Really enjoyed this place. Great food, great wine and really cool, after work, atmosphere.
I had to order the chop, since it's what this place is named after. And I have to say, I am not sure what kinda lamb they got the chop from but it was huge! And tasty đ the pie on the other hand looked and tasted a little unorthodox.
Service was a little slow, but with the wine flowing, and atmosphere pumping, it didn't really matter.
A surprise date night brought me to the first dates restaurant.
The maĂźtre de was lovely and very helpful showing us to our table however the table they had seated us at was small and between two very close neighbours. After asking to move, we were told there were no other tables (the restaurant was a third full at most) I took matters into my own hands and found a spare table we liked. After 10 minutes, we were sat there (with many grumpy faces from the staff)
Once sat at a better table, we ordered our food. We had some of their bread and butter and it was yummy. The bread still warm and the butter just slightly salted.
As a main we both had bavette steak and chips with peppercorn sauce. The steak was perfectly cooked, the chips lovely and crispy and the sauce, peppery and full of flavour. The portion size was perfect and I could not eat another bite.
The meal was slightly pricey but the atmosphere was lovely and we enjoyed our final drinks outside, under the blanket looking at St. Paul's. It was magical.
The food was good, a really lovely steak but it can't make up for the service. The staff (apart from the lady at the front of house) were rude, slow and didn't seem to care at all.
A shame as the rest of the meal was wonderful.
Food EXCELLENT
Ambiance - fabulousÂ
Location - Wonderful
Waiting Satff - Polite enoughÂ
Front of house - A lady in particular was utterly disappointing , clearly neglected and didn't make any time to make us feel welcome or valued.
The prices are such that the least you would expect is a prompt response and service when you ask politely . She was an utter farce and Ruined my meal i was that angry .
I visited for a second time with some friends after work.
We had the chapel down sparkling which was delicious and for bar food I had the short rib beef fritters which were delicious and my friends all had the pork crackling which they enjoyed.
The staff and particularly the manager Sam could not have been more helpful.
Now cannot wait to return for dinner.
On Friday night, Ceri and I decided to go for a spontaneous dinner. Weâve been trying out some of the restaurants around the St Paulâs area and this time, we tried Paternoster Chop House. For those of you who have been watching Channel 4âs hilariously entertaining âFirst Datesâ, youâll know all about this place.
Came here for lunch after visiting st paul's chathedral. We were promptly seated and given the menu, mainly serving Sunday roast. We started off with traditional Scotch egg, half pint prawns & ox cheek served with Yorkshire pudding. These were all well cooked and tasty, presented on a sharing platter. The prswns, cooked cocktail style were succulent and fresh and deserves special mention. We ordered pork & beef roast with an additional monkfish to share for mains. The roast were great especially the mouth melting pork belly. However I found the crackling to be under-crispy and quite salty. The beef was well cooked, pink in the middle and tender. Couldn't really comment on the monkfish, as it wasn't one of my favourites. We also shared a bottle of fabulous rose from Italy which suited the sunny weather that day. The service was good but falls short of excellent. They weren't as attentive as I like, missing out on filling our wine glasses occasionally. The lady who I presumed was the manager was also under my expectation. We waived for her to order our meals which she acknowledged but rather than coming to pick it up herself, handballed it to a busy waiter nearby which took a couple of minutes before getting back at us. Overall though, it was a satisfying meal but I do hope that they would be able to improve their service standards, given the premium prices we paid.
A really tasty steak. Not cheap but worth the money. Fish cake starter was a little dry, but purely being picky. Some good wine. Attentive service too
The style is a cross between a restaurant and a pub. The bar is at the door, city workers standing drinking, and behind there is a large, simple room. Tables and chairs are plain and comfortable, table setting simple but elegant.
Great place to have few drinks after work. We go there quite frequently. A bit expensive if you are planning to have lunch/ dinner. Food was average, but little choices for vegetarian people. Service was really good.
More recommended for business meals!!
We were on a leaving dinner for a work friend paid by the company. The food is excellent but it is very central London pricing (ÂŁ18burger, ÂŁ30 steak) designed for expense accounts. Not a ton of vegetarian options as this place is about meat meat and meat. The place was almost empty so service was quick and efficient but therefore there wasn't really an atmosphere. The design is quite distinctive and there's even a cocktail bar so assume it could be better on a Friday night.
It was a good meal, but I wouldnât say it justified the price. I ordered my fillet medium rare and it arrived medium, it wasnât the most flavoursome piece of meat either. The mushrooms and potatoes were nice but nothing special. Definitely not bad, the interior is very nice and the service is friendly, but I think there are better value for money steaks in London
Went to Chophouse on Saturday 4th Nov.
Table for 5 we had the lamp chops, bacon cheese burger and mini burgers they were all amazing. The food was good to perfection. The medium lamb chops were divine.
The service and food were amazing really recommend a visit !!!!!
I was surprised how quiet the restaurant was for a Saturday night, but I don't mind quiet! The staff were friendly and the food was excellent - The starter menu is a bit odd so we went straight to the main and then just had sorbet for desert. I remember when this restaurant was based right next to St. Pauls, it's not as busy or as good as it was then, but still worth a visit.
Amazing food , service and venue. Chop house is not only meet but also fish.
From starters to dessert we enjoyed every single bite. You can feel the chef creativity from the plate decoration and understand the chef passion from the food flavour. Fresh and new. Absolutely recommend
Very friendly staff and great tasting food. I would recommend having the octopus as a starter along with the fresh bread. Both are super tasty.
Great Restaurant
A lovely restaurant at the bottom of the Old Bailey, you feel the history as you walk down.
A warm greeting from awaited us from the Floor Supervisor Alice who took us to a well stocked bar before we sat at our table.
I loved the feel of the actual menu, it felt like cowhide which added to the ambience of being in a chop house.
Our table waiter for food was Alejandro who was very friendly, and after taking our order and asking about allergies, finished with "no further questions"....given the proximity to the Old Bailey I found quite humorous!
We had the sourdough bread, rarebit soldiers, hot salt beef brisket sandwich and the burger, with fries. Great meal, well cooked in the open kitchen (spotlessly clean) by Wesley. Now I am not sure just how excited you can get with fries, just they were delicious.....Like eating crispy air!
Our drinks waiter, Yannick, was very attentive and knowledgeable and kept a steady flow of great cocktails.
The evening finished with an introduction to the GM, Red. Friendly and engaging and willing to spend time with Customers, always a winner with me.
The price point was good, with an option to upgrade if you feel to do so.
We will definitely return and would not hesitate to recommend......Thank you Team PCH :)
Very tasty shared lunch for a group of meat lovers, not cheap but fortunately I wasn't paying!
Gorgeous food and amazing staff. There for my husbandâs 50th. Couldnât fault anything at all. Canât wait to go back.
Very delicious food, very attentive service and great location. This is where they film the uk TV program "First Date". Also the location is perfect if you are visiting St Paul's cathedral. We've ordered the set menu 3 course for ÂŁ30 (ÂŁ20 with eat out help out). Lamb shank was so moist, almost melt in your mouth. Chips was really nice and crispy, I think it was triple cooked. We've ordered the vegan chocolate and coconut mousse that was recommended by the waitress and it was amazing!
I've also had steak and burgers there before and they were also lovely.

Special day out .Went here for my birthday as i had seen this restaurant on tv .
Booked a tablet had to wait to be seated. Food was plentiful i had roasted lamb dinner very nice but could of had bit more seasoning.
Staff very helpful smartly dresses and patient. .
Restaurant was quite busy .
Children menu available. And vegan food.
We had a lovely evening.
Really Nice Sunday Lunch!
I took my wife hear as part of her birthday treat.
Obviously she is a fan of the TV show but more importantly than that we are both fans of spending our money on experiences and the experience here was fantastic.
We arrived 45 minutes early but they were more than happy to accept us. They took care of our coats and happily showed us to our table.
One of the best things about this place was the staffâs knowledge of the menu and wine list, we travel and eat out a lot and there is nothing more frustrating than when the waiter just wants you to buy the most expensive thing on the menu. â This was definitely not the case here.
We wasnât hugely hungry so we skipped starters and had some bread and olives for the table, fish & chips and Sunday Roast Lamb both were very tasty and we didnât really have room for puddingâŠ. so we shared a sticky toffee pudding and that was also lovely.
With the drinks and tip it came to £75⊠not cheap but this is central London and it was lovely so worth it.
Top Tip! This restaurant is often fully booked when other restaurants in the chain have availability, based on the experience here Iâd happily visit one of the others in the future.
I had a nice business lunch here. The steak was tasty but a tad on the too well done side. The spinach were a bit bland.
So overall ok but not the best steak ever.
New location and slightly different menu. The food is still amazing and the staff could not do enough for us.
It was our wedding anniversary and they gave us a complimentary glass of bubbly and brought out a free dessert with Happy anniversary on it.
Will definitely be coming back.
Thank you
Came here for a birthday meal with my partner. The service and food were exceptional.
We booked for 7pm, and were seated quickly. The menu was brilliant and had lots of choices. However, the only downside I could possibly see was that the selection of meat on the blackboard had already sold pretty quickly by 7pm (for example, they only had one Chateaubriand which had already been sold, two Picanha - we had the last one, and their daily âmarket specialâ had sold out). So Iâd advise either booking early or ordering ahead if possible!
The staff couldnât do enough to assist and provide excellent service, and were able to talk through options on the menu and provide recommendations which is always good to see.
We will definitely be back! Thank you for a wonderful meal.
