Delicious authentic Peruvian food and drinks! The pisco sour was one of the best I have had. We ordered small starter plates to share. We had the causushi, tamales, rocoto pepper, ceviche with peas and avocado and the tiradito. We had a side dish of cassava fritters with chimmichurri sauce.
Both the ceviche and tiradito were amazing in flavour. I found the fish a little tough and the pieces a little large, however my partner enjoyed it this way. I tend to prefer my ceviche soft and bitesize with the marinade coming through the flesh. It was still enjoyable. The authentic touches of the boiled white corn kernels and the crispy corn kernels was great, along with the crispy plantain chips on the side.
The tamale was great but could have done with a thicker, stronger and larger portion of huancaina sauce.
The causushi was a grower for both of us. It was a trio of flavoured mashed potato rolled into nori sheets, each topped with a different seafood. One was butterfly prawn, one was baby octopus and the third was muscle with pickled sushi ginger and shrimp. It was too big a starter for one person with all that potato and not enough seafood to be able to cut each I'm half an share. They would have done better to serve two of each in smaller pieces as a sharing plate. Each roll was served with a different mayonnaise drizzle to complement. In reality, there wasn't enough sauce to scrape from the plate so it was more for presentation. They would have done well to top with a more generous sauce portion or serve on the side.
The only thing that we regretted was ordering the rocoto. I have had stuffed pepper in Peru before. However, it was a large bell pepper and not a real rocoto pepper, even though it was called rocoto pepper. Little did we know that this little hidden gem in Islington would serve the real thing! I choked immediately on the spice of this Peruvian pepper. My other half handled ate his share, proceeded to eat mine and five minutes later started coughing when the chilli hit him. We both ordered a glass of milk to be able to finish our meal. This innocent looking red pepper is worse than a scotch bonnet! Had we been pre-warned we would not have ordered it.
All said and done, we had a good meal, the service was great, the flavours were brilliant and the portions were mostly just right for us to try a good number of dishes and fill ourselves up. Drinks were great too. We were too full to have dessert and hope to visit again soon and leave some room for the Peruvian donuts!

These days you can’t swing a cat in London without hitting a place slinging ceviche. With so many new places opening up (or popping up) in the last few years, no one was surprised when, in 2014, The Guardian declared it the newest food wave to hit London. Much like Japanese food, I love Peruvian for its focus on fresh and fantastic tasting fish. While, I’m pretty sure Peruvian food is relatively cheap in Peru,  all that ceviche in London will cost you a pretty pisco.

When you seemed to go nowhere in Essex road there is this good surprise. Tierra Peru is the place you should go if you are a fan of south american food and specially Peruvian flavours combined with fusion style and a very nice presentation. I recommend the ceviche obviously as it gives you the fish marinated and freshness flavours. But there are plenty of other options. A booking is recommended specially in busy days.

Peruvian cuisine has always enticed me, something exotic and increasingly popular whilst also drawing influence from a range of cultures. So it might sound like a surprise that Tierra Peru was actually my first venture into this exciting terrain! With influences from Europe, Asia and West Africa it is one of the most interesting fusion cuisines in the world.

Very good fresh fish and the quality of food overall was excellent. Amazing starters and sharing platters. Only qualm is the price, 32 per person for a starter, a main and a drink was slightly above expectations. Overall I would recommend the place though.

I am not sure what happened in this place, if they were lack of stuff or something, we ordered the food, and it did not arrive in one hour, not even starters. It took 30mins to serve drinks. All the stuff seemed lovely and smiley but I am sorry it is unacceptable for the food to arrive so late. We felt sorry for the stuff in the kitchen, they were sweating and seemed stressed. While writing, we still havent received the food so I cant comment about that. We hope the food is awesome so they get all these great reviews.
The food arrived, eventually was absolutely nothing special. Very hard cooked beef. The desserts were horrible. The stuff still remind nice. Very nice actually. Wish them all the best in the future!!!

So much food...in every portion, this is the opposite of Peruvian food I tried at apachamama. It's nice in a way that you can stuff your face with very good comfort food. Starters were really nice and in small portion, beautifully presented. Hence I was greedy and went for the steak grill with rice and plantain etc and couldn't finish as too much. For dessert we tried to be adventurous and go for the peppered ice cream, it was odd...

My friend wanted to be back for their all you can eat lunch deal but I'm still in a food coma from last time.

It's a small restaurant tucked away from the busy upper street.

Peruvian cuisine is hugely trendy at the moment, and this little gem of a place on Essex Road is the first time I've tried what is becoming renowned as the best of Latin American food. There's a Spanish tapas feel initially but both the differences and similarities become obvious as we indulge in as much Inca fare as we can.

Over the past few years, Peruvian cusine is finally getting the recognition it so deserved. Google “Peruvian cuisine in London” and you'll net a wide range of choices ranging from Coya and Lima to more affordable options like Señor Ceviche and Lima Flora. One name that may not immediately jump out though is Tierra Peru and I'm here to tell you why it should.

Nestled deep in Highbury Islington, Tierra Peru has been embarking on a mission to showcase the very best of Peru through the application of traditional cooking methods on local produce. I admit I hadn't heard much of Tierra Peru however it's positive reviews and high ratings on numerous platforms was enough to get me excited. Well, that and their all-you-can-eat "Buffet Criollo" every Saturday and Sunday.

Given unlimited access to the lunch buffet of traditional dishes such as slow-cooked beef stew, fish and cerviche, it provides the perfect introduction to the cuisine as you pick and choose between dishes to settle on your favourites (which you proceed to gorge on). However, the fun doesn't stop there as included in the buffet lunch is also the cooked menu where you can order items such as an amazing deep fried pork rib (an absolute must) and a skewer of chicken hearts for those more adventurous.

So in summary, a big thumbs up and worthy of checking out. You will leaving rolling and overfull on some pretty tasty food. However, eat with discipline as Tierra Peru does operate a strict wastage policy.

Went to celebrate my wife's birthday and had a wonderful and enjoyable evening. We have Peruvian relatives and have spent a lot of time travelling in Peru, so are used to authentic Peruvian food. Eating at Tierra Peru brought back many memories and the chef (who is from Peru) is outstanding. We had pre booked, the place was lively but not to noisy and the service was excellent and very amicable, particularly due to our waiter Eddy, who was extremely helpful. So if you are looking for a little gem of Peruvian cuisine, then this is the place to go! I would definitely come back.
Excellent and unique restaurant, one of the few Peruvian places in London, the food is interesting and excellent, Highly recommend,

Early evening, the place was empty but filled up comfortably as the evening wore on. A haven for local Foodies I would imagine, as well as an eatery worth travelling across London to visit. With simplistic Incan wall art and cosy seating, the staff made us feel welcome and at ease.

Choosing from the menu proved inconclusive as we all wanted to try everything, so in the end we went for two of the special platters, which was enough for five people, deceivingly so, as it seemed so little, but made us all satisfied. Pretty much everything in the menu was contained in these two dishes so it was exactly what we needed.

The most traditional and possibly best known dish from Peru, is of course, the ceviche. These are usually fish and vegetables 'cooked' in citric juices and are served cold. A lot of pulses and vegetables mixed in gave texture and flavour. My favourite meat dish was the chicaronnes de cerdo - deep-fried pork with cassava and chimmichurri sauce. Not hot at all - until the aftertaste kicked in!

Some similarities to my beloved Spanish food were the deep-fried cassava and cheese balls, reminiscent of croquettas, and much grilled seafood. Alongside this, the unfamiliar plantain, Peruvian corn, and palm hearts. The fusion of hearty traditional stews with modern unique dishes gives a whole wealth of new dishes which I will be more than happy to return to explore.

(Speaking of heart, one dish was actually heart, cooked and tasting similar to liver, definitely worth a try.)

Desserts were most unusual. Chilli ice-cream? What a paradox. But it worked. It worked well. The chocolate mousse with pisco, Peru's traditional spirit, was delicious, and the rococo pepper ice cream intensified all the dessert flavours.

We were left feeling totally satisfied, as you do when eating tiny amounts of lots of different plates. And also indulged. When I go back I know what I want more of!

Very pleasant, friendly staff set the stage for tierra Peru experience, great food to satisfy the search for something a little different in  London. The kitchen staff prepares delicious Peruvian fare with something for most palettes - Lomo saltado or the braised ribs for beefeaters, arroz con pato for poultryphiles, Tacu tacu picante de Mariscos (with spicy tiger prawns) for those preferring seafood, and beef heart anticucho for street food fanatics, were some of the dishes we tried. We liked it so much, we ate here for the buffet one day and dinner the next. If I am ever in Islington again, I will definitely return, if it is just for a glass of the delightful Inca chai tea, made with coca leaves. Highly recommend!! I wish there was one around the corner from my house, so I can eat here every day!

I must say. I have eaten in lots of places in London and this little restaurant is the best I've found. I am not a big fan of seafood. Actually, I try to avoid it. I ended up in this restaurant where most things were based on seafood. Oh my God, I thought... I ordered a Peruvian "causa" (a plate based on mashed yellow potatoes) with seafood. My friend, who happens to be Peruvian, ordered the most traditional Peruvian dish, ceviche. Now... I tried both and I was amazed. Absolute top quality. You would hardly find better food in Peru itself. Well presented, perfectly made dishes with amazing flavos and lovely decorations.
As a main course, I had pork with chicharrones accompanied by a delicious cassava and chimichurri sauce. In my opinion this is the only Peruvian restaurant where you will find all the typical Peruvian dishes, which is awesome.!
The staff is friendly and very keen to help the customer choose between dishes that may not mean too much to the average British or any other nationality customer (I am from the US btw).

Had a great evening with family and friends, despite the place being quite small, the food and atmosphere was great, what a unique flavors, amazing combinations of food and drinks. To start we share one of the platters which had 3 different types of ceviches, we had, tamalito and tequenos, just amazing, I never had the experience of trying such an exotic cuisine in London, My friends told the waiter that it was my birthday, the whole place stopped, everybody started to sing happy birthday and they brought me a mini cake, lovely touch. The manager was very nice in accommodating us, although we had a reservation for 4, we were 8 people at the end, the place looks busy and lively, I would  strongly recommend to book in advance, specially if you are a large group. Give it a go and you will know what I am saying. Great place to eat great food and spend lovely time.
I can't wait to go back, just awesome!

Completely annihilated by last night's deadly mixture of cider, white wine and red wine, I missed the days of being able to recover with seafood...and then I remembered seeing this place a few times, often lost to the sight due to the clutter of Essex Road. The owner came to check on me and when she recognized my accent when pronouncing the dishes, switched to Spanish which made the experience homey and welcoming. The ceviche was a great way to kick-start the afternoon, and sucker punch my hangover in its stupid throat. There's something about raw fish cooked in lemon that just does a body good. I found it kind of salty, but then again, Peruvian food is known for that. The ají de gallina had a fantastic, nutty texture although the difference of temperatures between the rice, chicken and potato was off-putting. Everyone I interacted with was lovely and happy to please. The only strange thing is that the place was empty. And every time I've peeked in, it's still empty. I'm not sure how they're keeping afloat. Anyway, it was a great solo lunch. Now off to a full-bellied nap. YAS.

This restaurant is located in Essex rd, a short walk from Angel station, I was in Peru so many times as I was dating a Peruvian guy, Peruvian food is amazing, and this restaurant is the only one in London that resembles the amazing food you can eat in Peru, the cebiche is to die for, the food is so authentic and the service outstanding, the restaurant is quite small so is very wise to book before you book it as it is always packed. Excellent cocktails too, This gem in Essex rd is highly recommended, via Peruvian foodie connosieur.

It is well known (at least to my friends) that I love peruvian food and all things peru. Give me a pisco sour and some ceviche and you are my friend.

My experience in this restaurant was nothing but exceptional. From the moment we walked in we were treated like close friends; our waiter was incredibly personable and when we mentioned we had visited his country he scurried away and came back with the smiling owner who we reminisced with.

The food was a mixture of highland inspired hearty food which incorporates the famous varieties of potatoes (from the home of potatoes no less) and hearty meat dishes (sometimes actual heart meat as seen in anticuchos) or coastal raw fish dishes like ceviche. The produce tasted fresh and spiced/seasoned to absolute perfection.

At the end of our meal (and jug of pisco sour) the owner treated us to a pisco tasting and made us his favourite cocktails at the small bar at the back of the restaurant.

I have never felt so welcome outside of my own home and the whole experience from the food and drink to the hospitality was perfect. P.S I am biased as I love peru!

Recommendations:
Cancha (fried corn) while you think
Pisco Sours (as many as you can tolerate)
Anticuchos (marinated spicy beef heart)
Ceviche
If you're not sure what something is; Peruvians are proud of their food and understand not everyone knows what dishes entail

*response to other reviews*
-in peru food comes out when it's ready, usually cold dishes then hot.
-the idea of a main course/starter is a western idea and the peruvians much prefer the all at once approach.
-the restaurant is small so a big group may be tricky to accommodate

I only eat chicken so can't say much about the rest, but I loved the chicken dishes on the menu. The only thing I didn't like was the font on the menu, its really tough to read. Will definitely visit Tierra Peru again. Do have the Coca Leaf Liquer, has an amazing after-taste!

With the rating I’ve awarded Tiera Peru, one can tell that I was very happy with the meal; and here are the reasons why. Firstly, there are two major areas where the restaurant has hit the proverbial nail on the head – the food and the price you pay for it. Honestly, if these two things are in place there is really nothing that can go wrong with your dining experience. Unless of course there is a horrid Live band ruining your meal with bad 90s’ covers or an altercation you have with a waitress which results in her spitting in your food. Thankfully, none of this happened at Tiera Peru and we were all happy customers at the end of our meal.

The ambience was nothing special, but comfortably small and non-pretentious. The service was attentive and helpful as well. What did stand out as mentioned before, was the food itself. Now, none of us were exactly Peruvian cuisine connoisseurs, but you needn’t always be acquainted with certain dishes to appreciate how lovely it is. The Picante De Mariscos was what appealed to me most and even though this visit is almost 2 weeks old; I still cannot get over the creamy seafood flavours. Served with steamed rice and an array of seafood selection, this should be your ordering choice if you are a patron of the sea. It was perfectly coconut scented and mildly spicy and reminded me a little of authentic Goan cuisine.

Their portion sizes are sufficient, in fact the Chifles ordered by a friend was left unfinished because of how much of it was finally served. Special mention goes out to the Tarta Rustica (Apple and Almond Tart) which was presented beautifully and tasted like a dream I had once had as a child, of living in Dessert-heaven.

Now before I get carried away and make a reservation for tonight; let’s just end it at – Do pay them a visit. Like now!

Before coming to Tierra Peru I had no real knowledge of Peruvian food and had expected it, perhaps somewhat ignorantly, to be a medley of the South American cuisines I had sampled (I was basically expecting tortilla chips, meat and condensed milk deserts.) I was mistaken, Peruvian food is not comparable to any cuisine I have tried before and I am glad I went to Tierra Peru and got, not only, to eat great food but also the chance to learn about a new cuisine.

The venue was definitely on the smaller side, although they have definitely made the most of the space, with a secret back area that had another 5 or so tables, and is decorating with Peruvian accents, giving it an authentic feel when complemented with lively Latin music they play.

I opted for the "Qinoto & Queso Halloumi Al Grijill" which was nothing I have ever had before, made up of a Quinoa base with bits of sweet corn and Asparagus and a generous serving of grilled Halloumi, cut into squares. I always enjoy Quinoa and I thought they cooked it perfectly, although its not hard to get wrong. I was more impressed with the Halloumi which was perfectly cooked and not too salty or rubbery which I find an issue with Halloumi. As a side I ordered "Chifles" or "green plantain chips" which came in a generous serving. All in all I enjoyed me meal but I definitely though the food was over priced with the mains averaging at about 15 pounds (without a side). However I suppose the uniqueness of the cuisine means they can charged a premium.

Nonetheless the food was good, the ambience relaxed and the experience was one I hadn't had before, so I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who hasn't had peruvian food and is looking to try something new!

First things first - One of the best meals I have ever had in London . I visited this restaurant for dinner today with a friend and to be honest the moment I entered the restaurant I was not blown away in particular but how that changed by the time I walked out is something you can make out by the first line of this review. This is a nice little restaurant in Islington and was decently packed when we reached, our table was reserved in advance so we had no problems finding one however if you are planning to go during peak hours finding a table could be a challenge. We started with a bottle of wine followed by main course and ended with a dessert. I had "Chaufa de Mariscos con Carne" and it was fantastic. It was literally one of those meals on your plate which you do not want to end. The rice , beef and the whole blend/taste of the dish was so fantastic that I would go any day and have it again. The dessert was a direct result of the main course as they say no meal is over without dessert. All in all we spent around 50 pounds for two people which included a bottle of wine + 2 mains + 1 Dessert and I was more than happy to spend it. This is clearly one of those restaurants which proves the fact that food is what drives the restaurant not the size of the shop.

Went to this fantastic restaurant a few hours back. The service was incredible - duck was immaculate - wine was beautiful. This place is seriously amazing and it's a refreshing change from other conventional cuisines. I honestly did not have too many expectations as it was my first time at a Peruvian restaurant but people deserve to know about this place. Will defo go back!

What a gem! Came in on a whim with no reservation on a Sunday evening, got seated immediately by the lovely manager. We had some pisco sours which were delicious. We started with ceviches which were surprisingly generous in portion and perfectly balanced in flavour, they definitely don’t skimp out on the fish! We had two mains, the chicharron and the spicy seafood stew, both were excellent and again very generous. I was really impressed by how soft the squid was. Would absolutely come back, especially for the pisco and the ceviche. It has a real authentic vibe and the staff is incredibly welcoming. Loved it!

Great Peruvian place - recommended by a native. Food is excellent - portions are big and fresh food. We got the green ceviche with avocado and jalapeño - so good we got 2. Then got the lamb. Both dishes were great! And the service was superb, such a lovely waitress.

Having been to Ceviche in Firth Street I had never actually realised that Ceviche was a delicious raw fish dish made in Peru. I got the chance to eat it here thanks to the great service offered by the staff and especially the manager. The restaurant is so vibrant. It has images of Peru and items from Peru all over. The music is just right to have a wonderful evening with friends or someone you love. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I am non alcoholic so I didn't drink the pisco sour but my brother did and he loved it. Thank you again for a wonderful night.

What a brilliant gem of a restaurant this is! We started with a delicious Pisco Sour cocktail and had for starters some “Anticuchos” - delicious skewers of chicken, then a bit of “Ceviche”, fish manirated in a delicious salad of onion and other condiments. The main course I had was the “Lomo Soldato do Carne” with beef, rice and chips. We then drank some “Chicha Morada” a juice made from purple corn. To finish we drank coca tea for a good nights sleep. The owner Cezar is a lovely host so happy to provide the tastiest Peruvian food and hospitality! 😀🙏👍

Flavourful and fresh food. A bit pricey for what you get especially as there are no expensive ingredients and their protein (meat /fish) are very small in portion. Worth a visit though. It's a small, box shape dining room, so it gets quite loud.
