelled at the wait staff and the maitre d'hôtel and told him we were not paying for a full bottle of wine which we did not drink. The next thing we knew he brought the check back without a charge for the bottle of wine but charging my guest for the small pour of the wine she had started drinking but could not finish. Does this feel like Michelin-star service. The last time I checked at a Michelin-starred restaurant, the customer comes first. I next asked him what kind of bucket shop restaurant this was because who in their right mind would ask a customer to leave and charge them for a bottle of wine they had not been able to drink or finish. This restaurant is clueless with regards to customer service. We did not even get a chance to try the food because they asked us to leave. The maître d'hôtel has no sense of decorum and no sense of trying to accommodate a customer. Awful Awful service. We did not even get a chance to try the food. We were so offended. We went back to the Berkeley Hotel where we were staying and told the Concierge who recommended the restaurant that it was the worst experience ever and not to recommend this restaurant to any guests because it was the most offensive service we had ever seen. On top of that the wait staff was incompetent and spilt my martini on me when they brought it to our table. I can't comprehend why this restaurant is rated so highly because the service is absolutely the worst ever.

This place serves three types of meals- tandoori, tawa and grilled . I was fascinated to see a place serving Indian on the menu without any dish having gravy in it ! I particularly liked the fact that they had mentioned the calories of their salads on the menu. I tried - mushroom, lentil biryani and pomegranate Boondi raita . It was the best I've ever had ! I also tried the paneer tandoori tikka which was served with two different but very tasty chutneys. The presentation was excellent , the ambience was spot on specially the cutlery 😍 lol and the service was excellent . Cost for two people came around £50. I would say a pricey Indian place with a totally different concept ! Must visit !

Amaya is a very nicely setup Resturant right in the heart of London. The kitchen is in the back and open with all the tandoori pits.
For it was a tale of two experiences. The first time we came here it was two of us. We had an amazing 2 hr relaxed lunch. We had all the grilled meats. The pepper chicken was awesome and the lamb chops were amazing. All these downed with a nice bottle of Chablis.
The second time the group was large and it was not possible to order the grilled food. So we did the combo platter. The platter had several items. I feel like I’m five, says C, waving his arms high in the air and simulating an exaggerated knife and fork movement. The chairs in the raised section of the restaurant are too low or the tables are too high, it doesn’t matter which. Obviously, I point this out and the maître d’ suggests I might like a cushion. C is a man and therefore unable to accept the offer of a cushion without simultaneously having to kill himself.

The funny thing is that we stayed there for 15 min and no one came. I really liked this place, the vibe was great, alive and bustling. It was busy but not cramped, the smell of the food was intense and exciting, especially before you've ordered. You find yourself incredibly hungry just because of the scent.

The food was exciting, a great twist on Indian cuisine. Even if you're not a big fan, you'll find something on the menu that suits you.

My beautiful friend Deema.ac (we seem to dine together a lot) has a few dietary requirements that they were happy to abide by and they even have an allergy list so you know what you can order, and what you (sadly) can't.

Let's talk about the broccoli for a minute, because I never thought it could taste so heavenly yet be so simple and non-pretentious. It was by far the best broccoli dish I've ever tasted in an establishment. It comes with this strange sweet yogurt that is just incredibly delicious.

Those curried scallops? Oh my! Don't forget to order them, not only do they look like a piece of art, they taste like the louvre in your mouth.

Their cocktail list is extensive and unique, be sure to try at least one, and be adventurous because you never know.

I did prefer the monkfish at Zaika to the one here, but that's not to say that it wasn't delicious.

Now the part - the live kitchen visible from almost all tables u take is quite a watch.
The presentation of food is top rated & so is the taste. The cottage cheese staters really impressed me with the way it was marinated wit spices. We have dined at a few Michelin-starred restaurants before – but they have all been French inspired. This is our first Michelin dining with Indian flavour. We liked it.

Like most restaurants in this area, Amaya is elegantly decorated. You walk in to a combination of black, red, wood, and crystal decorations – very pretty. At the far end of the restaurant is the open kitchen consisting of grilling station (char coal for their signature grill dishes), tandoori station (for their naans and tandooris) and salad station. The curries, stir-fries, and biryanis are made in a kitchen area you cannot see.

Other than the normal 2-4-6 tables, they have a high stool long table (seems great for a large casual group), and a private dining room downstairs for a more fancy group dining. We were seated a few tables from the grilling station, and it can get smoky at times. The chairs look nice, but not comfortable.

Again, like most restaurants in this area, the menu items are NOT cheap. We opted for a special weekend lunch menu, which includes 7 items + naan for £30 per person (£26 per person + 12.5% service charge). This is quite reasonable for a Michelin star restaurant.

You get a good amount of food, so you will walk out quite stuffed. The set menu doesn’t include their signature amazing-looking-and-very-expensive grilled jumbo prawns. Order it if you can afford it – it really looks amazing.

Sadly, we ended up being so stuffed we did not have room for dessert. We walked out full to the brim and satisfied.

Note: their website is extremely hard to navigate. Set menu prices scatter on various pages. Menu is NOT available on the website.

Amaya is a Michelin Star restaurant in the heart of Belgravia focused of beautiful Indian cuisine. We went here on a Sunday and had an amazing lunch. Getting home was a bit of a blur as we were so full I think I entered this sort of food coma. The menu consists of a la carte dishes as well as a variety of weekend lunch set menus comprised of around 7 - 8 dishes to be shared by the whole table. We went with one of this set menus as we wanted to try as many dishes as possible. We started off with paneer which is a type of Indian cheese- very fluffy and delicious. The spinach was my favourite especially when you have warm naan next to you that you can just rip and dig in. The crispy potatoes were another of my favourites- so aromatic with spices and crunchy on the outside while soft on the inside. Now I know this kebab is not one of the prettiest dishes but it was quite good although a bit too salty for me. My favourite meat dish was definitely the chicken which had a lovely smokey flavour and was cooked beautifully. I wasn`t a massive fan of the fish mainly because I don`t really like coconut on savoury dishes however it looked like it was cooked beautifully. The last dish of the set menu was the beryani with rose petals yogurt. By that time I was so full I was only able to had a few bites but my boyfriend definitely had at least half of it.

This really enhanced our experience, and is exceptionally important when considering a dining experience.

The food is a fusion of Indian and Japanese, and the edemame sheesh kebab was very good. However, the rest of the food was distinctly average and lacked both flavour and spice.

Overall, Amaya is a nice restaurant with very good service, however the food was average, so I don't think it was worth the price.

Amaya is an Indian grill at a really good location. It is interesting as you can see food being made. Makes you appreciate the freshness of the ingredients. The cuisine is a little different from usual Indian restaurants and seems a little more healthy. It is an interesting experience and I would most defiantly recommend you visit this place at least once.

So relaxing!

A friendly and elegant Indian Restaurant in the heart of Hyde Park. The food is deliciously Indian with veggies and fruit according to season.

There are many dishes on the menu and looking around I saw that all of them were presented in a great way! The char-grilled (jumbo) Madagascan prawn is a typical dish that even the server will suggest you. You should definitely try it!

Service so friendly and interior of the place is just great! Have a look at the pictures.

You will probably spend around £25/30 for a good meal.

Do not miss it.

Amaya is a gorgeous restaurant. It’s not over done or over powering, in fact the decor is just perfect. The first thing that hits you is the amount of natural light filling the space, from sky lights to an entire side wall made of glass.
This makes the restaurant very atmospheric and allows it to look so drastically different in the day and the evening. Reflecting this there are two main spaces: the centre of the restaurant has a lighter feel to it as there are lots of chic mirrors bouncing of the aqua greens and sky blues; the later section is more oriental and composed of dark reds, dim lighting and candles.

An nice addition is the fact that the food is prepared right in front of the diners, everything from including grilling the chicken and chopping the onion, meaning the diners will receive occasional and tantalising wafts of the cuisine.

Would I Want Seconds?
Oh yes. What astounded me about Amaya was that unlike many of the Indian restaurants I’ve visited the food here actually tasted authentic. Now Amaya doesn’t claim to serve authentic Indian cuisine, instead it inserts a twist to it by grilling traditional Indian dishes, yet despite this the choice and portions of spices used on the food was enough to hark back to authentic Indian dishes.

I opted for the Amaya platter which allowed me to taste substantial amount of 7 different main courses. It goes without saying that all the dishes effused the delicate spices used in Indian cuisine, such as cumin and saffron. I would say that it is quite an achievement to transform the presentation and manner of cooking traditional Indian dishes but still maintain the essential balance of spices that makes it taste so good!

Could I Afford Seconds:
I would say no; but this isn’t a ridiculously expensive option when it comes to dining in the Belgravia area. The platter was definitely worth the price due to the variety of main courses dishes provided as well as a decently sized salad to start and dessert to finish. On the whole the entire platter was totally worth the cost and I would have gladly paid more for it.

This may be because Amaya does have lunch offers, such as the lunch platter, though dinner may be slightly more up to Belgravian standards.

Overall:
I had been awaiting for an excuse to visit Amaya for ages and the food, decor and cost was all totally worth it. I found the staff really very friendly and easy to get along with which added to the experience.

The tandoori ocean wild prawn was a big bugger at least, but so overcooked that the flesh no longer resembled anything that had come from the ocean. The tomatoey paste that covered it was also dry and dull in flavour.

Top class Indian meal. I am a great fan of Indian cuisine and spices and this is by far one of the best Indian restaurants i have visited.

Do not expect your average Indian restaurant, do not expect a curry instead expect finely grilled meats, marinated in the finest spices.

The portions are light, so desserts are tempting and tasty. Date of Visit - 8/4/14 7pm

Amaya. It’s a great name for a baby girl, but it's also the name of a Michelin Stared Indian restaurant in Knightsbridge, recently ranked the 7th best eatery in the UK and the 76th best in the entire world. I went along with a friend (we will call her Dee) and Halal Gems to experience my first every taste of Michelin Stared food.

The first thing I found when looking into making a reservation for 3 on a Tuesday evening was that I couldn’t find a menu online nor could I find the prices of anything. This raised a few concerns to my wallet but I felt like I deserved a treat, the Amaya websites states that the average food spend is £50 to £70.

Amaya is located in Chelsea and is tucked away within an Arcade off the back streets of Belgravia. The décor has a classy and chic feel to it, mixed with dimmed lighting and open spaces.

We were explained the concept behind the ordering style; many of the dishes are Indian Tapas and designed to share with everyone and brought out once each meal is ready, so there will always be a steady flow of dishes. There are a lot of options on the menu and it did feel a little overwhelming, so what does one do in a situation like this? Go for the safe set menu option. So Halal Gems and I went for the Amaya Tasting menu, minimum of 2 people whilst Dee went for the Vegetarian Menu, which is for one person. This meant that the Vegetarian menu you get 2 of each item per person, whilst the Amaya tasing menu you get 2 items between 2 people…

Let's review each dish at a time, what I am going to do is remove the price and environment factor out of the equation and just talk about the food, with regards to taste, quality, flavour and presentation. The first to arrive was the Minced chicken lettuce parcels with treads of apple garnish and the Avocado Salad. Now here was I was expecting with my first bite of "one stared" food, an explosion of flavour and taste, but I didn't get that. What I got was a more somewhat underwhelming mouthful of interesting texture of minced chicken wrapped in lettuce, as you can see the presentation is elegant. Salad is not really my thing so I let Dee have that all to herself.

Next, we had a 2 pieces of Chill and Rose Chicken Tika, which meant just one each whilst Dee had the Tandoori Panner. The chicken was well cooked, soft and very tender but there wasn't much flavour or spice to the chicken, I was surprised that it wasn't accompanied with some sauce on the side; however we did have 4 different chutneys.

Griddled Fillets of Sea Bass, Shakartand Chaat and Grilled Stuffed Pepper were up next. Any type of Allo Chaat is a personal favourite of mine, I particularly like tamarind sauce, this was a great dish for sharing; light, simple and tasty. The Sea Bass was completely forgetful, almost no spice or flavour, even while staring at my pictures im having a hard time to recall anything memorable from the Sea Bass. The Grilled Peppers were stuffed with cheese; this cute dish was memorable for its unique look of small peppers and taste of its rich cheese.

Following this was what I was looking forward to, The Grilled Lamb Chops! Also served in this around was the Spinach & Fig Takki and the Edamame Seekh Kebab. The Chops were a good size and covered in nuts, which was different. A few months a ago I had chops from Dishoom and remembering having a foodgasm in my mouth because they where so good. These chops weren't on the same scale sadly. I don't think being coated in nuts helped with enhancing the taste, they were cooked to how I prefer, medium rare, but I didn't get that full fatty flavour from the juices of the meat.

Surprisingly the Spinach & Fig Takki which is featured in both set menus was one of the best things I remember eating on the night. I liked the texture and the interesting mix of ingredients that really gave this dish a strong and standout taste.

Just when we thought the rounds of food were over we were hit with the Biryani's! At this point we were all feeling a tad on the full side. I like Biryani with moisture and found this too dry. Again, like with most meals it didn't impress me, I found really simple and basic with its lack of complex usage of ingredients and spices. The Biryani was served with Raita.

Once we allowed enough time to pass it was desert time, A lime Tart with well, I wish I knew the name of it, I'm going to just call it jelly with a mint on top. It was a nice, sweet way to end the entire meal.

Taking into account all of the about overall the food was overpriced and average. I can't recommend a single dish, nothing really stood out for its taste and use of flavours. The presentation of the dishes were good but not amazing. It's very difficult to justify the food spend here; I've had the same experience at Mint Leaf for quarter of the price.

One thing I can’t explain about is leaving hungry, we were well a truly stuffed. The courses kept coming and coming, when we thought we came to the end we were hit with another dish.

The service, while professional, felt cold and somewhat robotic. There was a lack of a personal touch and warmth, the introductions to the dishes felt rushed and passive. When dishes were served weren't informed to which menu they belonged which caused some confusion between sharing amounts between us. The naan was brought out after our first round of dishes and too soon before our next round of meals, which meant I had to send it back as it got too cold. Now that I think about it, there were only 2 naans between 3 people, despite each menu carrying a naan. I felt for a outlet like Amaya the service could have been more attentive, yes we did get a manger visit us on twice to check on us, but I wanted him to engage more and ask open questions.

My bill came to just under £70 with mock tail and 12.5% service. The Amaya Tasting Menu is £55.

For a Michelin stared establishment I was expecting more from the food, I was hoping for a memorable culinary experience with outstanding cuisine, but I didn't get it. What I got was a feeling of being cheated as I felt the dining experience unfulfilling and falling short of my expectations. My taste buds weren't woken up by any dish. Maybe I should manage my expectations better… or should I expect more from the "7th best" restaurant in the UK!?

The Chicken and Lamb are verbally confirmed as being Halal.

Food - 3
Value - 1
Service - 4
Atmosphere/Presentation - 4

Fusion Indian. This is one of the best places I've eaten in London. Indian food, but with a fusion style. They bring the plates to you as they are ready. We ordered a bunch of different dishes and shared them, so we spent the entire time eating as they brought the food, plate after plate. It was a great way to share a meal and the food is amazing. WE ordered a second of a few plates because they were so good! Service is excellent. This is a great place for a romantic date or to get together with friends. Don't miss it!!!!

The meal ended with the star dish of our lunch, chicken biryani. Succulent morsels of well marinated chicken at the bottom of the pot and layers of fluffy white rice which was perfumed with delicate spices, rose and i think a little bit of saffron. All encased with a pastry seal it was probably the most delicate, and refined biryani i have ever eaten. It tasted expensive.

The open grill at Amaya is tantalising to watch, an unrestricted arena where unexpected tastes blend with traditional Indian cooking methods of tandoor, sigri and tawa. A range of sea and land dwelling creatures are basted in homespun marinades and seared on charcoal flames, hotter than the fiery pits of Hades. This passion is whispered throughout the plush opulence of Amaya where dusky mahogany meets warm rosewood, and crystals hang like polished stalactites in this sultry Aladdin’s cave.

Indian Amaya is my favourite Indian restaurant in London. Food is amazing and it does not even matter what you are going to order as all the dishes will be great. The key here is spices and every dish is made in a wonderful mix of spices, it is not hot, just very interesting, full of flavurs. The chicken is super tender, the kebabs are wonderful and the main thing is they serve amazing curries (which not a lot of the up scale and more expensive Indian restaurants do) and the curries are so nice and have zero oil you almost feel so healthy eating them.

Amaya is to Indian restaurants what Taj Mahal is to natural wonders. It is special, it is exquisite and one of the best. There is nothing wrong with the restaurant, the food is great, the service couldn't have been better, the menu is filled with interesting combinations...
We ordered the kebabs which just melt in your mouth and the Rasmalai among other items. The food and atmosphere at Amaya were very good. The service was less successful.

Beverages were a problem all evening. We never received a wine list, and our servers never offered to refill our glasses, even when they came to the table to serve other members of our party. When one of us wanted more water or wine, the onus was on us to flag down a staff member to request it, and getting someone's attention was not always easy.

After we were seated, our server disappeared for a good deal of time (I would estimate at least 15-20 minutes), leaving us to try to make sense of what and how much to order from the menu. When he returned, he commented that he thought we'd been to the restaurant before.
Having researched Amaya's reputation, we were quite excited about dining there. Unfortunately, because of the service aspect of the evening, I would not recommend this establishment. There are too many other good restaurants in London.

We been to Amaya last weekend and their Cocktails were interesting and terrific. Great service and wonderful concept of sharing dishes. Every dish was delicious and the seafood platter was outstanding as was the beef and the dal and the curries as well, you get the idea!! Recommend to anyone who likes Indian food or who has never tried it. This was our second visit and we can't wait to go back. They customise the way we want our food. I love garlic and spicy indian food. I liked my dal with double tadka ..it was amazing.

Amaya is crème-de-la-crème of fine dinning, very befitting the posh address.

We had gone for a private dinner and were served off a set menu. Each serving was served as if an artist was presenting his art - the colour, the presentation and the accompanying in depth explanation by the waiters of the food and the preparation left us stumped. The wine is exhaustive and you can get almost every variety to make your occasion special.

You won't find the menu on any website; they prefer to keep things special. Whether it is for personal or professional celebration, this place would make it memorable.

The restaurant is worth a visit first due to its nice atmosphere and concept of Indian 'tapas' and structure of the menu! The place is gorgeous! :)) And the restaurant is dedicated to good taste more than merely the traditional 'Indian spicy and that's all'. Service is EXCELLENT!

The naan with the chutneys is a must try to start with. The goat cheese salad 'a la India' is really good as well! The kebabs are really delicious!

The foie gras is not that spectacular, though. Lovers of foie gras are better off in a French restaurant! But I am sure you will find plenty of other delicious dishes here!

Amaya, which belongs to the same group as Chutney Mary (which I have eaten at once and didn’t rate very highly) and Veeraswamy, is a dark but certainly stylish restaurant and looks like one of these places that start with serving dinner and are turned into a nightclub later on during the course of the evening. It serves up-market Indian style tapas which has earned it a Michelin star for several years running. Dishes are meant to be shared and the menu is not only divided into lamb, poultry, seafood and vegetarian dishes, but also into dishes to arrive at the table early, medium, or late. Most dishes can also be ordered as a ‘small’ (2 pieces) or ‘large’ (4 pieces) portion, which is thoughtful and makes sharing easy.
Curry fact of the day…It was the Portuguese that brought chillies to India! On a slightly different matter, far from the shores of Goa and Lisbon, lies an upmarket, Michelin star Indian restaurant by the name of Amaya, sister of Chutney-Mary, just off a quiet street in Knightsbridge. Now, my quest for quality desi grub in the big smoke has been quite a roller coaster, so there wasn't really much expectation for Amaya, after all, the last two Michelin Indians were a good lesson in disappointment. Oh, and then there was a moment where the waiter, clearly of Indian origin, asked if we wanted 'naan bread'! Yes, this is, as I have recently had a fit about on Twitter, the same as asking if one would like 'croissant bread' or 'cocoa chocolate' or 'pilau rice'. It's just not right! The menu, on the other hand, was full of dishes just asking to be ordered, and being the one left in charge of making that decision, it was a swift flight before my mind had the opportunity to confuse itself. . I think overall we found it to be a pleasant experience. We enjoyed the drinks that we had ordered and in particular the monkfish tikka, tofu tikka, chicken wing lollipops, half duck, lamb chops and aubergines. The atmosphere was great very relaxing and felt at home. The staff were very attentive and friendly.

However we did think that some of the dishes we had ordered unfortunately were over powered by some of the spices used. In particular too much cumin was used on the wok fried spinach and the prawns which had completely spoiled the delicate flavours of the spinach and prawns, and the Lamb dori kebab we felt was under spiced. The chicken tikka was again also over spiced with the black pepper corns but the meat was very moist and succulent. We felt that although the service was very good it was not good enough for a Michelin starred restaurant where it should be unquestionably exceptional so this was disappointing. For example it was disappointing that the naan bread was not brought properly in the correct portions and it was some time after that the waiter explained that there was more en-route. Some of the dishes were taking longer than expected but again only later the waiter had decided to tell us this, however on other dishes he did manage our expectations better.

The dessert we had was the Rasmalai and chocolate heaven. The chocolate heaven was fantastic, great chocolate tart and crumbly pastry, exceptional milk chocolate brownie. The Rasmalai was not as good it lacked flavour.

In terms of value for money, we felt it was average and disappointing, We felt that the idea of small portions and sharing although is a novel idea doesn't really lend itself well to Indian cuisine. If one was being cynical it can be seen as being very commercial given the prices being charged £29.50 for the king prawns for example. We are happy to pay an exceptional price if the food was equally exceptional. Unfortunately we felt overall it did not. We also felt it a bit cheeky to include charitable donations as part of the bill as standard without asking permission. We appreciate the fact that it is optional and could ask the waiter to opt out of this but it really have should been the other way round, where we were allowed to opt in if we wanted to, furthermore we felt that the business should be making this donation themselves and not asking the customer to do so.

Unfortunately and I am sorry (because I am disappointed of myself for having to say this) to say that I would not recommend this restaurant to other people purely because there are other similar restaurants that offer what Amaya does but giving greater value for money.

Poor value lunch.. Lunch at Amaya was surprisingly light. Set meals in the form of platters are available & I opted for the £29 mixed grill. The menu reads attractively & the grill platter included lemon sole, chicken, venison, stuffed pepper & spinach parcel. How exciting, I thought!

So it was with some surprise & deflation that all arrived on a plate in the form of bite sized tasting morsels, albeit designed as a complete meal. I have never been inclined to write a review for any restaurant or hotel. However, I was so shocked by the poor service of this restaurant that I actually opened an urbanspoon account. It started well enough until we inform them at ordering that one if the guests have a peanut allergy. We told them that he's ok with cross contamination and just need to avoid peanut in the dish. We were informed by the server that all but a few dishes have peanut as an ingredient. We found out on exit from the manager that only 2 dishes contained peanuts. However, I forgave them for this as they are just being careful. We ordered the tasting menu and each course was dropped off with no explanation. We were so fed up that I told the waiter either to bring back a menu so that we can see what we are eating or at least name the course. Neither happened. The peanut allergic person ordered separately and sat that watching us eat 3 courses before receiving any food. He had to ask for Nan 3 times to sate his hunger before they brough any. They then dropped off his peanut free dish at the table furthest from him without annoucing it. We almost ate it by mistake. The same person also noticed one dish was missing and just wanted to ensure we are not billed for it. The waiter's response was "you are mistaken. If the dish never arrived, it's because you didn't order it!". This is the worst service I ever encountered.
