There are many injustices in London’s restaurant scene (I’m still hurting after the closure of Rex and Mariano), but few things annoy me more than unworthy barbecue restaurants. The likes of Porky’s, Bodean’s and Red Dog Saloon have been opening up new branches across the city, despite serving up food that ranges from dreary to mediocre (although they could be worse – a lot worse). There is some justice in this world though – Texas Joe’s, Dragon’s Den veteran and purveyor of beef jerky, has finally settled down in a restaurant a short walk from London Bridge station behind the Guy’s Hospital complex.
Quite easily top 5 BBQ spots in London for me. The brisket was absolutely delicious, was really tender and flavourful. The chicken wings was the second best thing on the menu for me, the meat inside the wing were really juicy, and it had amazing spicy flavours (dry rub)
The pork and lamb dishes were also very good but I'll probably only get a brisket and wings as I loved those the most.
The bacon wrapped jalapeno was an excellent starter, you only get three per plate so order more if you got a large table.
Don't forget to order a Michelada, it's like a spicy bloody Mary. It paired really well with the food.
I would 100% come back here for more and try out some of the whiskey's next time.
Really great quality meat and all food was delicious. The portion of the bbq could be slightly larger or cheaper though. The grapefruit margarita was very tasty and with a bit of a kick. The other drink not memorable. Friendly staff and nice to sit outside on a good day!
I reserved for a lunch after hearing a recommendation on Off Menu.
It's a simple menu and the food is well priced, well portioned and tastes incredible.
The service was great, attentive and engaging.
I had the pork rib, Mac and Cheese and chips, and couldn't finish it because I ordered too much.
I will go again next time I'm in London. Amazing.
Meat that melts in your mouth. I was skeptical about the pork at first, but it was not dry at all. Beef short ribs were my favourite. Potatoes were also nice, but nothing special. Friendly staff, 12.5% service charge included in your bill. Expect to pay more than £25 per person on average when dining here. Toilets (female) were quite outdated and could use lighting that works as well as the ceiling needs to be painted.
Nicely tucked away, few min walk from London Bridge, it offers sanctuary, away from the busyness of the streets of London.
I visited for lunch on Friday and it was quiet. With seating available outside, the atmosphere of the place really gives you good vibes on a nice sunny day, inside, could feel a little crowded and claustrophobic though.
I was looking forward to trying the food here and did not disappoint.
I ordered the BBQ Smoked Brisket and the mac and cheese (side?).
The brisket was tender and packed full of flavour. Nice gentle smoke ring and good bark.
The mac and cheese was creamy, but in my opinion it lacked a little seasoning. The pickled vegetables (coleslaw) were good and provided some much-needed acidity with the richness of the brisket.
Service was good.
Pricewise, it is on the expensive side. I know that good brisket is not cheap, but two slices of brisket just over £22, not sure if the portion is big enough to fill you up. The side definitely helped.
In general, a good overall experience, with really tasty food.
We got in touch with the restaurant as there was 10 of us. Great communication. We had to do a preorder so the restaurant wouldn't be running short of anything. The food is truly impressive.simple recipes but smoked to perfection. I had the very impressive short rib and tried some wings and brisket and wow.. very good BBQ! A good price for stellar food in a great location. I'm definitely returning soon!
Really great brisket, and the slaw was good too (I believe it has fennel in so be careful if you're not a fan). I initially wanted the short rib but it wasn't ready for another hour so worth calling ahead to find out when it's available.
Spicey Mac 'n cheese tasted good but wasn't super cheesy/gooey as you might expect, and I think needed a pinch more salt, but perhaps that's just my taste.
Guest tap beer was Kernel which is a great choice, and reasonably priced at £6.20.
Visited 1pm Friday - no need to book.
We got one pork rib and one beef rib and they were both perfectly fall apart tender and smokey. The side dishes were comforting - we tried the chilli Mac and the special devils eggs.
Reservations are important here! We only got an hour and a half with our table but it was enough to eat our fill and chat
OMG! It's one of the best slow cooked, smoked BBQ I've ever had. A proper texas smoked BBQ. Go for the meat selection and make a platter. I highly recommend this place and definitely I'll go again and again
The food and service were excellent. We each had different meats and everyone enjoyed their meal. Unfortunately we were sat in bit next to the bar area (not the main restaurant) and we all found it a bit chilly and the food got cold quite quickly. Next time we’d ask to sit in the main restaurant. Everything else was really good though. They have excellent beer and a very large bourbon selection.
